A Book and its Cover.

"And here is your class list Miss Summers." Principal Snyder told her.
"Th...thankyou sir." Buffy stuttered.
Snyder smirked. "Now hurry up. You don't want to be late for class on your
first day." He shooed her off out of his office.
"Yes sir." Buffy said meekly, stumbling out of the office.and straight into
the most gorgeous looking guy she had ever laid eyes on!
"S.sorry. I w..wasn't looking where I was g.going." She stuttered, picking
up her books.
"That's ok luv. Just be careful, there are some people in this school who
won't be as nice to a new girl who bumps into them." The guy said. "I'm
Spike. If anyone gives you a hard time, tell me 'bout it ok?" Spike looked
at his watch. "Shit. I'm late for a meeting with Snyder. Good luck..err...?"
"B.buffy. My name is Buffy." She managed to choke out.
Spike smiled. "See you around then.Buffy." He said before loping off into
Snyder's office.
Buffy sighed. She was in love.

Later that day, after getting lost 3 times, and sitting on her own at lunch,
Buffy made her way to gym class. On the way, she stopped by the notice
board.
To her shock and delight, she saw something that she was exceptionally good
at! She decided to talk to Coach Miles about it later on. If she ever found
her way to the gym that is!!!!

After a disastrous attempt at volleyball, Buffy spoke to Coach Miles.
"I want to try out for the girls school kickboxing team." She said
seriously.
Coach Miles smiled gently at the new girl. "You know that this is a state
league program, and it's not for beginners?" he warned her.
"I know." She assured him.
"Ok then. What's your full name please?"
"Elizabeth Anne Summers." She told him her real name, not the name that she
went by. Elizabeth was so annoyingly long.
Coach Miles looked as if he had had a heart attack. "You mean 'the'
Elizabeth Summers? The state school champion of 3 years running?"
"Yes. But could you please not tell anyone that? I kind of went through a
bad patch in my life and I made a really bad mistake and lost my title. So I
want to enter under Buffy, not Elizabeth as it says on the roll. Is that
ok?" Buffy asked nervously.
Coach Miles smiled warmly. "Of course it is Buffy. The competition is the
day after tomorrow, so you're lucky, today is that last day for entry."
"Do many students come to watch?" Buffy asked curiously.
"Do they ever! We get more students going to this than we do football and
basketball games." Coach Miles said gleefully.
Buffy's smiled faltered a little. But other wise she didn't let Coach Miles
see that she was nervous.
"Ok, now you have your own uniform I'm guessing, so here's your entry
number, we only have 4 people entered this year, two in the junior division
and now 2 in the senior state champ division." Coach Miles told her as Buffy
grabbed her things as the bell rang.
"Oh and Miss Summers!"
"Yes Coach Miles?"
"Good luck!" he called out.
Buffy smiled and waved before heading out to find her mom, who was picking
her up today.

Next Day.
"Do you see that new girl? I heard that she was gay!"
"Nu-uh. I heard that she has a huge crush on Spike." Another girl whispered
as Buffy walked past.
Not looking where she was going, Buffy walked straight into someone else!
But this time, it wasn't Spike, and they weren't very nice at all.
"Why don't you watch where you're going freak!! God, what is your drama!
These are $600 dollar Prada shoes!" the girl snapped at Buffy.
"I'm sorry! I w.wasn't looking where I w.was going. I.I'm new here and."
"I know that you're new here stupid! Everyone knows that!" the girl snarled.
"Harm, honey, you gotta calm down! Your gonna have wrinkles if you don't."
came a voice with a heavy British accent.
It was Spike!!!
Harmony turned her nose up at Spike. "I don't care what you think anymore
Spikey. Ever since you did what you did, you're nothing but a loser like the
rest of these..."
"Losers?" Spike supplied.
"Yeah!" Harmony said.
Buffy stood up from where she had been sitting. "Your lipsticks smudged."
She said calmly and without stuttering as she grabbed her bag and walk off
slowly.
Harmony on the other hand, screeched and ran off in the direction of the
girl's bathroom.
Spike just stared after Buffy. "What a girl!" he said quietly to himself
before heading off to practice.

