Her presence is missing
I wake in the night,
She slips through the window
And moves out of sight.

She teases and taunts
Dancing with grace,
From a whispering caress
To a frolicking pace.

She propels grey clouds
Threatening to spill,
Rolling and billowing
No longer still.

With a cool gust she welcomes
The constant chatter,
The sharp staccato
Of pitter, patter.

Talkative raindrops
Confer with the grass,
Torment my roof
And screech at the glass.

Now at full fury
She whips and she weaves,
Carelessly tearing
Leaves from the trees.

She causes confusion
Possesses great power,
Creating disaster
For over an hour.

Suddenly it ends
She comes to a rest,
Leaving her trail of
Destruction, distress.

She seeps through my keyhole
To the foot of my bed,
And curls up to sleep
Resting her head.


Memories fade
But the rage is reborn,
As the wind takes her flight
Every January storm.
