Hold Back Your Tears: Part 3
by Twig
"Buffy." Angel said gently. "Buffy. I understand what you're saying. But you're... the one. You're the Slayer of this generation. I know it must be hard for you. But you have to go on. Not all vampires are like me. True, there are exceptions. But those are rare. Most vampires are evil. They need to be destroy. No, the demons need to be destroyed. That way their souls could truly be free."
Buffy nodded. She understood her responsibility. She had to accept. She had to shake out of it. But the look in Spike's eyes would never leave her. That scene between him and the dying Drusilla would not be forgotten. Buffy wiped her face off.
"I understand." She whispered. Buffy closed her eyes and calmed herself. An alarm rang inside her. Buffy turned around, and found the peroxide blonde vampire at the entrance to the Library. He wasn't alone.
Buffy and co. were so caught up that they didn't notice Spike and his vampire friends' arrival. Big mistake. "You'll pay Slayer. In blood!" Fierce determination burnt in Spike's eyes. He would make her pay all right.
Buffy was caught unprepared and was almost overpowered. But she managed to find her backup stake and disposed one.
"One down," Buffy took an assessment on the room, "six to go."
Pretty soon, a major fight were underway. Again, (if you know my writing style) the details weren't very important. All vampires were taken care of, except for one.
"Idiots! Every last one of them."
"Good help is just so hard to find." Buffy cracked. But Buffy knew she couldn't bring herself to kill him. It was beyond her. Spike growled. And someone growled in return.
"Angel." Angel was transformed and ready. "You've really changed. I'm kinda disappointed cause I liked you. And now I'll 'ave to kill you." Spike turned his attention back to Buffy. "You killed Drusilla. I can never forgive that." Spike took a step closer to Buffy. "You know what, I take back my proposal and live up to my name. I'll torture you long and painfully before killing you." Buffy narrowed her eyes and tried to act cool. Spike smiled as an idea occurred to him. "Better yet. I'll turn you to what you hate most: one of us." That really knocked Buffy off and Spike took advantage.
I should mention now that most of the other Slayettes were predisposed. Aka, too fascinated by the show to help. All they could do was watch.
Buffy and Spike were evenly matched. Angel tried to help but Buffy would have nothing of it. It almost looked as if Spike was going to win until Angel intervened. He smashed a rather heavy looking volume on the side of Spike's head. He fell like so much timber. "Buffy now."
"I can't." Buffy finally admitted it.
"What?" Giles snapped out it.
"I can't. I can't kill him."
"But he'll just come back and try to take you. One day he'll succeed."
"I don't care. I can't. There has to be some other way."
"Why?" Ms. Calendar asked.
"I'm sorry. I can't take his life."
"Well since you've killed his love anyway. Killing him now will send him to her." Xander said. Willow elbowed him in the ribs fairly hard. Buffy pretended that she didn't hear that.
"I'll do it." Angel volunteered.
"No! There has to be some other way."
"But if Spike isn't slayed he'll come back again and again to try and kill you Buffy."
"Can't we make him forget that?" Buffy wished that she could forget too.
"I think we can." Ms. Calendar said.
"We can?" Willow asked, speaking for pretty much for the entire room. Ms. Calendar searched through her purse and came up with a small book. "We can cast a spell on Spike to make him forget that Buffy killed Drusilla."
"That seems like as good a plan as any." Giles approved.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Everyone started to prepare for the spell. Spike was unconscious throughout all this. Angel hit him pretty hard.
"Um, problem." Ms. Calendar looked a bit uncomfortable.
"What is it?"
"I can't cast the spell. For some strange reason, for the spell to work, it has to be cast by a virgin male." It took a bit for everyone to absorb that knowledge. Everyone turned to Xander.
"What are you looking at me for?"
"You are a virgin Xander." Willow pointed out.
"You don't have to say that out loud." Xander tried to defend himself. But it was obvious that he was to be the spellcaster. He spent a couple of minutes on the pronunciations and actions.
Everything was ready.