First Day of the Championship..

"Buffy! You're just in time to meet the rest of the team!" Coach Miles said
breathlessly.
"Sorry, mom wanted to make sure that she had enough film. And she decided
that 7 rolls weren't enough." Buffy told him as they headed to their schools
little waiting room.
Coach Miles opened the door and ushered her inside.
"Team! I'd like you to meet Buffy Summers. She's going to be in the senior
state champ division." Coach Miles introduced. "Buffy, this is Jasmine and
Andrew, they're in the junior division. And this" he said proudly "Is
Spike!"
"Buffy?
"Yeah. Hi. Uhh, hey thanks for what you did yesterday and all. The thing
with Harmony." She added when she saw the slightly confused look on his
face.
"Oh. That was nothing that you couldn't have done luv. Besides, you took
care of Harm quite well." Spike smirked at the memory of Harmony's screech
and her running off to make sure her lipstick was straight. "Never pictured
you as the kind of girl to do this though luv. You seemed kinda. I dunno,
lost and small whenever I see you." Spike told her as Buffy quickly put on
her uniform over the top of her tights and sports top.
""I've been doing this since I was about 5 years old. My dad and mom used to
do it for exercise, so naturally, I wanted to do it. I ended up loving it so
much that after my mom and dad got divorced, Mom finally hired a personal
trainer for me. Dad thought that it wasn't a sport for a young lady, so he
wouldn't let me go any further than what I had already gotten to. Then I
started getting my school into it, and Mom and I moved houses, and I ended
up here. I just thought I'd give it a go again. You know, see if I've
forgotten anything." She told him as she pulled her hair back and made sure
that the bun was tight and secure.
"Well, I think your going to have your work cut out for you." Spike told her
as they started doing a few warm up stretches with Jasmine and Andrew.
"Why's that?" Buffy asked, stretching her hamstring.
"Glory." Jasmine said quietly.
"What do you mean? You mean Glorificus?"
"Is that her real name?" Andrew asked.
"Yeah. She took my. ahh a girl at my schools title last year." Buffy said,
hoping her slip wasn't that obvious.
"You mean state school champion?" Spike asked. As they all headed out to the
ring to see who they would be fighting first.
"Yeah. That was her." Buffy said.
They saw Coach Miles waving them over. "Ok. Here's the deal. Jasmine, you
shouldn't have any trouble until about the 4th round, where you'll have to
face Greta Hans."
Jasmine's face paled slightly.
"She put someone in the hospital last year." Spike told Buffy quietly.
Buffy nodded. Silently wishing Jasmine the best of luck.
"Andrew. You'll have a tough first round against Moluch the corruptor."
"Moluch the corruptor?" Buffy asked.
"He lies, he cheats he steals. He corrupts everything he touches." Jasmine
said, colour returning to her face.
"Spike, you don't have anything to worry about until the final round, where
you'll be facing Adam, well that's my guess."
Spike nodded.
"Spike lost against him last year. It was pretty bad. See that scar on his
eyebrow? Adam did that to him." Andrew whispered to Buffy.
Coach Miles turned to Buffy. "You've got it easy as well, until the final
match. Where I'm guessing you'll be facing Glory." He told her.
"No problem. That bitch is going to hell." Buffy said calmly before walking
off to find her mother.
The rest of the group stared as Spike jogged off after her.
"Where the bloody hell did that come from luv?" he asked her.
"As I said Spike. I will not let her win. I want the title back.err I mean.
I want to win my friends title for her." She quickly corrected her mistake.
Spike seemed suspicious, but he didn't say anything.
"Spike. This is my Mom. Joyce. Mom, this is Spike. He's also entered." Buffy
introduced.
"Oh, honey that's great! You made a friend who enjoys this as much as you
do! Come on, I want some pictures." Joyce said excitedly as she whipped her
camera out and started snapping photos of Buffy and Spike.
"Mom! Save you film! We gotta go. I'll see you later ok?" Buffy kissed her
mothers cheek.
"It was very nice to meet you Mrs. Summers." Spike said.
"Please, call me Joyce. Mrs. Summers is my mother." Joyce told him.
"Joyce." Spike smiled. And followed Buffy back to the ring.
As they reached it the commentator spoke.
"Ladies and Gentlemen! Welcome to another fantastic year of State School
Kickboxing Championships! I'm Brad Best, welcoming back all you regulars and
saying a big Wahoo welcome to all you new folks as well! Today proves to be
a fantastic day as the California Indians try out for both the male and
female state champion positions. But standing in their way are our current
champions, 4 times state school champion Adam Walsh, from the relatively
unknown School of Initiative. And Miss Glorificus 'Glory' Helgod. Who won
last year after the current champion, Miss Elizabeth Summers, suddenly
pulled out!!! Well folks, it looks like today and tomorrow is going to be
very exciting, so strap your selves in and away we go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" the
announcer called.
And the games began.

