Chapter Two: Back to School
January 16, 2020
Hey, it's me again. I actually think that writing the day's events and my feelings in a diary aren't that bad. Plus I'm grounded and writing seems to be one of my few choices to pass the time.
Winter break sadly came to an end today and it was back to school. I'll admit that I don't absolutely love school, but I don't hate it either. I have about five really close friends and I enjoy my classes. It something else that causes me to dislike it a little. I can sum it up with this word, boys.
I know every teenage girl is always talking about boys. Who she like and who she dislikes. Who she wants to take to the dance and if he says yes. Blah, blah, blah. I can't believe I'm saying this at age fifteen, but...I don't have a boyfriend and never have had one.
I know, I know. You're like 'what?' I probably should'[ve at least had one serious boyfriend, but the truth is I haven't. It didn't really bother me that much until this year. Almost all of my friends have boyfriends and I'm sick of being the third wheel.
Before we got out of school for winter break I started liking this boy named Charlie. The only problem is that I had a lot of competition. He just transfered to our school and almost every girl, whether they had a boyfriend or nor, had a crush on him. I knew that if their was anyway to get him, it would be a hard battle.
Charlie is in three of my classes so I do see him a whole lot. In Chemistry he's my lab partner so that's even better. He just treats me like that though. A lab partner. Which totally sucks. I hope he starts treating me at leat like a friend though.
Anyway, the Winter Charity Ball is coming up and I know almost every girl in school wants to go with Charlie. I didn't care. I thought that I would ask him anyway. So, in Chemistry, before he got there, I practiced what I would say. I had about two minutes before he came and sat down and three minutes until the bell would ring.
I got out my binder from my bookbag and put it on the table. I pretended to be looking for something and then dropped the binder on the floor near Charlie. All of my papers spilled every where and I acted like I was upset and bent down to pick them up.
"Sorry...I'm such a clutz today." I picked up about three papers.
"It's fine. Accidents happen." He smiled at me and then helped me pick up my papers.
"Yeah...well thanks."
"You're welcome. Do you think we're going to a lab today?"
"I'm not sure. Mr. Jones said that we might. I hope so."
"Me too. I really enjoy doing labs. I'm also really glad that I have you as a lab partner."
I blushed a little because it caught me off guard. "Really?" I responded.
"Yeah. You're smart. I could've been stuck with someone stupid. You know what you're doing though."
"Oh." He just liked me because I was smart.
"You going to that Charity Ball thing?" He asked.
My heart began to race. "Um...I'm not sure." I quickly replied trying not to sound like how I really felt.
"I want to go, but I don't know who to take. Every girl in the whole school has practically asked me out, but you."
"Oh...yeah. I um...bet so."
"You want to go with me? I can't choose between the girls who already asked me. Most of them I don't even know. You're my lab partner though."
"Go with you?" I couldn't believe what he was saying.
"Yes. Would you go with me?"
"I don't know. Um...let me think." I pretended to really be thinking. I didn't want to sound desperate or anything." Sure. I'll go with you." I replied.
"Cool." He replied with a smile. "I'll pick you up around seven Friday."
"Okay." I smiled back at him and then the bell rang.
I should've known that it was a bad omen. Not the bell ringing or anything, but the fact that I had a date to the dance. Later on that day I had some big trouble with this girl named Kathy. What a you know what.
She thinks that she is the most popular girl in school and the truth is that even her friends hate her. She's rude and so annoying. I don't see how she even has friends or a boyfriend. Anyway it turns out that she wanted to go to the dance with Charlie. Something happened between me and her during lunch.
I was sitting at a table with my friends laughing and having fun when she walks up. At first I ignored her, but she insisted that she needed to talk to me right then. I turned to her and listened.
"I don't know who you think you are, but you better stay away from Charlie! I know you're going with him to the dance, but not if I can help it. If I go to the dance and see you there with him, you'll be dead. That's not a threat either. It's a promise." Kathy gave me a fake smile and then walked away.
I just rolled my eyes at her thinking she wasn't serious. The dance was a week Friday and there was no way that she was going to 'kill me.' I guess I'll find out at the dance. I'm still going to go with Charlie.
