Chapter Three: Angelus
Buffy waited for Derek to begin. There was at least three minutes of silence before he actually began. She could tell that he was trying to make it suspenseful. Buffy was interested in hearing the story, but...she didn't care that much. She just wanted Derek to get on with it and then leave so she could start making a plan to get out of the basement.

"I guess you already know that Angelus didn't always have a soul. He sired many people including me. Some people he did kill, but he decided to sire me. I considered myself very lucky. It turns out that Angelus never kept his promises anyway." Derek paused, waiting for Buffy to make some kind or response. She stared at him.

"You can keep going." She replied.

"I was such a scared little boy. Oh let's see...I guess I was 'bout 17 or so. Really stupid, I was. Going out to the bars and having a few drinks. Then trying to have my way with...the ladies." Derek grinned. "Anyway, Angelus, or Liam at the time, would also do the same. He hated his father so much and would often talk about it. We were friends...I was closer to him than my own family. Then one day he left the bar and I never saw him again. Turns out he was dead. A lot of people, surprisingly, came to his funeral. I was there. It was so sad...even his father had tears in his eyes." Derek paused again.

"This whole pausing thing is getting annoying and the story is totally boring. Why are you wasting my time?"

"Wasting you time? Um...I'm holding you prisoner. You should be thankful that I'm entertaining you with a story about your dear Angel."

"Excuse me?"

"Oh come on. All of the vamps in town know you have a thing for each other. It's really pathetic. A vampire falling for a slayer. Makes me laugh every time."

"I don't know what you're taling about.. We were never...together."

"That's what you say."

"Can we please change the subject? Why don't you get on with the story or leave?"

"So that you can start making plans to escape? I don't think so. Molly and the others may be pretty stupid, but I am not. Afterall, I was trained by the best of 'em."

"Yeah...whatever." Buffy sighed. She had only known Derek for a few hours and he was already bugging her.

"Fine. I think it was about...oh...three, maybe four, days after his funeral when he rose. I didn't know it at first and neither did the rest of Ireland. Well, his father, mother, and sister were killed. No one saw exactly what happend, but they did have bite marks on their necks. Angelus had killed his family and no one knew he did. I had heard about the deaths of his family and I was upset. I went to a bar and drank a little. That's when Angelus walked right into the bar. I thought I was in some dream. I had seen him put into the ground and yet here he was like he....had never died. Everyone was confused and they turned their head as he walked into the bar."

"You didn't know he was a vampire?"

"No. No one did. Back then we heard rumors about vampires, but we never believed that they were real. How were we supposed to know if we had never seem one ourselves? So, Angelus walked into the bar and sat down beside me. I stared at him in disbelief, not wanting to see him. I knew that he really couldn't be there. However, he spoke to me as if nothing had ever happened. 'Hey. Been a while, has it not?" he was actually making a joke. I took a deep breath and looked him in the eyes. I saw evil in them and that's when I knew that something was not right. 'Liam?' I had to make sure that it was really him. 'In the flesh. But, I don't like that name. Angelus it mine now.' 'What happened to you?' I asked him. He had been my best friend, died, and now was back for some odd reason saying his name was Angelus. Nothing made any sense. 'Something wonderful. I've been reborn. I want you to meet someone.' Angelus smiled and called a girls name. It was Darla. 'Who is this?' I began to wonder if he staged his death. Perhaps he had wanted people to think he was dead so that he could run off with some girl. 'Darla.' The girl spoke for herself. 'I'm the one who gave birth to Angelus here.' She smiled. 'I don't understand...' I waited for an explanation. 'You should probably come with us. We need to leave here. I don't want people to think that I'm crazy.' Angelus took Darla's hand and they led me out into at alley. 'This is where Angelus was born.' Darla began. 'I found him all alone....he needed comfort. I'm the one who made him.' 'Made him in to what?' I asked. I was more confused than before. Darla's face suddendly changed and so did Angelus's. They were vampies. I knew that then. I had heard to rumors about the fangs and the bumpy foreheads...I just didn't want to believe it. 'Vampires.' I gasped and they just laughed at me." Derek stopped. "Are you listening?" He asked Buffy.

"Oh...um...yes I am. Go ahead." Buffy waited for him to continue. She wasn't extremely interested in hearing the story, but...there was a slight amount there. She had found out that Angel had once been Angelus, but now he was good. Her mind went back to that night in her room when he had kissed her and changed.

