Resurrection: Part Three

by BuffyT

That night Buffy was at the Bronze with Willow and Xander. She was bubbly and happy, the polar opposite of what she had been the night before.

"They're gonna make him human again! Isn't that wonderful?" An exited Buffy told Willow.

"That's great, Buffy!" said Willow.

"Yeah, that's great." said Xander, trying to be exited for his friend. "I'm glad you'll finally have lover-boy back." Xander hid behind his drink, not wanting Buffy to see his disappointment.

"Oh look! There's Oz! When you get Angel back, we'll have to double-date!" Willow said, looking at the band, which was taking a break. After her last comment, both Willow and Buffy looked over at Xander who was sitting quietly and alone across the table. Willow went over to dance with Oz.

"Don't worry Xander," Buffy said. "You'll find someone."

"Sure." he responded, not seeming that sure.

"Wanna dance?"

"Sure!" Xander said, a lot surer. They went to the dance floor and slow-danced to the music. "You're really exited about this, huh?"

"I'm giddy," Buffy said with a wide smile. "It'll be so great to have him back...you know what it's like to love someone so much you have to be with them or you know you'll die? That's where we kissed," said Buffy, pointing to the doorway. "That's where he saved my life. One of the many times." Buffy snapped out of her dream world and saw Xander looking very lost. "I'm sorry, I'm gushing, it's just..."

"It's okay." said Xander. "I'm happy for you."

"Thanks." Buffy said. She gave him a big hug. "I'm so glad I have a friend like you." Xander gave a weak smile and hugged her tightly back.

That night Buffy was asleep and she started to dream. In her dream she saw Angel, looking handsome as always, holding the ring he had given her in an outstretched hand.

"Don't worry Buffy," the dream Angel told her. "We'll be together soon." He put the ring on her finger. All of a sudden he changed into his game face. "But first I have to kill you." He leaned in to bite her neck.

Buffy awoke with a start, a little disturbed. She looked down at her finger and saw the ring safe and sound. She decided to think no more of the the dream, and with one last thought of Angel, fell asleep again.

The days until saturday passed very slowly for Buffy. Dreams of Angel filled her head. Fridays afternoon dragged by. At the end of the day Giles took some of her blood for Angelus to suck instead of her neck when he was in his weakened vampire state.

Finally saturday came. Everyone met in the library that evening, the blood bag and ceramic urn holding Angel's ashes sitting on the table.

"Everyone ready?" asked Ms. Calendar.

"As ready as ever," said Buffy, who was trying to keep her excitement under wraps.

"So Angelus will drink from the blood bag and then you'll turn him human, right?" Willow asked.

"That is correct," said Giles. "Ms. Calendar, would you remove the top from that urn please?" Ms. Calendar did. Giles looked into his book and muttered some foreign words under his breath. As he said the words his voice grew stronger and the dust rose from the urn and began circling it like a tornado. Giles came to the end of the spell and looked up. There on the table lay Angelus. All eyes watched as he weakly reached over and grabbed the blood bag and began to suck.

Ms. Calendar readied her spell book as Angelus slurped the slayer's blood. When he had drained it completely, he threw it to the floor, his game face on. With his newfound strength he growled and ran at Buffy, on his way knocking the spell book out of Ms. Calendars arms. Buffy could not react fast enough, and her weakly placed punch did nothing to stop him. Willow tried to intervene and tear him off her friend, but Angelus kicked her across the room like a a rag doll. Xander rushed to Willow's side, and she sat up, dazed.

Giles and Ms. Calendar were rushing for the spell book, and once they got it, Ms. Calendar was searching for the page. Buffy was helpless as Angelus grabbed her and lowered his fangs to her neck.

"You're mine now," said Angelus as he sank his fangs into her flesh. The need for blood was too great for him to listen to good judgement. Everyone was frozen from shock and watched in horror as Buffy slowly began to collapse under him. Seeing that it was almost too late, Ms. Calendar scrambled for the page and began chanting the mystical words that would resurrect Angel. Buffy was now limp on the floor. With every word the computer teacher uttered, Angelus let out a yelp of pain. Ms. Calendar was almost done with the spell when Angelus screamed and ran at her. "Nooooo!!" he yelled. Ms. Calendar spoke the last word just as Angelus was about to reach her. With the last magic chant Angelus collapsed to the floor.

Xander and Giles rushed over to Buffy.

"There's still a pulse!" Xander told them. "She'll be okay." He sat down next her and stroked the hair from her face.

"Angel?" Buffy murmured, almost inaudible. Angel's head spun as he opened his eyes to her call, which to him was a loud voice breaking through the darkness.

"Buffy!" cried Angel as he sat up. He saw her lying there on the floor and realized what had just gone on. He crawled over to her. "oh God," he whispered, touching Buffy's cool cheek and checking her pulse. Xander stood up and retreated to Willow who was still sitting against the door. He put his arms around her and they watched the two lovebirds.

"Angel?" Buffy asked once again, a bit stronger.

"It's me. I'm here."

"Angel," Buffy breathed, opening her eyes and gazed at him hovering over her. With a burst of strength she sat up, but could not hold herself there. Angel caught her and she fell onto him. Buffy looked into his eyes and knew he was back.

"I love you." said Angel holding her to him. Giles and Ms. Calendar stood looking on. There were tears in Giles' eyes when he saw the purely happy look on Buffy's face. Still holding onto each other, Buffy and Angel collapsed to the floor.
