"Mom!" Buffy shouted as she, Angel, and Faith made their way through the crowded bar. Buffy jumped up and down a few times, trying to spot Brooke, Spike, or even her mom.
"Buffy! Over here!" Spike shouted, waving his arms. Buffy pushed through people, trying to get to her mom.
"Mom..."Buffy began, grabbing Joyce by the shoulders.
"No! You stupid whore! I know what you're going to say. I'm taking you home. That's what you'll say. NO! This is all your fault. I never wanted you! Your father left because of you! I should have killed you when I had the chance!" Joyce screamed, violently slapping Buffy. Buffy stood back, her jwa clenched and a hardness in her eyes that few people had ever seen.
"Call the cops. She can sober up in jail," buffy said, trying not to take the things Joyce had said to heart.
"Buffy?" Spike asked, coming up next to her. He placed a gentle hand on her shoulder and kissed her cheek.
"Get off me Spike. I'm fine," Buffy snapped, not wanting Angel to see Spike kissing her, even if it was just her cheek.
"Angel? Well, well. Never thought I'd see you here," Spike growled, his eyes narrowing.
"Spike. I came with Buffy. Gave her a ride," Angel shrugged. The two men started to stare each other down.
"Angel, you can go home if you want," Buffy suggested, giving Angel an out and hoping he wouldn't take it.
"No, I'll stay. Actually, you wanna get outta here?" Angel asked, taking her hand.
"Sure. Spike? Take care of my mom?" Buffy asked, her eyes softening.
"Always. Be careful Buffy," Spike warned, glaring at Angel.
"Always. Fiath, I'll call you tomorrow," Buffy promised.
"You better."

Angel drove Buffy to the docks. The whole ride htey were silent, Buffy hoping that he wasn't wigging about her mom, and Angel falling for her even more.
"Here we are," Angel said wuietly, opening the door for her and helping her out of his car.
"The docks?" Buffy asked, raising her eyebrows.
"Yeah. I love to sit here at night and watch the sun rise, listen to the water, that kind of thing." Angel shrugged. He led Buffy to the end of a peir and they sat down, Buffy leaning against Angel, his arms wrapped around her.
"So, how do you know Spike?" Buffy asked, watching the waves.
"We went to high school together," Angel explained.
"You two don't seem to like each other much," Buffy observed.
"Eh, we hung with different crowds. I dated his ex for a while. That pissed him off." Angel said.
"Wait, you're the one who stole Dru?" Buffy exclaimed, sitting up in surprise.
"Yeah, sadly." Angel said, not metting her gaze.
"Angel, that's a good thing. I hated Dru. She was insane," Buffy said, smiling.
"Still is. We broke up nearly two years ago. Didn't date for long," Angel said.
"Good. Now I can have you all to myself." Buffy said. She snuggled back down against Angel's chest.
"Buffy, I'm sorry for the things that your mother said to you," Angel apologized.
"Don't be. I've heard it all before. She was drunk. it's not a big deal." Buffy said, trying to convince herself.
"It is a big deal. I'm just sorry you have to deal with it alone."
"It's nothing new. She's been a drunk since before I can remember. My dad left before I was even born, she lost her job, and she started drinking. Now, she's a cashier at the grocery store, when she shows up," Buffy explained, not really wanting to dump her life story on Angel quite yet.
"I'm still sorry." Angel said, burying his face in her neck.
"Thanks, Angel. For everything you did tonight," Buffy whispered.
"Don't mention it. Watch the sun rise with me?" Angel asked.
"Definently." Buffy turned her head to look at Angel. He leaned forward and capturred her lips in the slowest, sweetest kiss Buffy had ever experienced.
"I'm falling for you, Angel," Buffy sighed when they broke the kiss.
"I'm already fallen." Angel kissed her again, this time with a little more passion. Buffy let herself melt into his arms, feeling truly safe for the first time that she could remember. The world fell away and all that was left was them.