Andrew was the first to fall. His first round match against Moluch the
corruptor ended almost as soon as it began. Moluch was brutal and poor
Andrew was knocked unconscious in the first minute!
He woke up just in time to see Jasmine fail in her 4th round match against
Greta Hans, who came from the same school as Moluch. Jasmine threw in the
towel after Greta broke her nose. It also seemed that she had broken several
of Jasmines ribs as well.
"Oh well. Maybe next year." Jasmine said as Buffy said how she did a great
job. "Now it's up to you and Spike."
Buffy's first round was against a girl called Anyanka. She was a very
strange girl.
A few minutes before the match, Anyanka came over to where Buffy, Spike,
Andrew, Jasmine and Coach Miles were sitting, discussing strategies for
Buffy's first fight.
"Hi! I'm Anyanka. But you can call me Anya. Your Buffy right? It's very nice
to meet you. Good luck in the match but I'm afraid that I'm going to win as
I like money very much and if I win my parents are giving me a lot of money
so I'm afraid that you're going to lose. Bye and I'll se you in the ring!"
she said cheerfully as she skipped off back to her coach.
Nobody spoke.
"Does she even need to breathe?" Andrew asked.

It turned out that Anya wasn't very hard to beat.
Neither Buffy nor Spike lost a match that day. So that meant that they were
in the following days Grand Final!!!
"I'm so happy for you!" Jasmine said, sitting in her seat at lunch time.
Jasmine, Buffy and Andrew had come to the gym to sit because they didn't
want to talk to anyone else.
"Spike said that your just lucky Buffy, but I don't think so." Andrew told
her shyly.
Buffy smiled. "Thanks Andrew. Spike doesn't know his ass from his head as
far as I'm concerned."
"Is that a fact luv? Care to prove it to me then?" came the voice of Spike
from across the gym.
Buffy, Andrew and Jasmine looked to see what he wanted, and saw that about
half the school had come with him!!!
"What do you want Spike?" Buffy asked, coming down the steps and off the
bleachers and onto the gym floor.
"A little practice fight. How about it Summers? You think that you're good
enough?" Spike asked, a touch of a sneer creeping into his voice.
Which Buffy noticed straight away. "Ok. You're on bleach boy." She said
calmly.

She and Spike quickly changed into their uniforms. When Buffy came out of
the girl's locker room, she saw that nearly the entire school had come to
watch, including nearly the entire teaching staff!
"Ready to get your ass kicked Summers?"
"In your dreams Blondiebear!" Buffy scoffed, as she made her way to the mats
that had been set down for them.
"Ready. Fight!" came the voice of Andrew.
Both Buffy and Spike launched themselves at each other. The fight was on.

