A Blast from the Past: Part 1
by Jannah
A young girl walks into the airport as she descends her plane. Around her people are rushing to meet their flights. She spots several good-looking guys and thinks 'I do need a boyfriend.' she shakes her head, as if to clear it. 'Remember' she thinks 'You are in Sunnydale for one reason only. Revenge. On Angelus.'
::Mrs. Summers narrating:: It was when Jannah, a relative of an old friend of mine, decided to move to Sunnydale that a course of strange and unexpected events began. Buffy was already seriously disturbed, and was constant calling out to "Angel" in her dreams. I couldn't figure out what was wrong, and I was afraid that if I mentioned it things would only get worse.
When I first saw Jannah that day, she had a sour look on her face. She then noticed me and ran over to meet me.
"Mrs. Summers, its nice to finally meet you!!" she exclaimed, clearly enthusiastic.
"Nice to meet you too, dear." I replied calmly. "You must be tired. Lets get you over to our place."
::Buffy's journal:: So Angel is evil now. So he isn't there for me anymore. I am SO stupid for even thinking for a minute that I could actually have had a life with him. Xander was right.
On top of everything, it feels like its all my fault. I'm the Slayer. I should have stopped the whole thing. But, no. For once in my life I made a stupid, irresponsible decision. And it ruins my whole life. I mean, I loved him. Or did I? Why didn't I stop when he said too? If I did, he might still be alive.
I HATE being the Slayer.
Oh, yeah. As for new stuff in my life, my mom's old friend's relative is coming to live with us. Her name's Jannah. mom told me she likes being called Jen. I wonder what she's like.
::Jannah narrating:: Mrs. Summers seemed like a nice person. But I was really wondering about Buffy. She was my link to the world here. She would help find who I needed to find. For so long revenge was all that mattered to me. Finally, vengeance was mine.
I have this strange power that would make it easier for me to find the Slayer. I can read people personalities. Not minds personalities. Like their auras. What they are. Mrs. Summers had a mother's aura. A slayer would have a Slayers' aura, and a Watcher would have a Watcher's aura.
So, when I walked onto the house and sensed the Slayer's aura, I had a strange feeling. Normally I can comprehend my feelings, so why couldn't comprehend this one? It was too strange.
I sat down on the kitchen table to ponder all of this.
When Buffy walked into the kitchen, I knew at once why I had felt the Slayer's presence in this house.
She was the Slayer.
::Buffy narrating:: From the moment I saw Jen, I had a strange feeling about her. I can't explain it. It as just a feeling, you know.
So when Mom asked me to show her the house while she made dinner, I gladly did. I wanted to talk to her.
We went up to my room and sat down.
"So Jen..." this was turning into the awkward silence thing..
Until she broke it ... with a very strange question. Actually, it was more of an "I know all about you" statement in question form.
"Buffy, are you the Slayer?"
"Umm what are you talking about? You mean like vampires and stuff? That's ridiculous." (I am such a bad liar!!)
"Don't play games. I can sense your aura. And you are not going to even bother to lie. Because I've been looking for you too long."
"Looking for me?" ((Soon the whole world would know. They might as well print it in newspapers "Buffy, the Vampire Slayer!! Come an' get it!!"))
"Long story. Listen, I need to speak to you Watcher."
"Giles? Why Giles? Why not me?" This was insulting. I'm the Slayer remember?
"Giles? Rupert Giles? Oh, I'll be working with him anyway."
"Umm, answer my question. And what do you mean working with him?"
"Well, your Watcher would have a better background on vampires in this area. Like the notorious ones. And I took a job working with him. Assistant librarian."
"I know about the vamps. Assistant librarian? How dull!"
"Well the pay's good. You sure you know enough about the vamps in this area? So can I ask you a few ?'s and get straight answers."
"Yup. But first I would like to know why."
"Okay. It's the old I'm seeking revenge on a certain vampire for various reasons."
"Well, I think I should check with Giles first. Before answering your questions."
"Fine. Give him a call."
