Truth Be Told: Truth Be Told
by Livya
“Wait! Please!!” He shouted as if this was the only thing that mattered. And at that moment, it was. “I… I love you!” The words seemed to spill out of his mouth. Once they started, they didn’t stop. “I do! I really do! Will, I love you so much! I can’t live without you in my life. I need you here with me! Please!”
She stopped. Biting her lip to keep from screaming, she heard the one person she had ever truly loved tell her she loved her back. It was the most amazing feeling in the world. But what could she say? That she still loved him? Of course she did. That she wanted to work things out? Of course she wanted to. That she forgave him?
He saw her stop. His heart started to beat a little faster. His eyes sparkled a little brighter. His smile grew just a little wider. It was hope. Hope that she would turn around and run into his open arms. Hope that they could work everything out. Hope that she could fall in love with him again.
She knew it now. She knew she needed him. Needed to be with him in everything she did. To cry with him at old romances. To laugh with him at silly jokes. To feel his lips on hers. To have him with her when she needed him most. But could she do that? To herself, to her friends and family who had helped her through the last months? The hardest of her life. But, in one crystal clear moment, she realised. She had to try.
“I’m not trying to make excuses for what I did… I… I just can’t think of my life without you in it” He was crying by this time. “Without you ordering me to cook you breakfast at four o’clock in the morning! Without you ruining my pillows with tears after watching a stupid sad movie! Without… without you laughing at me trying hopelessly to chase vampires when they get away!” He was pouring out his heart to the one and only woman he had ever loved in his entire life. Would she ever listen? Would she ever realise how much he loved her?
“Truth be told, I… I… I love you too. I do. But I just… Oh God.” Her tears tasted salty against the rain. “I love you so much, Xander. I just, I don’t know if I could do it all again. How do I know you won’t just hurt me again? You hurt me so badly.”
“I know! I know I did, and I’ll never forgive myself for that. But I want you… Need you – so much! I… I don’t know what else to say! Can’t we just… just… give us a chance? I love you so much. I’ve loved you from the minute I saw you!” And it was true. He could feel it with every bit of his body. Every inch of him was buzzing at the thought of being close to her again. Holding her. Kissing her…
“I want to, I really do, and I love you too. I just… I just…” And she turned around.
As she turned around, he saw her beautifully deep eyes filled with tears. As they rolled down her baby pink cheeks, and softly splash to the floor, he felt his heart reach out to her. He hated seeing her in pain. It made him just want to race over to her, and hold her close in his arms. And, ever so softly, he whispered a question that could destroy him forever.
“Can we try?”
She didn’t say anything. She didn’t know what to say. But she knew the answer she had to give him. She’d always known.
The silence was killing him. Here he was, staring right into her sparkling hazel eyes, and yet not being able to reach out and touch her. He needed her to answer him. And he needed the answer that wouldn’t tear him into shreds inside.
One foot in front of the other – she began to walk. Closer and closer towards her happiness. Her joy. Her love. She was still transfixed by his deep brown eyes, frantically searching hers for an answer – any answer. And finally, after what seemed like minutes, she was standing close, so close, to the man that held her heart. And she gave him an answer.