"I stared at them. Part of me wanted to run away from them, but the other part, the part I listened to, told me to stay. 'He was coming our of the same bar we just came out of. Angelus was so drunk...I remember it very well. He came over to me and his eyes went wide. I said some stuff, really doesn't matter what, and made him into what he is now.' 'You did that to him? Why?' I was very curios. 'Oh...don't worry, Derek. It's okay now. I'm glad that Darla made me what I am, a vampire. I have new life and will live forever.' 'Unless some vampire hunters get a hold of you. Then they will kill you and send you to where you belong.' I warned hoping that he would actually go away. 'I don't care. They can come after me if their hearts desire.' Angelus smiled. 'I told you your friend wouldn't understand. They never do.' Darla said. 'We should just turn him now and get it over with.' Angel replied. 'You sure you just don't want to kill him?' Darla asked. 'I'm sure. His mind will change in about a week's time.' Then Angel walked over to me. I wanted to move, but I was frozen. He got even closer to me and sank his teeth into my neck. They say it only hurts for a moment, and it does, but it is very painful. I screamed, but it only made Angelus and Darla laugh. Angelus had been right. About one week later, I did understand."

"Okay....but why did you tell me that? I could've lived without knowing that. What's so special about you and Angel?" Buffy asked.

"You can't be patient? I wasn't finished with my story."

"Fine. Continue." Buffy sighed. Was the story every going to be finished?

"You made me lose my place...let's see...um...oh yes, I remeber now. I'll just get to the part where I realized I was a vampire too. Going over the graphic details isn't really my style. Unless of course you want them." Derek smiled.

"No, that's okay." Buffy responded. She looked down at the floor and then back up at Derek.

"It was a very cold night...sometime in December...maybe January...I don't know. Anyway, all of a sudden I woke up. It took me a while to figure out exaclty where I was. When I found out I was some where underneath the ground, I began to worry. I sat up and bumped my head. I was inside of a coffin. I didn't remeber ever getting there at all. I banged on the top and clawed at the interior cloth. I finally got out of the coffin and got up through the soil. I took in deep breaths and suddently realized that I didn't need to breath the air. I stood up and that's when I saw Darla and Angelus standing across from me. They had been waiting for me to rise. They had strange grins on their face. Darla was the first to speak. 'Wel, you finally got up. We've been waiting for hours? How do you feel?' She asked me walked towards me with Angelus behind her. 'I don't know...I mean...I don't remember.' I looked at Angelus. 'I didn't remember anything at first either. You're a vampire, that's what happend.' Angelus explained. I just stared at the two in disbelief. I was a what? They must have sensed my confusion. 'It's really not so bad. We're going to take you on you're first hunt. Human blood...warm and delicious. Don't tell me that you're not feeling the cravings.' Darla looked at me. 'I just...feel so strange. I have power...I'm stronger than I ever was before and I do have a craving for blood. It kind of frightens me a little bit though. What do I do?' I asked. 'You'll just have to find out. It would be a waste of time to sit here and try to explain it. Why don't you come with me and Darla on a hunt?' Angelus asked. What was I supposed to do? Stand there and say no? I decided that I needed to know everything about beeing a vampire. Darla had been one for a really long time and Angelus for a little bit. I wanted to hunt with them." Derek paused.

"So, you went on a hunt?" Buffy asked.

"Yes."

"Please spare me the details of that and get to the point."

"The point...ah...yes, the point. There really is not point but that I worked along side of Angelus for a while."

"You mean to tell me you went into this really long, boring story just to...tell it?"

"I didn't intend for it to be boring."

"You acutally thought that I would enjoy this story?"

"I guess I did. It was better than nothing to entertain you."

"But there has to be something. There has to be a reason why...oh never mind. I should've known there wasn't going to be a point to your story."

"Well, at least I'm trying to make conversation."

"Yeah, you a vampire and I'm the slayer. They usually don't sit around a camp fire telling stories. They fight and I always win. Why are you so different?" Buffy asked.

"I don't know. Maybe there's something I picked up from being around Angel. Something about being attracked to Ms. Buffy Summers."

"Do you have to bring that up?"

"Do I not?"

"Look, it's late and I'm sure there's some...well vampirey things that you could be doing. Talking to the slayer about old times wouldn't really be considered one of them."

"Fine, I'll go. The door locks from the outside and trust me, there is no possible way to get out of here, but from that door. I've never been able to see anyone break it down. If you do ever get out of those chains you can't get the door open. See you tomorrow." Derek smiled, waved, and walked up the stairs closing the door behind of him. Buffy watched him leave and sighed. It didn't look like she was going to get out any time soon and she knew that she wouldn't be able to stand any more of his stories. She needed a plan and needed it fast.