"Umm we'll go there. After dinner. I think he would be VERY interested in this."
**
::Jen narrating:: After dinner Buffy insisted that we go meet Giles. I don't why she made a whole big thing out of it, because she could have just called him. But I figured that, hey, maybe she's just not that kind of person. Maybe she's a little different from everyone else. I mean, she is the Slayer.
But we arrived at Giles apartment. She greeted him and introduced me. She explained what my need was and then it was my turn to play 20 questions. Giles drilled me for information on everything -- age, name, etc. You get the point. Then he asked the question I'd known would come eventually.
"So, Jannah, who is it exactly u need revenge on?"
"Well, I've been researching this a lot in the last few years, and I think that I'm pretty sure -- Angelus?"
Suddenly Buffy got a look on her face, it was just unreadable. Then, like a zap, a had a vision. that happens on occasion, but I have no control over it. Reality faded away, and I entered a dreamlike state. I saw Buffy -- and Angelus!! Together. Like I Love You close.
The vision faded away, and I realized what had happened. Buffy loved him.
"Buffy, Ohmigod, I'm so sorry!! He crossed over to good?" I said, frantically.
"Yes," said Giles cautiously. "And back again. He and Buffy were well close. We can discuss this later. But how did, so suddenly u know he crossed over?"
"I had a vision. It happens sometimes." I said indifferently, more interested in why he wanted to discuss it later.
"Giles," aid Buffy, unsteadily. "I can handle this."
"Are you sure, Buffy? Angel was very cruel before he crossed over." said Giles, purely out of concern for her.
"More cruel that now?" Buffy retorted sarcastically. "I haven't killed myself yet. Its over now."
"So, am I quiet or talking?" I said, frustrated.
"Well," said Giles, sighing, "I suppose it is a nessicity to know what happened."
"Okay, I was four and he killed my entire family except my sister who eventually went insane because he was stalking her and killed herself. Not bad, really compared to other things he did."
Buffy sighed heavily. She loved him a lot.
"Buffy," I said cautiously, "when I told you I knew you were the Slayer, you gave me a reaction like a lot of other people knew. Not too many I hope."
"Only 6, not including the Vamps. One is Giles. Now its seven, cause you're here."
"So, I am assuming I choose the wrong time for revenge. Well, no problem. I'll make him good again."
When Buffy heard this, she totally freaked out. "Make him good again?!?! How? You know how?!?!?! Thank you so much!!"
"Whoa, chill out! I might. It's going to take a long time. We have to be very subtle."
Giles cleared his throat (a sure sign of insecurity) and said to me, "According to my research, there is no possible way to curse him again."
"First, you have been researching the wrong places then. This Master of the Mental Arts and Warrior Science know exactly where to look. Second, who said anything about a curse?"
"Mental arts and Warrior Science?"
"I have spent most of my life in India, studying Metal Arts with my mentor, Sanjay, a Buddhist monk, and in Japan, learning the Warrior Science from Kaioh Yun-soo, my teacher. only if you have the Utmost faith in the Great Unseen can you learn these things. It requires extreme mental concentration, and only the strongest minds can handle it. The others go crazy trying."
"Well, " said Giles. "Then you will be of great help to us."
Buffy, was still in shock. "Does this mean I don't have to kill him?" she said dreamily.
"Buffy, don't get your hopes up. And yes, you won't have to kill him. Just fight him off for awhile."
"What do you mean?" she replied confusedly.
I tried not to get frustrated with her since she was (obviously) in much pain. "Buffy, the process will have to be slow and very subtle. It will also, "I said directing this part of the comment at Giles, "require the sacrifice of a life of one who knows about Buffy being the Slayer."
"Meaning..." said Giles, clearly confused.
"Meaning one of us 7 who know."
"Why?"
"All I know about humanity revival is what Sanjay and Yun-soo taught me. I don't know the specifics. I will first have to contact one of them which in itself can take time. Neither of them believe in the telephone."
"Oh, my." said Giles, clearly subdued.
