Love and the Queen of Hearts: Love and the Queen of Hearts

by Dan Tropea

Disclaimer: This story is dedicated to the Queen of Hearts Princess Diana. Love and compassion is her name.

What i own: Nothing except sorrow for the loss of a brilliant light.

They were on the train from Scotland to London Friday night to go to Princess Diana's funeral.

Giles and his students and friends had their own compartment.

Cordelia, Buffy and Miss Calander were sitting opposite Xander, Giles and Willow. There was basically silence. Giles had paid for everyone to see the funeral.

Willow looked at Giles and softly said, "Mr Giles, thank you again for paying for the trip. I know how much the Princess meant to you."

Giles just looked at Willow and gently said, "Thank you again Willow. But you are my friends and students. This is a time to share grief and to support each other. I realize that we are not vampire hunting but life cannot be all about hunting vampires."

Buffy looked around. She was not quite sure what to think. She was a slayer and an American. What did Princess Diana ever could mean to her? She of course had the sensitivity not to say anything.

"You look pensive, Buffy. Whats wrong?" asked Giles. He knew that Buffy was confused. Being an American without any national family could do that. This is where our differences lie but then he knew that many Americans like Cordelia embraced the Royal family as if they were America's family. But Buffy was the typical one. No national family.

Buffy without thinking blurted out. "I don't understand why we are going. She was just a British princess not even an American." She realized how much she must of hurt Giles with those words. "I am sorry Giles. I am. I am just confused"

Miss Calander intervened. "Thats ok we are all confused. This was a horrible tragedy. I was only 15 when she got married and she was one of the prettiest and sweetest women i ever saw. But she became more then that over the years watching her she evolved from a shy sweet lady to a compassionate, assertive woman who just loved people and others more then she was loved herself."

"Yes", Miss Calander continued, "she was loved by millions but she knew that neither her husband nor his family ever cared for her. And she did a rare and special thing she rose above it and loved and cared for people. In the Aids hospitals where she visited people, with lepers, children in cancer wards. She even fought against land mines."

"I did not know." Buffy meekly replied. She looked at Giles.

"Because of tv and the media", Miss Calander continued, "she entered and stayed in our lives for 17 years. Sure some were paperazzi but it was also to be able to watch a person grow and become a unique person - a Queen of Hearts."

"But Diana was not an American and yet from the shows i have been watching the outpouring in the town and around the country is so great" interjected Willow.

"Yes Willow," replied Miss Calander. "Cordelia and i talked about this. We both agree that Diana was a world princess who taught and showed us about compassion and dignity that is why we all miss her."

When they left the train at midnight. They walked through the town. Each bought a boquet of flowers.

They slowly followed Giles to the royal Palace and he was the first to lay the flowers by Palace gates. The number of bouquets were incredible.

Buffy could not believe the amount of love people must of had for her. She finally looked at Giles and taking his hand and then Miss Calanders she said, "Miss Calander you are wrong people loved her more then she will ever know."

Giles looked at Buffy and squeezing her hand said with a smile, "Buffy our Princess knows."
