The Balance: Part Two
by Care
"'The child bordering light and darkness shall return with new gifts to bestow them upon the newborn child of her closest friend. With the newborn, the child will right the balance between good and evil.'" Angel said solemnly, "'When the task is done, the newborn will be taken and be guarded by the child until they are needed again to restore the balance.'"
"You would never be able to see you're son again," Buffy whispered quietly.
"No!" Willow screamed, "How could you? You're my best friend. How could you take my son?"
"Believe me, Will, if I could do it without him I would, but it's his destiny. The powers that are now in me need to be passed to their rightful owner. If not, the world is doomed to be over run with demons and vampires."
"No! I won't let you! He's just a baby, how is he expected to save the world?" Willow said through tears.
"Because he has too," was the only explanation that Buffy gave.

Through it all, Oz just looked at Buffy quietly. Watching her eyes for the emotions that were in her.
He saw that she felt guilty in having to take his son, but she knew that she had to.
"You weren't going to tell us, were you?" Oz said quietly.
Buffy looked into his eyes and realized that he knew, "I wasn't going to. I came because they sent me. I stood at the door preparing myself to take him... but I couldn't. That's why Angel was able to sense me. I let my guard drop because I saw how much love this room held... I was going to leave."
"But what about the world? The balance?"
"Without him, I would have to face it on my own."
"Could you have stopped it?"
"No, but I would've died trying."

Giles looked up and mumbled a question, "Were you going to tell us after we realized you were here?"
"No," was the reply that Buffy gave.
"What about the power? You said you can't control it," Xander asked.
"I can't, but to save Willow and Oz the grief of losing their child, I'll just have to live with it. Either until it kills me or until I die stopping the evil." Buffy left the room after saying this.
She didn't want her friends' son to live through what she had to, but without him, Buffy didn't stand a chance against the evil.
