Chapter 4

Angel was lying on the ground. His legs punctured from the spines that had jutted out of the demons legs. In pain Angel rose up from the ground and struggled back to his warehouse. After every step he could feel the bones in his body trying to mend. He was beaten by a demon. That doesn’t usually happen-that wasn’t meant to happen! Angel had to hurry; the sunrise was 30 minutes away.

Buffy was dialling the number for the new Slayer’s academy that Giles, Willow, Kennedy and most of world’s slayers were. She had let it ring awhile when Willow picked up.

‘Hello. Willow speaking!’ Willow said joyfully. Buffy could almost hear her smiling.

‘Hey Will, it’s me,’ Buffy said, she had only phoned last week but it felt like ages ago.

‘Hey, Buffy, everything still ok in L.A.?’

‘Well, actually, no! Demon. Could do with some researching Rosenberg-style.’

‘Really!’ Willow sounded overjoyed, 'I mean sorry. Over excitement. I’ll get on it straight away. Give me details!’

‘Tall, green, bony, strong and NOT good!’

‘Ok, well, do you want us to send some back-up in? We’ve got some girls that are doing really well!’

‘No, it’s ok. If I need them, I’ll phone you right away!’

Willow had just gotten off the phone with Buffy. She was worried that her best friend was in severe danger and didn’t want to ask for help. She had to research this demon quickly.

‘Giles! I need the computer!’

‘I’m sorry, Willow, but I’m speaking to my friends in Bath. The Internet is amazing!’ Giles said, typing away on the laptop keyboard.

‘Giles, I need it NOW! Buffy needs me to research something!’

‘Is Buffy ok? Is this thing big? Can I go help?’ Kennedy walked into the study.

‘She’s fine... for now but we need to research this demon quick.’

‘Ok, Willow, you can use the computer, and Kennedy and I will get on to books!’

‘Research! Me?! But I’m a slayer!’ Kennedy said, wanting to do fists not books.

‘I know, Ken, but we have to research it first, so come on let’s go!’ Willow said.

Twenty minutes after getting off the ground Angel was only halfway to his warehouse. He wouldn't manage to get back in time, and there were no buildings around where he could go. What was he going to do? He could smell the sunrise before any human-so he knew the smell of death! Angel saw a place next to the local bar where he could possibly stay out of sunlight.

‘Well it’s my only chance,’ Angel said, struggling to one of the beer kegs and sitting down

Buffy walked back through to the living room where Xander and her sister were now surrounded by huge thick books.

‘Xander, found anything yet?’ Buffy asked

‘Yeah, a whole lot of nothing!’ Xander replied

‘Me too Buffy! Sorry,’ Dawn said,

‘It’s ok! You guys keep going, and I’m gonna go try to find this thing,’ Buffy said. Grabbing her coat and heading out the door.

‘Do *you* think she’s gonna look for the demon?’ Dawn asked Xander, doubting that her sister was gonna search for the demon.

‘Dead boy better be ready. Emotions will be high,’
