Chapter 8

Angel at least had the decency to look ashamed. All he could do was stare at her with wide eyes and gulp. Repeatedly.

“Angel, I mean now,” Buffy said, the coldness evident in her voice.

If Angel took the time to look deep enough into Buffy’s emerald eyes, he would be able to see past her cold exterior, and he would be able to see down into the vulnerability, sadness, and pain swirling around. Of course, if Angel took the time to do a lot of things involving her, they wouldn’t be where they were now.

“Listen Buff, I can explain,” Angel’s shock was replaced with his normal cocky self. He quickly hid his worries and began to cover with a lie…again.

“Oh, I can’t wait to hear this one!” Buffy shrieked. “Are you going to tell me the truth this time?”

“Honey, of course I am. I haven’t exactly been lying before,” Angel assured her, moving to wrap his arms around her and embrace her as tightly as he could.

Buffy, as much as she was afraid of losing another man…her father who left when she was a teenager, Riley, and now Angel, she couldn’t give in to his broody chocolate eyes, or his sweet talk.

“Don’t touch me,” She said a little too firmly as she took a step away from him.

“Jeez Buff, lighten up,” Angel scoffed.

“Stop avoiding the subject. What the hell is going on Angel? I want the truth and I want it now,” Buffy demanded, glaring at him with such fire that he didn’t want to beat around the bush anymore.

Sighing, he gave in. “Fine. Cordelia is my mother. She’s the one I’ve been calling and seeing. Then Wesley wasn’t sick per say, he was just dumped by his girlfriend named Fred, who happens to just be a guy. See he just came out of the closet. He’s gay. I couldn’t exactly tell you all of this before sweetheart, because it would’ve ruined Wesley, and I was just so scared for my mother.”

Finally taking a breath after his ‘confessions’, Angel looked at Buffy, waiting for her to buy his lies. Again.

Cautiously going over to her, Angel reached out and grabbed her arm above her elbow. Gently turning her to face him, he was delighted when a smile was lighting up her face, even causing one to appear on his broody features.

“See baby? I would never hurt you,” Angel promised, a smile lighting up his features, making his eyes twinkle. ‘Naïve bitc-.’

His thoughts were interrupted by a sharp stinging pain on the left cheek of his face. Stunned, Angel looked at Buffy, the shock and anger evident in his eyes. She had the nerve to slap him, and hard.

Before Angel could even begin to get angry with her, Buffy exploded. “What the hell are you thinking?! Do you think I’m that much of a dumb Californian blonde? Angel I know that you lied to me before, and I know you are lying to me now. I thought you would change, so I gave you the benefit of the doubt. Look where that got me! I just postponed the inevitable. You’re a jackass. I mean first off, you told me your mother’s name is Charlotte when we first started dating. Second of all, Wesley was at the bar last night. With his girlfriend Fred, who is a woman. Is this really the best lies you could think of? If they are, I really do feel sorry for you. You’re not as smart as you think you are. But, apparently I’m smarter than you think I am.”

Angel was seething. The heat was coming off of him in rapid waves from his anger. His eyes seemed to want to turn gold. Buffy didn’t stagger though, nor did she look afraid.

“So who is it? Do I know her? I assume her name is Cordelia, because you never MENTIONED a Cordelia before. Now all I want to know is, why?” Buffy fumed. Her face was red and her eyes looked deadly.

“Bitch,” Angel spat.

Dawn flinched from her spot against the wall, in the dining room hidden from view, but able to hear everything. She can’t believe that her sister ever claimed to “love” this man. Dawn figured that deep down her sister just said that to keep Angel around…or at least, she hoped.

“Why Angel?” Buffy asked, trying to keep her tears down and her eyes from watering.

“Don’t you get it? Buff, I wanted some ass. You weren’t willing to give me any. I just kept you around for someone to keep up my appearance. Honey, you’re just one of those ‘bring home to mom’ kinda gals,” Angel informed her crudely. Flashing her his sweetest and most innocent smile, he turned to begin to walk out the kitchen door. As his hand grasped the knob and he opened it, he glanced back at her over his shoulder. Pleased that her tears were falling down her tan cheeks, Angel smiled. “What? You didn’t actually think I loved you or anything, did you?”

