And Then There Were Three: You've Got to be Joking me

(Back at the Magic Shop, Xander, Anya, Willow, Tara, Buffy, and Giles are still staring at the door amazed that the Council of Watchers is standing there, Quentin Travers and several other Watchers, no one really knew them by name)

Buffy still hated Quentin Travers for firing Giles and conducting his almost deadly experiment on her during her 18th birthday. Just the sight of him made Buffy cringe with anger. Buffy stood up to face them better, as did Giles.

“What are you doing here?” Telling by Giles’s tone, his feelings for Quentin Travers were the similar to Buffy’s.

“Our Intentions were to give you some bit of information…” Quentin stepped further inside away from the door looking around the magic shop.

“And?... You’re not getting any younger.” Buffy snapped impatiently although the thought of more information about Glory made relieved her.

Quentin walked over and put a black leather briefcase on the counter and took out one folder, packed neatly with papers. “And…. We need you to take care of something for us. A problem that we can’t get rid of ourselves.”

*A new problem!* Buffy thought. *We already have enough on our hands.* She kept her cool and studied Quentin carefully. “What exactly do you mean by ‘a problem’? Did u let another demon loose in *my* town?” Buffy said reminding him that she wasn’t soon forgetting the events of her 18th birthday.

“No, not a demon.” Said one of the watchers that walked in with Quentin. Quentin shot him a look.

“What does he mean?” Said Buffy coolly.

“Well you see there’s a rogue slayer…”

Xander interrupted him “Well, cancel his subscription of day old times! Thanks for the new bit of information that we didn’t know about 2 years ago, now if u could just scurry your tea drinkin’ selves out of here…”

“Not Faith, there’s another one, worse, very powerful, amazing power.” Quentin said trailing off as though it was a fond memory.

“What do you mean another one?” Giles said sitting down, slowly.

“How can that be, into every generation, one *died* the next is called, I only ya know died once for Faith to come and Faith hasn’t died… yet.” Buffy said skeptically.

Then after they gave Quentin some tea and he took a seat, he put the folder on the table and opened the folder. The first page was a picture of a girl and her name and address and lists of information about her, Buffy couldn’t make out most of it.

He told them that they had watchers all over the world watching the best potential slayers out there, that way they could organize them if Buffy was to ever die. (“Thanks for your support” Buffy added after that). Then he talked about a slayer from New York, she was athletic, smart, popular and extremely extremely powerful. She had power that could even surpasse Buffy, but she didn’t know why that made her dangerous. For some reason she had her slayer strength, the watchers knew it and the demons felt the power and when Quentin was informed about this he decided they were going to break the rule just once for this girl, he had no choice. If the demons were to get to her and take control of her she would be a formable enemy. She was wearing a target sign on her back and she had no idea what was happening. They decided to tell her about her calling and train her. But she was young, too young for the pressure of vampire slaying, school, and being a normal teenage girl. She caved and one day she murdered her entire family –her mother, her father, her 10 year-old brother Robert, her best friend Lauren Stevenson, and her boyfriend of one year, Jason Origgio, when they were in a car together. The day of her birthday, January 5. Then Quentin explained that she took off, they have been tracking her ever since they found out about the murders. Nine months later she, for some reason made her way here to Sunnydale.

“We’re not sure why she’s here Buffy, but she knows about you, Sunnydale and the Hellmouth, so what ever the reason is, you’re guaranteed it’s not good.” Quentin said

Buffy knew he was leaving out information, but then again he was always leaving out information, but she didn’t care this girl was just like Faith and she was going to do whatever they asked. More innocent people weren’t going to die; she wasn’t going to let this new slayer get away with it. “What do you want us to do?”

Then Quentin took a larger bag from one of his watchers and opened it up and showed them something that made then stare in awe. “It’s simple really; we want you to kill her.”

Just them Dawn walked opened the door, she was much later than she should have been, she was out of breath wanting to tell Buffy the story of the girl, Paige that just saved her life, how strong she was, she seemed like a slayer, she could help Buffy with Faith and Glory. Dawn stopped dead when she saw the watchers and the bag full of guns.

Buffy saw Dawn walk in. If it was any normal day she would have been pissed and yelled, but she had a rogue slayer on her hands, a dangerous one that killed even her own family. This infuriated Buffy, she would sell her soul to have her mother back, and this girl went out and killed her entire family, her best friend and her boyfriend.

Quentin took out larger pictures of the target and held one of them up. “We don’t want another mishap like Faith on our hands. Her name is Paige, these watchers will teach all of you how to use these guns properly and you will track her down and take her out before more innocent people die, like her family did.”

Dawn looked up when she heard the name, then she gulped when she saw the picture it was the same girl that saved her life, only she was smiling in the picture, she was really pretty and bursting with happiness. *She couldn’t have killed her family* she thought. Why would she go out of her way to save her life when she’s a cold blooded murderer?

Xander was still staring at the guns with a smile on his face, his transformation into army guy on Halloween was going to be really useful this mission.

“You’ve got to be joking.” Giles said looking at the arsenal of guns uncomfortably.
