A New Beginning: Part Four

Buffy's House

"...must become what she hates most."

Buffy overheard everything they had said. < A vampire? A Vampire? Is that what I have to become to save him? To bring him back to me? But what about me? What will happen to me? Will a demon take over my body? Will my soul stay intact? Will I have to spend the rest of my life fighting myself? > Her head was swarming with questions to ask.

All of a sudden she started to laugh, "A VAMPIRE! Oh this'll be fun! Drinking blood! DYING AGAIN!"

Everyone looked up started. Willow got up to comfort her, "It's going to be alright. We'll find another way."

"You won't be able to. It's a feeling I have. This, apparently to my gut, is the only way," said Buffy.

"I think he knows what will happen if you do become a vampire. So even if you do get him to bite you, you'll just die of blood lost," replied Giles.

"Don't worry. I'll figure something out."

"Buffy, you don't have to do this. We'll find another way," Giles was trying to persuade her not to do it.

"I told you! There is no other way!" Buffy said angrily.

"What will happen to her? I mean, there must be some exception for slayers." Willow needed to know that her friend wasn't going to turn into a blood-sucking fiend.

"I seriously don't know. No slayer has ever become a vampire. At least not to my knowledge or any of the watcher diaries. For all I know Buffy can't become a vampire because of her slayer nature. She might just turn into a vampire like everyone else. There are hundreds of possibilities," said Giles.

"Well, promise me this: If I let a demon take over, you guys have to do everything you can to kill me." Buffy said. Everyone looked reluctant to say that they would, "Promise me!"

"I promise." Giles knew his duty. He would not let his slayer down.

"I promise," Willow whispered. She wouldn't have the courage to kill her friend, but she would try. If she had to.

"I promise." Oz looked at Willow, concerned for her because this news was depressing.

"I'm not going to promise that. If I do, that means I'm going to have to hunt you down and kill you. I'm not going to waste my time on you!" said Cordelia.

"Promise!" Buffy said forcefully.

"Okay! I promise! Gees! Take a pill!"

"Xander?" Buffy looked into his eye pleading him to say he would. She saw the pain and the hurt this was causing him.

"I'm not going to kill you, Buffy." He said through his teeth. He was swarming with anger. He didn't want her to die. He loved her.

"Do it for me! Please! I don't want to risk hurting any one of you! Please, Xander! You guys mean too much to me!" She was begging him. "Please!"

"Okay! I promise, but I don't like it!"

"None of us do, but I can't live a normal slayer life with Angel like this. I don't have the heart to kill him." Buffy looked defeated by her flaw, her heart being too soft.

Sunnydale High Library

It was one hour before sunset and they were all preparing for the final face off. With Spike and Druscilla dead, they didn't have much to worry about. Xander, Giles and Oz were going to go with Buffy to hunt Angel down.

Buffy knew what she had to do and was going to do it, but if this didn't work, she was going to kill Angel, no matter the pain it would cause. She didn't want her friends to suffer any more. This was going to be their final battle. Either he died or she did.

Everyone was quiet. Buffy was placing stakes in all her secret hiding places. She had about ten on her. It was uncomfortable, but she was used to the excess baggage.

The three guys each had four stakes and Giles was bringing his bag of toys. Oz had a walkie-talkie so he could communicate with Willow while she was safe at Buffy's house. Cordelia and Ms. Calendar were driving, just in case any of them needed to get to the hospital.

Buffy looked out the window; "It's time!"

They all hugged her once and wished her luck.

"It's time to get Angel back!" said Buffy and she walked through the library doors.

Snyder was wondering what was happening. "Um... Miss Summers, why are you still on school property?"

Buffy glared at him and walked away. Snyder backed off.

Angel's Apartment

Angel just got out of the shower and was putting on his clothes.

Sunnydale Park

"Stop! You guys stay back here and I'll continue on to confront him. Remember, if any of you get hurt, call Willow and she'll send Cordy and Ms. Calendar to get you. I don't want you guys to get hurt, but try to keep some of them off me for a while. Now, I have a bone to pick." She walked away into the center of the park.

"Nice of you to join me on such a beautiful night. The moon shining......the stars twinkling." Angel came out of the shadows. He was holding a dead rose.

"Cut the chit chat and let's get this over with." Buffy wanted this done as quickly as possible.

He grinned, "Let's go."

Buffy lunged at him and punched him in the jaw. < I can't win. I have to let him bite me, but I have to make it convincing > They were exchanging kicks and punches. She punched him, he punched her. Back and forth. She kicked him hard a couple times and he slammed his head against hers making her lose her balance. He kicked her in the stomach and she fell backwards. She got up and he rushed her and knocked her down again. She hit her head on the ground and was dizzy.

"You are going to be delicious!" his vampire visage was already out and he sank his fangs into her neck. < I won! >

She could feel her life leaving her and she remembered what she had to do. "So are you." She had whispered, barely audible. With her last ounce of strength, she lifted her mouth to his neck and bit him as hard as she could. She tasted his blood and started to drink it. She was dying, but she had to do this to bring him back.

When her teeth sank into his neck, he realized what she was doing. He felt his soul returning and he screamed, "Noooo!"

His demon was destroyed and he fell to the ground

She ran out of strength and she collapsed on the ground. She had stopped breathing and her heart stopped beating. She was dead.

Sunnydale Park East Side

Xander, Oz, and Giles rushed to Buffy when they heard Angel's scream. They had killed the seven vampires that were sent against them.

When they got to her, she was on the ground and beside her was Angel.

"It worked," Giles whispered to himself.

Xander ran to Buffy and checked her pulse; "She's dead."
