Way to close for comfort: What just happened?
by spuffygurl11
“What just happened?” Buffy stammered confused, thoughts ran all over in her mind,”I kissed Spike!
What’s wrong with me? He doesn’t even have a soul! But he cares about you,” her mind argued with her.
“I kissed you love,” Spike replied, not even bothering to cover the emotion in his voice.
“But you hate me! I hate you! I think? What happened? Yesterday you would have killed me, today you kiss me!” Buffy ranted, mystified by Spike-Buffy not killing each other feelings.
"I don’t hate you pet,” Spike said quietly.
“What,” Buffy asked tears welling up in her eyes.
“Ever since I came back I didn’t want to hurt you, now I know why,” Spike admitted softly.
“Why?” Buffy, questioned afraid of what the answer was.
“I love you,” Spike whispered, staring at the floor. She was shocked, he loved her? It was all too much, “I’ve got to go,” Buffy exclaimed, running to her room.
“Now you’ve done it,” Spike thought aloud watching her run.
Buffy locked the door to her room alone with her thoughts,
“Spike loves me? How do I feel about him? Is he lying?”
Her relationship with Spike used to be so easy, fighting, and insulting, now it was comforting and kissing?
“This was Spike, evil, soulless, funny, clever, hot, no he is not hot!” She scolded her mind for even thinking non hate stuff about Spike.
Back in the basement, Spike was doing some deliberating himself, “I love her? How does she feel about me? What am I going do about her?
This was Buffy good, soulful, funny, clever, beautiful, “Oh god is she beautiful,” but she would never love him she was to Buffy.
The next day all the scoobies met up in the library to research Casilda with Spike’s help.
“Spike, do you know anything about Casilda?” Giles questioned Spike.
“Casilda! She and I used to have lots of fun back in the eighteenth century,” Spike reflected smiling at the memory.
“If you call going on killing sprees fun, then yeah a lot of fun,” Buffy retorted, trying to deny anything happened between Spike and her.
“Hello, demon, evil. It’s what I bloody do,” Spike shot back, hurt at Buffy’s coldness towards him.
“Do you know about how they trapped her?”
“Yeah, some bloody monk said some magic words, and trapped her in a bloody diamond!” Spike exclaimed, apparently horrified that such a great demon could stopped.
“Where is the diamond now?” Giles asked, unaware of Buffy and Spike’s strangeness towards each other.
“It’s in some museum across town,” Spike replied nonchalantly.
“Splendid! You and Buffy can go get it,” Giles pleased, proposed.
“Why do I have to go,” Buffy protested, afraid of being alone Spike.
“Because you might meet some demons on you journey there,” Giles explained.
“Besides Spike,” Xander teased, earning a scowl from Spike and to his surprise, a glare from Buffy.
“Not funny, Xander,” Buffy told off.
“Why do you care anyway?” Xander asked, annoyed.
“Yeah, why do you care Buffy,” Spike said defiantly.
“I-I don’t, I’m just tired,” Buffy lied, looking down at her feet.
“Let’s go,” Buffy said to Spike, as if to prove whatever she and Spike were wasn’t true.
“Kay,” Spike answered.
After they got out of hearing distance from the scoobies Spike asked, “Why’d you defend me from Harris?”
“Because he was being a jerk to you,” Buffy defended herself lamely.
“You didn’t used to care,” Spike hesitantly said.
“That was before,” Buffy replied slowly.
“Before what?” Spike requested, hoping she meant what he thought she meant.
“This,” Buffy answered, slipping her hands around his neck, she kissed him passionately. When they broke apart, Spike was smiling from the bliss Buffy had given him.
“You don’ know how much this means to me,” Spike said in awe.
“I think I can guess,” Buffy replied, placing her small hand in his.
They walked together, hand in hand, completely forgetting that he was a vampire and she was a slayer, then they were just two people, in love. They would’ve forgotten all about Casilda, if a demon hadn’t jumped out.
“Great, just great, do you guys always to come at the worst times? Oh well now I’ll just kill you,” Buffy brightly said to the demon, her hand letting go of Spike’s and curled into fists, fists that used to used on him, he thought.