"How long?" said Buffy, hoping for the best.
"A few months to a year. Anything's possible."
"What about the life sacrifice?" asked Giles.
"We'll cross that bridge when we come to it. Right know, I think I should go home and rest. I am jet-lagged. I flew in form Korea you know."
"Yes, well, be careful on your way home. Buffy, have you a stake? You know Angel will first want to destroy the things that made him most human. you being number one on that list."
"Giles, you have only told me a thousand times. I can handle it!!"
We left and me and Buffy started walking home in the coldness of the night."
***
::Jen narrating::
As we walked home that night, a bond formed between me and Buffy. A bond that would last forever, through the most dark of times and the times that were about to descend upon us, which I would like to refer to as the times of eternal night. That evening, while we were walking home, I heard Buffy sobbing quietly and whispering to herself, Angel "One day Angel, one day..."
I heard a footstep. I small, almost unhearable footstep. But being trained as a Warrior, I heard. I told Buffy to get her stake out, and shut up. She immediately did so, probably confused. I called, "Angelus of the Night, make yourself visible. I can sense you and forever will I seek my revenge."
"Well, its about time you showed up Buffy." Whose your friend." said a cold, lifeless voice from the bushes. It was, as I feared, Angelus."
"Angelus," I whispered hoarsely. "Angelus," I called, louder and more steady, "Come and face your match.
Angel stepped out. "Who is my match exactly? I always thought it would be HER," he said referring to the now in tears Slayer, "But its not. She was so foolish, I don't want to even get into the things she did."
At this last commented Buffy sobbed loudly. "I hate you Angel. I HATE you!! I will get you, when the time is here!!"
"Yeah right," said Angel sarcastically. "I love you, too. So, babe, whose my match?'
"She's right in your face." I said ironically. "Amazing how living in night all the times make you so blind."
"Oh really? May I know the name of my match?"
"Are you honestly telling me you don't remember? The only one who could resist your strength? Jannah, is my name, Angel. And I AM is your match."
"So prove it."
"The time is not right, if you want a fight. I can prove my mental strength though." I began chanting. "I bind you Angel of the Night, I bind you from doing harm unto the Slayer and her people, I bind you. I bind you Angel of the Night, I bind you from doing harm unto the Slayer and her people, I bind you. I bind you. I bind you. I bind you Angel of the Night. I bind you."
"And that meant??..."
"Kill me, Angel. Try. Can you? I bet you can't."
"What are you talking about?"
"I bound you. From hurting us. C'mon Buffy, lets get out of here."
And, for some reason, Angel let us go. He was probably creeped out by what I just did. I don't blame him. It creeped me out, too.
We got home safely.
::Buffy narrating::
When me and Jen got home, I had a lot of questions for her.
"What did you do to Angel?"
"I bound him from harming people."
"All people?"
"No, just you and your people."
"Meaning??..."
"You and every one who knows about you."
"Oh."
Silence over came. We went upstairs and Jen asked "Buffy, can I sleep in your room? I'm feeling majorly creeped out?" This was the first time I got the feeling we would become as close as sisters.
"Sure."
I went into the shower and came out to find Jen in some strange ritual.
"WHAT are you doing?"
She didn't reply. She sat there, like she was in some other world or something. Then she began chanting the same thing again. "I bind you Angel of the Night, I bind you from doing harm unto the Slayer and her people, I bind you. I bind you Angel of the Night, I bind you from doing harm unto the Slayer and her people, I bind you. I bind you. I bind you. I bind you Angel of the Night. I bind you." Then she finally recognized that I was there. "Do you have a cross? A small one. And a picture of Angel?"
"What for?"
"To complete the binding."
"Okay, hold on." I produce a cross and my most disgusting picture of Angel.
She took them from my hands and smiled. She placed the cross over the picture and chanting again. "I bind you Angel of the Night, I bind you from doing harm unto the Slayer and her people, I bind you. I bind you Angel of the Night, I bind you from doing harm unto the Slayer and her people, I bind you. I bind you. I bind you. I bind you Angel of the Night. I bind you." Then the freakiest thing happened. The cross burned through the picture, producing PURPLE smoke!!
