Guardian Angel: Part 2

by Twig

"Darla! Oh how I miss you!" The Master Vamp cried out. It's been a week and a half since Darla has been vaporized by Angel. The Anointed One stepped up and comforted him.

"Do you really wish Darla to come back?" he asked with his strangely childlike and yet demonic voice.

"Yes. She was my favorite, and my best. After Angel of course." Master Vamp regretted the day when Angel turned. He was his best and now Angel has turned into a sentimental puppy.

"There is a way to bring Darla back."

"How?" The Anointed One whispered into the Vamp's ear and he grinned. "Darla, my beauty. You shall walk again."

A shrill scream echoed through the dark cavern. Darla, in her Catholic school-girl uniform, stepped out of the shadow.
"I live once again!" she yelled out. The Master Vamp smiled with delight. TAO (which stands for The Anointed One) walked up to Darla, she bent down and kissed his cheek. "I feel great. Lets do some damage."

"Wait. We will have enough of that later. Angel." TAO looked to the Master Vamp, "You told me that it was important for us to work together, function as a family. And yet Angel is roaming free, helping the slayer. You told me he was the best there was. Why is he like this now? Why isn't he helping out the family?" TAO asked.

"He took a gypsy girl and the elders punished him with a soul." Darla replied. She desired Angel to be at her side again, like it was so long ago. Now he was defending that slayer bitch.

"Why couldn't we take away that soul? Uncurse him."

"We just can't." Master Vamp replied.

"I have learnt enough. It is time to take charge." TAO spoke with grandeur. All the rest bowed, waiting for instructions. "Darla, keep a watch on the slayer. Do not do anything unless you really feel like it." Darla bowed and left. TAO turned to the Master Vamp. "If Angel truly is as vicious as you claim him to be, I do wish him to serve by my side. He would be an excellent commander. Do whatever you can to turn him. I want him back." TAO sat down and began playing with some rock. Master Vamp signaled some vampires in the back and they set off to do their work.

Darla, still angry over what happened before, sent four vampires to get Buffy. The four were strong and almost completely overpowered Buffy. Suddenly, a kick out of nowhere struck one of the four and thus freeing Buffy from their grasp. Buffy looked up, it was Angel.
"Thought you could use some help." Buffy would have said something in return but a vampire decided to pop up in front of her. She was so glad Angel showed up. He was still wearing that leather jacket, looking as gorgeous as ever. Angel and Buffy eventually sent the four packing.

Before Buffy could get a chance to thank Angel, he was gone.

"Damn!" Buffy wanted to wrap her arms around him so badly. She turned around and walked back home.

"ANGEL!!!!" Darla screamed out after destroying the four that failed. "Traitor! You have betrayed us for the last time. Mark my word, I will kill that bitch and claim you as mine forever!"

The next day, Buffy visited Giles and was told the good news.
"I went back to the central library and found it. Michelle did leave her method after all. According to it, it is actually quite simple. So simple that no one realized it. As long as the vampire is willing, this will work. But this requires something we don't have. A crystal."

"What kind of crystal?" Buffy was curious and excited at the same time.

"A special piece of rose quartz which will entrap the demon." Giles spent the next hour explaining the concept to Buffy. She kinda understood, the main thing was, there was a way to bring Angel back.

"Anointed One. It appears that the slayer has found a way to turn us back." Darla reported. TAO only smiled.
"This will give us the perfect opportunity to bring Angel back." He explained his plan to Darla, and prepared to set it off into motion as soon as Buffy makes her next move.

Buffy waited for Angel to make his next appearance. She needed to tell him of her plan. Buffy knew that Angel would be willing to change, she just knew it. Now, if he would just show up.
Buffy, right now, was seated on a stool in the Bronze. Xander sat next to her, unusually quiet. Willow was next to him, sipping a diet coke. Buffy didn't notice that Xander jumped in his seat and that Willow almost choked on her coke.

A gentle tap on Buffy's shoulder called her attention. She turned, and saw Darla. Buffy almost screamed.

"But... you are dead. Angel..."

"Angel didn't do as good a job as he thought." Darla grinned at Buffy. "I'm here to give you a warning. Stay away from Angel. He's mine. You mess with my property, well, you know what will happen." From her tone of voice, it was more a threat than a warning. Buffy felt a rush of anger from Darla's talk of Angel as if he were a piece of luggage. Darla glared at Buffy one last time and vanished into the crowd.

"I can't believe it. Darla... she turned into dust." Willow stammered out. They were going to have to tell Giles about this in the morning. Buffy didn't feel like waiting after that and went home.

Buffy slowly drifted into Dreamland. Angel, once again, climbed into her bedroom. This was sneaky, he knew, but it was the only way he could visit her without all that tension.
Angel watched her sleep. He held her hand and gently kissed it. Suddenly, Buffy began to stir. Angel held his breath. Buffy mumbled something and settled down.

The night went on. Angel examined Buffy's palm. He didn't know how to read it, but he enjoyed inspecting the lines. Simple joys huh? Angel stood up and over Buffy. He ran his finger down the bridge of her nose. Buffy decided to wake up at that point. Her eyelids fluttered open and Angel was like a deer caught in a pair of headlights. He didn't make a move to disappear. Buffy didn't recognize the unfamiliar shape before her and panicked a little. Her eyes eventually adjusted to the darkness and saw Angel. He was standing over her, like an angel guarding her as she slept. Buffy smiled.

"So what I dreamed was really reality." Angel smiled. Somehow, there wasn't any of the tension he thought would be there. They were so comfortable together.

"Angel, I need to tell you this. We've found a way to devamperize a vampire." Buffy waited for it to sink in.

"How can that be possible? It's..."

"It is possible. As long as you're willing. Please Angel. Tell me you will turn back." Buffy pleaded. It was amazing, this chance. Angel could finally be with Buffy without worrying that he might hurt her. Angel smiled.

"Yes. Yes I will." Buffy sat up and kissed Angel on the lips briefly. That was the happiest moment of her life.
