Buffy grabbed the nearest bus tray and started cleaning off the table. She grabbed the small tip and stuffed it in her apron pocket before wiping down the top.
"Buffy! Phone call!" Mel, Buffy's boss called from behiind the cash register. The petite blond shook a few loose strands of hair from her face and ran over.
"Thanks Mel," Buffy smiled, taking the phone.
"Buffy, I adore you. You're the best damn waitress I got, but if you can't keep your personal shit outta here...," Mel warned, raising his eyebrows. Buffy groaned, knowing now who was on the other end.
"Sorry Mel! It's the last time, I promise," Buffy apologized.
"It better be." Mel planted a quick kiss on Buffy's forehead before going back to work.
"Brooke?" Buffy asked. Brooke was a bartender at Guenchy, a small dive on the edge of town.
"Hey babe. I think you should come pick your ma up. She's already pretty drunk," Brooke sighed, popping her gum. Buffy could imagine the leggy brunette in a mini skirt and half top, her naval ring glinting in the dim lights.
"Brooke, I've still got an hour left on my shift. Can't she sober up in the back room?" Buffy pleaded. Mel would get angry if she left early.
"Hon, you know I can't do that," Brooke said. Buffy heard glass break and people started to yell.
"Brooke...," Buffy whined.
"Buf, I gotta go. Just get here." Brooke hung up the phone and Buffy clenched her fists.
"Anya?" Buffy called, running over to her fellow waitress.
"Yeah?" Anya asked, looking up from counting her tips.
"Can you cover for me? Please?" Buffy begged.
"I guess. Next time, lock your mom in a box.," Anya replied, smiling. Buffy giggled as she took off her apron and grabbed her jacket.
"Thanks An," Buffy sang out.
"Hey Buffy? You'll be 18 in a month. What do you want?" Anya grinned mischiviously. A pained look crossed Buffy's face.
"I want to go to college," Buffy sighed. She smiled sadly at Anya and hurried towards the bar.