Nobody spoke. Nobody 'could' speak. The blonde pair were amazing, neither
holding back, but neither going all out either. Both were keeping something
for that afternoon. For the grand final.
Suddenly, Buffy landed an amazing flying back spinning heel kick, straight
into Spike's chest.
Spike went down on the mat and stayed there. There was a roar of applause
for the crowd.
Buffy walked over to Spike and lent forwards, offering him her hand.
Spike reached up to take it, and saw that her necklace had fallen out of her
uniform. He looked more closely and saw that it read 'Slayer'.
Buffy looked a bit confused when Spike stood up, refusing her hand. He
turned to face the crowd, who had gone silent.

"Students of this school! Let me introduce to you, someone who has lied to
you all! This isn't Miss 'Buffy' Summers. This is Elizabeth 'The Slayer'
Summers, 3 times state school champion of Hemry High school in Los Angeles!"
Spike yelled.
No-one spoke.
"You're lying Spike! There's no way that could be Buffy." Andrew yelled.
"No he isn't." Buffy said.
Everyone stared at her.
"Buffy, why didn't you tell us?" Jasmine asked, clearly hurt.
"Because it wasn't your business to know. When I left Hemry, I left because
of family matters. My father wanted me to live with him instead of my Mom. I
agreed to stay with him for a while. During that time I 'supposedly' fell
down a set of stairs and broke my leg and collarbone, and fracture 8 ribs.
He also pulled me out of my training sessions with my trainer, Merrick
Watcher. Needless to say, I went back to living with my Mom. We moved here
from LA, and I don't give a shit about Hemry anymore. Yes, my name in the
kickboxing ring 'is' "The Slayer". But I'm not a monster. I fight fair,
and..... I plan on winning my title back from that snobby face cow Glory!"
The entire gym shook with the applause and clapping and foot-stomping that
occurred. Even Spike was clapping!
"Well luv, guess I underestimated you. Seems to me that you're the best
there is. I gladly relinquish my title of Indian Chief, to you." Spike said.
Buffy laughed. "How about you keep your title. And instead I become the
first of a long line of 'Girl' chiefs. How does that sound blondie?"
Spike laughed. "Sounds perfect luv." He said before he kissed her.
The wolf whistles where broken up by Snyder entering the gym. "What the hell
is going on here! Classes began 10 minutes ago! Everyone to your classes,
unless your in the grand final. So that means everyone except Miss Summers
and Mr. Giles!" Snyder snapped.
Everyone moved faster than Buffy had ever seen.

"Don't worry bout it Spike. You'll do fine!" Buffy encouraged.
Spike was about to step into the ring and face Adam Walsh.
"I know. But promise me one thing?"
"Sure?" What is it?"
"When I die in there, make sure I get a black coffin, not a bloody pansy
assed white one!" he joked.
Buffy thumped him gently on the arm. "You'll do fine." She promised, giving
him a big kiss before he had to go into the ring. "Goodluck baby." she whispered as he walked into the ring.

Buffy was almost in tears. Spike was winning, but at a huge cost. He was taking too many risks. Adam seemed to be getting stronger with every round. Spike wouldn't be able to hold out much longer.

Then Buffy heard "Let's hear it for Spike! Let's hear it for our chief Indian!" hollered from the stands.
It was Andrew.
No-one had been cheering, fearing to disrupt or break the attention of the fighters from the match.
"Let's hear it for Spike! Spike! Spike! Spike! Spike! Spike!"

Then the chanting became infectious. "Spike! Spike! Spike! Spike! Spike! Spike! Spike! Spike! Spike! Spike! Spike! Spike!Spike! Spike! Spike! Spike! Spike! Spike!" On and on it went.
And it seemed that Spike was benefiting from it. His punches became stronger, his kicks regained their power, and his blocks got quicker. It had an opposite effect on Adam though. He was starting to faulter. Then Spike moved in and used the same move that Buffy had used to drop him in the gym.