"Whoa." I said, amazed and scared at the same time.
"If I frightened you, sorry. Purple smoke means that I have bound him from hurting a group of people. Green means one person. Gray means the binding didn't work."
"Well..."
"I think we both need some rest. Today's events were ... thoroughly exhausting."
"Yeah."
I tucked into my covers. Jen, tucked into her make-shift bed of blankets and pillows.
"G'nite Buffy."
"Good night Jen."
* * *
Something woke me up. I just woke up in time to here Buffy stirring. "Angel ... Where are you Angel?" she whispered hoarsely. She stood up and walked over to her dresser.
"Buffy? Are you okay?"
"Angel .." she said. She was sleep walking. she opened up a box and took out a ring. She placed it on her right ring finger. "I need you Angel. Make me one of you. Please?"
Then just as quickly as it happened it stopped. She went quietly back to bed. I sat there, gawking. What had just happened? I realized what Buffy wanted. Subconsciously of course, but either way she wanted it. Angel.
And to become a Vampire.
****
After what happened, I didn't think I would be able to sleep. I was wrong. I fell asleep. And I dreamed. Or, more appropriately, night-mared.
< dream sequence > > "Jannah, I can't believe your getting married tomorrow!!"
"I know Syria. I can't believe I'll never sleep in this house again."
"I'm going to miss you."
"Stop it little sister. I think I'm going to cry"
((a scream is heard coming from the parents bedroom))
"Syria, hide. I'll go find out what's going on."
Jannah runs to her parents bedroom and spots two dead bodies -- her parents! Suddenly a dark figure comes up behind her and grabs her. She manages to pull away, surprising her attacker.
"Who are you? What do you want?"
"I am Angelus. And I want a drink. Look at your pretty little neck!!"
Jannah kicks him, hard, where it hurts. She knows its a vampire and looks around for a makeshift stake." When she looks back, though, Angelus is gone. His words, though echo through the night.
"You're not safe for long ... long ... long ..."
((fades out to a tossing and turning Jen. She murmurs in her sleep "Revenge .. Revenge." Return to dream sequence.))
>
Jannah raises her hands over her head and calls out,
"I call upon the powers of the Sun, Moon, and Earth, the protectors of Life and the eliminators of evil. I call upon your powers to help me avenge the death of my family and to seek my revenge upon Angelus, of the Vampires. Forever will I live, until he meets his death!"
A bolt of lightning cracks through the sky and strikes Jannah.
((Jannah wakes up, perspiring and shaking))
::at Spike and Drusilla's:: ::narrator::
Drusilla falls to the ground and murmurs - "She's here."
Spike - "Drusilla, who's here?"
Dru - "Heaven. She's strong. She's going to hurt us. Spike, I'm scared."
Spike - "Heaven? She's strong?"
Angel walks in. - "What's going on?"
Spike- "Dru's having a vision. About some one named Heaven. Supposedly she's strong and going to hurt us."
Dru - "Angel ... Angel can't hurt her. She stopped him from hurting her. Or the Slayer."
Angel - "Oh, you mean that Jannah girl. She was for real?"
Spike - "What happened tonight while you were hunting anyway?"
Angel - "Oh, I got real lucky. I ran into the Slayer and she had this girl with her, Jannah. Apparently, she has been seeking revenge, but I don't remember her name or face. She said she was my match and started chanting something about being bound from harming the Slayer and her people. She challenged me to kill her but I couldn't. I was paralyzed or something. Then she took Buffy and walked away. It was the weirdest thing. Later on, I felt a pain in my chest, and looked down to see a small cross seared below my collar bone."
Dru - "She cursed you. And hurt you. I want to see the hurt."
She walks over to Angel and looks at the burned-in cross. She gently runs her fingers over it and says, "I'm scared Angel, I'm scared." Meanwhile, Spike is turning green with envy.
