Grease: Apology
by ForeversEnough
Everything in the first chapter. I don’t own Buffy or any characters, and some lines are taken from the movie Grease.
Author’s Note: Wow this chapter was beyond hard to write. Writer’s block galore! A good portion of this chapter came from Spike’shellangel666, and I thank her so much for it! Give her some credit! The reason she helped was because I deleted the first quarter or so over and over again, and she got tired of waiting so she wrote one for me. I edited it and added my own little touch, and I think it came out well! Another thanks to spikezbaybeegurl for making me get my butt in gear all the time, and helping me choose a good song for this chapter.
Grease
Chapter 22
Spike ran his hands threw his hair as he walked quickly down the street toward his house. It was pointless to drive in this one Starbucks town. Not only that, but he didn’t want any of the guys to know that he was gone. He wanted them to figure he was inside messing around. If they knew how much of a wanker he was about to be…
Walking quickly into the house, Spike was a man on a mission. Ignoring anything and anyone that made its way into his path, Spike headed straight to his room. Once there, he grabbed the one thing he was searching for, and left as quickly and quietly as he came. He was now on his way to a certain blonde’s house on Revello Drive.
---
“Oh but Willow, you know I can’t go,” Buffy told her as they sat down on Buffy’s bed. Willow was trying to persuade her to head to Thunder Road and watch the race.
“But Buffy, why not? All of the gang will be there,” Willow assured her.
“That’s just it. You know what Spike did, I just don’t think I’m ready to face him,” Buffy argued.
“Buffy, you have to let him know you’re stronger than him. You can’t let him bring you down,” Willow reasoned.
“Willow, he only wants me for what he thinks I’ll give him. I’m not like that. He should just get one of the little whores lined up for him to put out, cause I’m not ready for it. When I am, I want it to mean something,” Buffy informed her.
Willow sighed. It was useless trying to get through her skull. She knew that the only one that could fix this would be Spike, and he was probably with the guy’s right now, not giving a damn.
As if on cue, music started playing from outside, floating into her room through her open window.
“Buffy do you hear that?” Willow asked, getting up off of her bed.
“Yeah, it’s probably just someone with the radio on while doing yardwork,” Buffy said with depression in her tone as she played with the threads of her bedspread. She was lost in her own thoughts about Spike and where it went wrong.
Willow looked out the window and her eyes widened with shock. “I don’t think it’s just someone with the radio on,” Willow stated, “Buffy you should come see this…now.”
Buffy was reluctant, but eventually gave in sighing. She got up off of the bed and looked out the window. What she saw caused her to gasp quickly and her heartbeat quickens. Her eyes also widened in shock and a small blush crept to her cheeks.
Standing against the tree below her window, was Spike, holding none other than a black acoustic guitar. He gave her a small smile when his eyes met hers, and he noticed her watching. This song he wrote specially for her. He felt that words didn’t work for him, so maybe pouring his feelings into music and lyrics would work. Spike didn’t want to start singing until he got her attention. Now that he had it, he let the lyrics flow from his lips.
--- This romeo is bleeding
But you can’t see his blood
It’s nothing but some feelings
That this old dog kicked up
It’s been raining since you left me
Now I’m drowning in the flood
You see I’ve always been a fighter
But without you I give up---
Buffy couldn’t bring eye contact with him as he sang. His voice was deep and…perfect was the only word that seemed to be able to describe it. He held her in a deep trance, and for now, she didn’t want to leave.
---Now I can’t sing a love song
Like the way it’s meant to be
Well, I guess I’m not that good anymore
But baby, that’s just me
And I will love you, baby - always
And I’ll be there forever and a day - always
I’ll be there till the stars don’t shine
Till the heavens burst and
The words don’t rhyme
And I know when I die, you’ll be on my mind
And I’ll love you – always---
Tears popped to Buffy’s eyes as she heard the words being sung to her. Breaking eye contact with Spike, she glanced at Willow and saw tears in her eyes too. Buffy didn’t even bother to wipe the tears as their wall broke, and they flowed down her flushed cheeks. Quickly, she went back to staring at Spike, not wanting to miss a single word.
---Now your pictures that you left behind
Are just memories of a different life
Some that made us laugh, some that made us cry
One that made you have to say goodbye
What I’d give to run my fingers through your hair
To touch your lips, to hold you near
When you say your prayers try to understand
I’ve made mistakes, I’m just a man
Yeah, I will love you baby - always
And I’ll be there forever and a day - always
If you told me to cry for you
I could
If you told me to die for you
I would
Take a look at my face
There’s no price I won’t pay
To say these words to you
Well, there ain’t no luck
In these loaded dice
But baby if you give me just one more try
We can pack up our old dreams
And our old lives
We’ll find a place where the sun still shines
And I will love you, baby - always
And I’ll be there forever and a day - always
I’ll be there till the stars don’t shine
Till the heavens burst and
The words don’t rhyme
And I know when I die, you’ll be on my mind
And I’ll love you – always---
Spike strummed out the last few beats on his guitar. When the song was over, he was still looking at Buffy’s window. Clapping was heard from around him, and he looked toward Buffy’s front yard. He whipped his head around and noticed that he apparently attracted quite a crowd with his soothing voice and great guitar playing. Giving a polite wave and a sexy smirk, Spike turned back up to Buffy’s window, and noticed that neither Willow nor her was there.