Adam went down hard. And stayed down.

"Ladies and Gentlemen!!! Your new State School Champion, of the California Indians, Mr. William 'Spike' Giles!" boomed the announcer.

Spike leaneed out of the ring and shook Adam's trainers hand.
"He fights bloody well mate." Spike said truthfully.
"He may fight well, but you're a heck of a lot better son. Congratulations. And I think you'd better go see a certain little lady who has been biting her lip since you walked into the ring." the trainer said, nodding at Buffy.
Spike laughed and waled over to her, wincing a little as his bruised ribs stretched.
"hey luv. What do you think? Did I do that kick right?" he asked.
Buffy laughed and flung herself into his arms. "You had me worried for so long." she admitted, hugging him back.

"Now it's your turn goldielocks." he said, watching as Glory did a few quick warm up exercises, sneering at Buffy when she saw them looking her way.
"Kick her skanky ass love." Spike said fiercly, before giving her a world ending kiss.
Buffy pulled away, needing air. "Now. Time to get 'my' title back from the bitch from hell." she said confidently, striding into the ring.
There was silence but before the announcer could say anything, Andrew spoke up again! "Indians and other spectators, it gives me the greatest pleasure of introducing to you, the-one-the-only... Miss. Elizath 'The Slayer' Summers! But to us, she'll always be....Buffy. Buffy! Buffy! Buffy!" the chanting started up again.
"Buffy! Buffy! Buffy! Buffy! Buffy! Buffy! Buffy! Buffy! Buffy! Buffy! Buffy! Buffy! Buffy! Buffy! Buffy!"
"So. You think you're gonna win your title back? I don't think so honey. I won this title fair and square. If you want it, your gonna have to kill me for it." Glory sneered as she and Buffy shook hands.

"Watch and learn bitch." Buffy smirked, shocking Glory, before moving to her spot in the ring.
Both fighters waited. Then "Ready! Fight!"
And the match from hell was on.

Spike was sure his lower lip was bleeding. He had had it between his teeth for nearly the entire match.
"Come on Buffy luv! Show her that you're the REAL champ!" he yelled, his voice echoing in the silence.
The chanting began again. " Buffy! Buffy! Buffy! Buffy! Buffy! Buffy! Buffy! Buffy! Buffy Buffy! Buffy! Buffy! Buffy! Buffy! Buffy!"
Then Bufy caught a nasty right hook in the face. She went down.
"Buffy!"
She stood up, and lifted her head back. Her mouthguard now lay useless on the ground, she had bitten right through it and there was blood everywhere. Then the buzzer sounded.
"Woohoo! i haven't seen a match like this before folks! The score is tied and with only one round left, who will walk away the winner? And who will walk away the losser? Only time will tell." the announcer boomed.
Buffy grabbed her spare mouth guard, and instead of waiting for the buzzer to sound, she walked right back into the ring.
"Summers! Get back here!" Coach Miles yelled.
But Buffy stayed where she was. Glory smirked and walked back to her place too.
"I want to finish this NOW!" Buffy said cooly. "How about you Glor?"
"Find with me blondie."
The timer went off and Buffy launched herself at Glory with tremendous speed and let loose a flurry of attacks the glory was only just able to block, never mind attack herself.
Then Buffy, like Spike before her, used the same move she had dropped Spike with in the gym. It worked like a charm. But Buffy put all her power into it, and she was sure everyone heard the crack that sounded on the impact of her foot and Glory's ribs.
Glory went down. And stayed down.
"Ladies and Gentleman!!!!! The winner and once more champion, Buffy 'the Slayer' Summers of Cali high!!! And it's a double win for the Indians! What a day for this school!" they announcer whooped.
But before Buffy stepped out of the ring, she collapsed, and the world went black.