Spike watched Buffy fight with a new appreciation of her, her movements were powerful and in sync, if the demon knocked her down she would just flip up backwards and keep fighting.
Eventually she killed it, so she and Spike went off to find the museum.
“You know love we ‘ave to tell your friends about us,” Spike stated, Buffy’s head on his shoulder.
“I know, but just let me tell them,” Buffy negotiated.
“Buffy…” “I’ll tell them, I promise, I just don’t want Xander to stake you,” Buffy interrupted.
“I can never say no to you pet,” Spike laughed.
“But that’s why you love me,” Buffy smiled innocently.
“You wish,” Spike grinned pulling her to him and locking lips.
Reluctantly Buffy pulled away remembering Casilda, “Mmm, Spike we have to stop the setting free of an evil demon.”
“Buffy,” Spike pouted.
“Ten minutes won’t kill us,” Buffy smiled slyly, kissing him for twenty.
“Okay now we really have to go,” Buffy said dramatically.
Spike led the way to the museum, kicking the door open before walking in.
“The door was unlocked, but your way is fine to,” Buffy teased.
“So where’s the diamond thingy,” Buffy asked poking the exhibits.
“Over in medieval artifacts,” Spike pointed to a group of relics including suits of amour.
“Spike my little history buff,” Buffy teased.
“Love it’s not really history if you lived in it.”
“Whatever,” Buffy said rolling her eyes.
“Here love,” Spike said tossing Buffy a large beautiful diamond.
“I could’ve dropped it!” Buffy scowled at the thought of breaking the amazing stone.
“Oh poor slayer, afraid of unleashing unspeakable evil,” Spike taunted, smirking.
“Okay we have the diamond, can we go now,” Buffy sulked.
“Okay, come on,” Spike replied putting an arm around her waist.
“Let’s just go home. I really don’t want to deal with Xander and Giles,” Buffy sighed laying her head on his shoulder.
“Home,” Spike thought, “I like the sound of that.”
They walked through the door with yet another note from her Mom, but Buffy was to happy to notice, at least Spike loved her.
Spike let go of Buffy and started to make his way to the basement when Buffy called, “Where are you going?”
“Basement love.”
“Please don’t,” Buffy pleaded.
“Whatever you want love,” Spike answered.
“Sleep on the couch…with me,” Buffy said quietly.
“Really?” Spike asked amazed she trusted him.
“Yeah,” Buffy smiled. Spike lay down on the couch, and Buffy snuggled onto his chest with his arms around her.
They lay their for what seemed a wonderful eternity. Spike was strangely relaxed by her heartbeat, it used to make him hungry to taste her blood, but that was before.
The next morning Spike woke up first, but he didn’t move in case he disturbed his love. When Buffy started to stir Spike kissed her on the cheek.
“Hey,” Buffy said her voice heavy with sleep.
“What time is it?”
“Seven thirty pet,” Spike answered. “Oh god, I’m so late!”
“Want me to drive you?” Spike asked Buffy, scrambling to get ready.
“Great. I guess missing history isn’t so bad,” Buffy said thoughtfully, “I mean I haven’t been since October.”
“Why?”
“Well when you get home at two you usually oversleep, or investigating the latest big bad,” Buffy replied.
Spike looked at the woman he loved and wanted to do something to make her life a little easier, “When the sun goes down I’ll take you out love.”
“Okay, that’s great. We have to go,” Buffy beamed at Spike. They drove to the school in Spike’s spray painted car, Buffy gave him a quick kiss before walking out.
“Bye pet don’t kill anything till you get back,” Spike called grinning.
“I can try, but I’m not promising anything,” she grinned back.
“Buffy, where were you?” Willow asked, worried that she was hurt.
“Got back late from patrol, lost track of time,” Buffy answered, calming Willow’s fears.
“Oh, did you find the diamond?”
“Yeah, it’s in my backpack; let’s go give it to Giles,” Buffy replied, planning to tell them about Spike when they were all together.