---
Willow stayed in Buffy’s room as Buffy ran down the stairs to go outside. She figured the two needed a little time alone to work things out.
Buffy ran downstairs and out the door. “Spike?” She timidly called, standing on the front porch. The crowd had left, so her yard was pretty much back to normal.
Spike’s head jerked towards the front yard when he heard her sweet voice call to him. He had yet to move from his spot on the tree, because he hoped Buffy would return.
Quickly jogging around to the front, he smiled at Buffy standing there. She looked so fragile with her arms wrapped around body, but she looked like his beautiful golden goddess. The way that the sun shone on her at this angle, made her look like she was glowing.
“Hey pet,” He greeted her, standing on the sidewalk, not wanting to push her by climbing the steps.
“Hi Spike. Why…why did you do that?” Buffy asked him.
“Luv, incase you didn’t get it from the song. I love you. I wrote that song to put into words how I feel. I guess it didn’t work,” Spike explained.
“No it did. I just, it wasn’t expected,” Buffy told him truthfully.
“What can I say? I’m a surprise in itself,” Spike smirked.
Buffy smiled shyly. She moved down to steps and sat on the second one. Spike took his chance, and carefully sat down next to her, leaving a good amount of space between the two of them.
After a few minutes of silence, Buffy finally broke it, “So you wrote that song just for me?”
“Yeah, I wanted to sing it to you, just not under these circumstances. Buffy, you have no idea how sorry I am. I know I mucked it all up real bad, but I would do anything to make it up to you,” Spike apologized.
“That was an amazing song. Sweet. You have a great voice too,” Buffy complimented him.
Spike sighed, knowing she was just ignoring the subject. “Summers, you do realize that I’m sor-,”
“Don’t,” Buffy cut him off. “I know you’re sorry Spike. It’s just, it hurt me so much. I thought you were okay that I wasn’t…that I wasn’t like…that.”
“I know you aren’t Buffy! I don’t know what came over me luv. If I could take back any sodding thing in my life, it would be that,” Spike said exasperatedly.
“Spike, I just…I just don’t know if we work. Maybe we aren’t meant to me. All we seem to do is hurt each other,” Buffy said quietly.
“Buffy, luv, you don’t mean that. You know I love you. I’d do anything for you,” Spike assured her, slowly strumming his guitar.
“Please don’t make this any harder than it is,” Buffy asked of him, finally looking at him. All he saw in her tear-filled eyes were swirls of pain, regret, and a little bit of fear.
Spike sighed. He knew that it was no use to push the matter. “Well pet, I best better be going then, because it is obvious that you don’t want me here.” He grabbed her hand and kissed it lightly on the knuckles. “I just want you to know how sorry I am and that I love you.”
Not giving her a chance to respond, Spike walked down the remaining step and then the sidewalk, guitar in hand. Giving her one last look when he reached the street, he practically begged her to call after him. He continued walking when she didn’t.
---
Buffy walked back into her room slowly, her body trembling with sobs.
“Oh sweetie,” Willow got up and hugged her. “That bad?”
“Worse,” Buffy sniffled.
“Didn’t he want you two to be an item again?” Willow questioned.
“Yes,” Buffy answered.
They broke apart and Willow just looked at her. “Then what went wrong…oh. You didn’t want to?”
“No. I’m just…I’m so afraid right now. I don’t want to be hurt again,” Buffy admitted.
“Honey,” Willow told her grabbing her into a hug again.
Buffy put her head on Willow’s shoulder and sobbed, “I feel like I can’t breathe, Will.”
Willow just patted Buffy on the back, not knowing what to do. Why were they hurting each other and themselves when they both wanted the same thing?
Glancing at the clock, Buffy noticed that Willow should be at Thunder Road by now. “Willow, it’s okay, you can go,” Buffy told her.
“No Buffy, don’t even worry about it,” Willow told her.
“Willow, go,” Buffy ordered her, getting out of her embrace and wiping her eyes.
“Are you sure honey?” Willow asked.
“Positive,” Buffy smiled.
“Come with me!” Willow offered.
“No, I haven’t changed my mind, I don’t feel like going,” Buffy told her.
“Okay, well, I’ll call you when it’s over, and tell you who won,” Willow promised, heading toward Buffy’s door.
“Okay, thank you,” Buffy thanked her, and watched as Willow made her way into the hallway and showed herself the way out.
As soon as she heard the front door close, she let sobs consume her body once again.

TBC!
A/N: I know it was a nice short chapter, but I had to get his apology out of the way. And most of you have complained about Buffy getting mistreated constantly by Spike, so I’m not going to just let her forgive him instantly. Tomorrow I’ll try to get out another chapter, with Spike/Angel’s pact and Thunder Road. Stay tuned and read and review!
Oh, and the song is "Always--Bon Jovi", but for my story's sake, Spike wrote it for Buffy. ;)