“Get out,” Buffy growled. “Don’t ever come near Dawn or me again. Or I swear to God Angel you will be sorry.”

Smirking at what he thought was an idle threat, Angel walked out of Buffy’s house and life for good, slamming the door. “DAMNIT!” He screamed when he reached the porch. He just lost his shot at a normal relationship. Squinting from the sun’s rays, Angel pulled out his cell phone as he walked to his car. After it rang a few times, a female voice picked up on the other end. “Cordy, meet me at Sunnydale Inn, 15 minutes. Same room as always.”

Hanging up the phone at her obvious yes, Angel made his way into his car. Bringing the car to life, Angel sped down Revello Drive as fast as the car would let him. Looking into his rearview mirror one last time, he muttered, “This isn’t over.”

Hearing Buffy’s sobs in the kitchen was breaking Dawn’s heart. Deciding that she could do much more for her than comfort her, Dawn walked to the front door and grabbed her jacket. Buffy wouldn’t even notice Dawn missing in the short time she would be gone, so Dawn didn’t leave her a note.

A 10 minute walk later, Dawn was standing in front of the bar of the Bronze to a nice African American guy named Gunn. Happy that he was a good friend of Spike’s, Dawn figured she’d get what she came for.

“See, I really need him, and I don’t have his phone number or address. I miss him and I really would like to visit him, and it’s kind of an emergency. Could you give me his address?” Dawn half-lied.

Gunn smiled at her, knowing who she was by the amount Spike talked about her and her older sister. Knowing Spike wouldn’t get pissed just this once, Gunn grabbed a pen and scribbled down Spike’s address on a napkin.

“Here you go little lady. He wakes up about now, so don’t worry about waking him up,” Gunn handed her the napkin, offering her a smile.

Dawn returned his smile, thanked him, and made her way to Spike’s apartment.

---

“BLOODY HELL! NOT AGAIN!” Spike yelled in frustration, as the pounding at his door woke him up from sleep. Luckily he was dressed, so he immediately went to the door.

“What the hell do you want you soddin’ wanker?” Spike asked, opening the door.

“What’s a wanker?” The brunette girl asked him.

“Dawn! What a surprise! I’m sorry nibblet,” Spike apologized for his language.

The youngest Summers just smiled. “You still didn’t answer my question.”

“It’s a lovely young lady,” Spike replied.

Dawn just shook her head, knowing he was lying but deciding to drop it. “Can I uh-?” Dawn trailed off, pointing inside.

Spike got her meaning. “Come in Dawn.”

Shutting the door behind him, Spike immediately went into host mode. “So can I get you anything? A coke. Hot cocoa?”

“No I’m fine. I can’t stay long. Buffy doesn’t know I left the house,” Dawn explained.

“Wait, she doesn’t? Why are you here? How did you find out where here is?” Spike asked her, not entirely making sense because of all the thoughts and questions running through his head.

“I went to the Bronze, Gunn gave me your address. He said that you wouldn’t care if I had it. I’m here because Buffy is breaking down sobbing on the kitchen floor right now, and didn’t notice me make my way out of the house. Which is why I really have to get back,” Dawn said.

“What happened? Is she alright?” Spike asked, grabbing his leather duster off the coat rack, ready to drive to see her.

“She will be. I just thought you should know that she found out you’re cousin has been cheating on her, and they broke up,” Dawn informed him.

“They did?” Spike asked in awe. He couldn’t keep the smile from appearing on his features.

“Yeah, they did. For good.”

TBC!!!

This chapter wasn’t very Buffy friendly, and it really had Angel being a jackass to her. That’s okay though, that only leads to more Spuffiness!

Review please! We really love them! Everyone's reading but not many reviews :(. I'll try to even reply to them! Anything you want to ask or suggest, feel free!
