Welcome Home?: Part Two

Everyone gasped. There was Buffy. A little older, a little thinner, and brown-haired, but it was Buffy. Buffy with a guilty looking Drusilla, and a smug looking Whistler...but that was how he always looked.

Everyone slowly started to defrost, but Willow was the first. She ran to her best friend and enveloped her in a hug. Buffy started to cry. “I wanted to call!” she sobbed. “I really, really did!”

“We forgive you!” Xander cried as he ran to her, followed by Cordelia and Oz.

“Loving the hair, Buffy!” Cordelia cried.

“Group hug!” Buffy cried. She noticed Giles, still not seeing Angel and Jessica. “C’mere you tweed-clad Watcher you!” Giles did so. Everyone moved back as slayer and Watcher were reunited. “My dear girl, “he murmured.

“I missed you too, G-man.” She smiled.

He pulled away and cocked his head, an indignant look on his face. “Do *not* call me that!” Buffy giggled and looked around once more noticing Jessica for the first time.

“Who the—“ she cut herself off as she stared at the person beside Jessica. Make that, vampire beside Jessica. She trembled slightly.

“Angel?” she whispered. He looked at her, a number of emotions playing on his face. Love, sadness, guilt, and a little remorse. Not betrayal, she noticed. Not the tiniest hint of betrayal. She started to cry, silent tears making their way down her cheeks. Angel moved to comfort her, but Jessica hooked her arm through his, discreetly holding him in place. Buffy looked at him, then at Jessica, then at their entwined arms and whispered a tiny, little, “Oh”. She nodded as if accepting, although she was far from it. She turned to Giles. She swallowed a sob, wiped her tears, and said, “So, who’s the new chick?” as nonchalantly as possible.

“Uh, um, th-that’s Jessica, the new slayer. Kendra’s, Kendra’s, uh…” he trailed off, looking at Drusilla.

“Replacement”, she finished, sadly.

“It wasn’t you, “ Buffy reassured her. She looked at Angel, straight into his eyes, straight into his soul. “It wasn’t you.”
