Since you've been gone: Past
by spuffygurl11
Disclaimer: If I owned Buffy do you actually think Riley would exist? Well maybe, but only if he got killed after a couple episodes and Spike comforted Buffy, [he he he].
When you’re in love the rest of the world just seems to fade away, but life always catches up with you.
Buffy had been dreading confronting her friends. She knew they weren’t happy at all with her relationship with Spike, but they were her friends, and he was the best thing that had happened to her for a long time.
Buffy paused before opening the door to the Magic Box. Time seemed frozen, no one said anything, as if afraid if they did she’d be gone as soon as they did.
Anya, obviously annoyed was the one to break the silence, “Because of you Xander was to upset to play games with me! Not even the one where he chains me up to the bed…,” Anya ranted scowling before Willow cut her off to Xander’s relief.
“What she means is were sorry Buffy,” Willow cautiously told her, afraid she was still angry.
“You should be! Xander punched him!” Buffy exclaimed forgetting that on many occasions she had hurt him more then Xander ever could.
“My first thought when I see a demon is to kill it!”
Xander defended, his delicate male ego clouding the part of his brain that knew making Buffy angry wasn’t usually the smartest thing to do,
“Xander your girlfriend was a demon! No offense Anya,” Buffy told Anya apologetically, seeing the look the ex vengeance demon was giving her. Anya bristled but didn’t say anything for once.
“Ex being the key word here! Spike would kill us all if he had the chance!”
“Do you honestly think that? He was tortured by Glory to protect Dawn! And he’s saved your life more times then I can count, Alexander Harris!”
Xander cringed at the full name thing, Buffy never did that! Ego or not Xander had enough brain cells active at the time to know that getting beat up by a slayer was not very fun.
“Whatever, but when he turns on us I won’t hesitate to say I told you so,” Xander accepted grudgingly.
Smiling with satisfaction, Buffy sat down to read a magazine inside a big demon book so Giles wouldn’t lecture her on reading ‘that rubbish,’ but of course her life could never be simple.
“Uh, Buffy there’s just one more little thing,” Willow meekly explained.
“Which is?”
“Um, well it’s just…”
“Angels back, he’s human, and he wants you back,” Anya cut her off with her usual Anya bluntness.
“Well that was a great way to tell her Ahn,” Xander sarcastically told his girlfriend while trying to break the new found tension in the room.
Saying nothing Buffy just stared as Angel came out from the shadows, “Buffy it’s true, we can finally be together.”
Buffy still said nothing but she didn’t have to, someone else came into the Magic Box.
“Not if I have anything to say about it,” announced Riley Finn [yeah Riley.]
“Okay is my life a soap opera now! Are you also going to tell me Dawn’s in a coma or something!” Buffy looks around at everyone’s grave faces, “Oh my god is she?”
“No, Buffy I’m so sorry for what I did! I love you and I need you, please forgive me!” Riley pleaded looking very pathetic to all the witnesses.
“Okay that’s it! I know it’s ‘ex boyfriend come bug Buffy day’ but I’m going out to get something and then we can talk,” Buffy told her ex’s who were looking at the floor like two four year olds in trouble, which in a sense they were but whatever.
With that said Buffy walked out of the Magic Box, no one dared protest; she knew exactly where she was going.
Carefully opening the door so as to not let any sunlight in Buffy walked into Spike’s crypt. The blonde vampire was sleeping in a chair and would of looked cute with his hair all tousled if he hadn’t had blood on his lip from his cup.
Shaking him Buffy talked to him softly, “Spike wake up. Grab a blanket; we have to go to the Magic Box.”
Opening his eyes Spike looked like he was going to say something, but Buffy was faster, “Don’t ask questions, please just do it.”
Usually he would’ve argued but he was half asleep and he would do what ever Buffy asked of him. So he wrapped a blanket around his exposed skin and followed his girlfriend into the toxic sun.
Spike managed to make it to the Magic Box without turning into a pile of Spike dust.
The couple walked into the store, everyone stopped talking [the conversation probably about them] there wasn’t an awkward silence because Buffy started talking.
“Angel, Riley let me explain,” the pair looked hopefully at her,
“Angel, you left me. I loved you and you left me.
Riley, you cheated on me with vampire hookers because you were upset that I was spending my time worrying over my dying mother instead of you.
So when I was upset over my fourth failed relationship Spike was there. He stayed with me, and you know that’s a lot better then either of you have ever done.”
After her speech Angel and Riley were the silent ones, but not for long, “You chose Spike over me?” Angel asked horrified at the thought that Buffy could love anyone besides him.
“Is this a spell or something? He has no soul! He could kill you!” Riley said also shocked that Hostile 17 was now more important to Buffy then him.
“That’s what I said,” Xander mumbled, getting a slap on the head from Dawn who unlike Buffy’s exes and Xander was ecstatic about Spike dating her sister.
“Did you not get me the first time? I choose Spike, I’m sorry but you’ve both hurt me so much and I love Spike now,” Buffy firmly told them, taking Spike’s hand in her own.
“Yeah, she’s my girl now!” Spike added every part of him seemed to smirk at Peaches and Captain Cardboard’s loss of Buffy to him!
Angel glared at Spike but didn’t start fighting with [no matter how much he wanted to] he just turned to Spike and reluctantly told him something not sire to childe, or enemt to enemy, but ex-boyfriend to new boyfriend.
“I don’t like this, in fact it disturbs me just thinking about it, but Buffy can do whatever she wants and I don’t have a right to try to change her mind. Just Spike, take care of her. If you hurt her then I swear that I’ll kill you myself.”
It wasn’t very nice but it was just how Angel was and Buffy appreciated it, she smiled warmly at him.
Riley being Riley couldn’t take it as maturely as Angel, but then Angel was over two hundred years older then Riley but that doesn’t matter.
“Buffy I think you’re making a huge mistake and you’ll regret it, but I’m not going to change your mind.”
“Like you could,” Spike muttered under his breath, but not so quietly that Riley didn’t hear it all.
Riley also glared at Spike, but he and Angel did what they did best, they left.
