Simplicity: Simplicity

You're not supposed
to fall in love
with your best friend.
I think there's a rule
against such a thing.
Yet here I am,
and here I stand,
going neither
foreward nor backward.
My head screams no,
and my heart whispers yes,
and between the two,
I'm getting rather confused.
Why can't things be simpler?
