Between Apocalypses: Chapter Eighteen

by rockangelz25

Connor came to and looked around. It was no surprise that his stupid father had abandoned him--for the third time.

No matter what Angel said, he'd abandoned him to Quar'toth. If only for that, and for wrecking everyone else's memories, he should die. Well, that, and the fact that he was a vampire.

He always treated Connor like he was nothing, like he was just a child. Or a lunatic. But not anymore. He was back, and he was going to show his dad what he was made of. Whatever it took--fire, a stake, or beheading.

He looked around, trying to see where everyone else was. The Slayer was gone, too. The witch had already left, and it seemed like nearly everyone else had gone....

Wait. He caught a smell from the other room. It was someone new, but still someone. He walked toward the smell.

When he got there, he discovered someone lying face-down on the ground, groaning and starting to come to. Connor grabbed him by the collar and yanked him up.

"Who are you?" he demanded. The dark blond shook his head, trying to figure out where he was. Connor recognized him a little. Not his name, but what he was like.

"Name and rank, soldier!" he demanded.

"Riley Finn, sir!"

Riley. That was the guy that had tried to kill Dawn. Dawn hadn't seemed too bad. Sure, she didn't like Angel--but then again, neither did he.

It was probably because of his dad's omnipotent act. His whole, 'I'm going to show up, and aren't I doing you a big favor by doing that?' act that usually led to him running away again for at least one year.

Not that it mattered. Dawn wasn't here, and neither was Angel. He was stuck here with this Riley person.

"Why did you attack Dawn?" he asked sharply.

"Drusilla.... Do you know Drusilla?" he asked Connor, still pretty groggy.

"I've heard of her."

"She pulled some psychic crap on me, controlled me, and tried to use Dawn to open some hell dimension. I--ah--" he winced "--don't know why."

Connor sat back and nodded, then stood up. All that he had to do was track Angel. He could find Angel, and probably Drusilla. Or at least Spike, who should know where Dru was. From what he knew, they all tended to stick together.

"Stay here," he ordered Riley. Riley just nodded. His soldier training was telling him to listen to the man in charge.... No matter how young he appeared.
