Rising Dreams: Night and Night

This is my first attempt at writing fan-fiction. I hope I’ve portrayed the characters well. This fic is based in the beginning of the sixth season. Please read and review! It would really hep me write better.

“Ouch!” Buffy gets punched in the face by a vampire and falls to the ground moaning. The vamp grabs her by her jacket and flips her over his shoulder. She lands with a thud on a tombstone moaning in pain she tries to lift herself up but the vamp comes over to her and pulls her up into a headlock while Buffy struggles to free herself. The vamp then pokes a stake through Buffy's arm causing her to scream in pain.

Buffy wakes up in her room abruptly, screaming and clutching her left arm. She looks around and is relived to know that it was just a dream. She then lifts the sleeve of her nightdress and is shocked to find a big red bruise on her left arm.

Buffy enters the Magic Box. The place seems deserted except for Giles who was standing behind the counter, completely absorbed in a book titled ‘Healing Potions’.

As Buffy entered, Giles looked up and greeted her putting the book down on the counter. “Morning Giles, where is everyone?” Buffy asked looking around the empty shop.

“Well, business is slow today. There hasn’t been a single sale all morning” Giles said moving around the counter and taking a seat around the circular table.

“Oh” Buffy said taking a seat opposite Giles and continued “And where is the gang?” she asked.

“Xander and Anya are out checking china for their wedding and....” “They’re getting married in China!” Buffy cut him off with a shocked expression on her face.

“Silverware, Buffy” Giles said. “Oh, I knew that” Buffy said blushing slightly.

“As I was saying, Willow and Tara are having a ‘girls day out’ as Willow called it” Giles finished.

“So I guess it’s just the two of us today” Buffy said smiling.

“Yes, indeed” Giles said returning her smile.

“Er.. Giles, we haven't really talked ever since” Buffy pauses. “You came back” Giles finished the sentence for her.

“Yeah, well you know, ever since the guys pulled me out of hell” Buffy hesitated for a bit then continued “things have been a little shaky. And I just wondered if whether you could help me with a problem?”

“Buffy is there something bothering you?” Giles asked taking off his glasses and wiping them.

“Well, last night I had this dream where I was getting severely beaten up by this extremely strong vampire” Buffy said hoping it didn’t sound too wimpy.

“Was it Spi..?” “No!” Buffy cut him off. “It wasn't Spike. It was an ordinary vampire, the kind I kill every now and then.”

“Carry on” Giles said putting his glasses back on. “The thing is that I felt completely helpless in this dream. I tried but the vamp was much stronger than me.” She said.

“Buffy, you do understand that it was just a dream and it doesn't change the fact that you're very strong and focused real life.” Giles said reassuringly.

“Let me finish!” Buffy said more strongly than she intended. “The vamp staked me in the arm. And when I woke up this morning, I was in pain and I saw this bruise on the same arm” She pulled up her sleeve showing a red stake wound on her left arm.

“My God!” Giles exclaimed looking closer at the wound. “And this wound appeared today?” He asked.

“As soon as I woke up” Buffy said rolling her sleeve back down covering the wound. What do you think it is? What caused it?” she asked.

“There must be a number of possibilities, one of them being....” said Giles as Xander and Anya entered the store arguing.

“I should never have involved you in this wedding” Anya said fuming. “Hey, I 'm the groom remember. Without me there will be no wedding” Xander said matching her anger.

“Nothing can stop me from having this wedding Xander Harris” Anya snapped at Xander. “The weddings going to go on, even if you leave me at the alter.” She said glaring at him. Xander opens his mouth to retort but Buffy intervenes.

“Whoa! What brought this on?” Buffy asked looking at both of them in turn.

“Why don’t you ask your friend here” Anya said frowning. “Xander?” Buffy looked at him inquisitively. He looked at Anya who was avoiding his gaze, sighed and said “Here’s the thing, Anya isn’t happy with the silverware I pre-ordered for the wedding because...”

“Oh you’re not telling it right!” Anya cut him off. “Mr. Thoughtful here pre-ordered a set of silverware that has..... bunny designs” She said in a choked voice.

“I’d seen them in a magazine and thought they looked kinda cute. The bunnies kinda looked like teddy bears to me” Xander said defensively.

“How difficult is it to tell apart bunny's from teddy bears?” Anya said exasperatingly.

Buffy rolled her eyes and said “Whats the big deal? Just get different silverware. Without Bunny designs that is”

“Thats what I wanted, but then he told me that he had already paid for them without even consulting me” Anya said.

“You didn’t ask her permission?” Buffy looked at Xander.

“Hey! In my defense, she asked me to get more involved” He said pointing at Anya.

“Are you saying this is my fault?” Anya said seething. “Look, I can’t do this right now” said Xander and he turned towards the door of the shop with Anya taunting behind him “Go run away! Thats what you're best at anyway! Coward!” “Now wait just a minute!” Xander stopped short and turned around. “You’re such an inconsiderate.....” Anya said franticly trying to find the proper word.

“Thats enough you two!” Giles exclaimed and continued “I understand that you're both very upset at each other right now. But we have more pressing issues to deal with other than arguing about a silverware mix-up”

Xander looked at Anya who was now standing behind the counter avoiding his gaze, then at Buffy who was standing awkwardly in the middle of the shop and finally at Giles who was looking intently at Buffy. He sighed and after a few seconds said “You’re right Giles, we’re all adults here...” Anya snorted. Xander ignored her and continued. “So whats new in Sunnydale?”

“Apparently a demon that attacks in dreams.” Giles stated. Anya and Xander looking bewildered.
