and I forgot
to tell you
I love you
and the night's
too long
and cold here
without you
I grieve in my condition
for I cannot find the word
to say I need you so

As the smoke from the explosion lingered, Xander and I walked up to where the ambulances were.

“We got off pretty cheap considering…” said Xander.

“Seems like we did,” I replied.

“He made it through the fight. I guess maybe he took off after, “ Xander said, leaving to go talk to Willow as Giles walked up to me.

“You alright?” Giles asked

“I'm tired,” I said, suddenly really ready to fall asleep on my feet.

“I could image so, it's been quite a couple of days. “

“I haven't processed everything yet. My brain isn't really functioning on the highest level, it's pretty much ‘fire bad, tree pretty,’ “ I replied, feeling emotionally and physically stretched.

“Understandable. Well, when it’s working again, congratulate it on a good campaign. You did very well,” Giles said. He handed me my diploma.

“There's a certain dramatic irony to all this. Synchronicity that is bordering on predestination, one might say, “ Giles continued.

“Fire bad, tree pretty,” I reminded him.

“Let's go to the tent to see Wesley, and if he's still whimpering, “ I was about to follow him when I realized that he was there.

we meet at the lights
I stare for a while
the world around disappears

He didn’t need to say anything, I knew he wasn’t going to anyway. We just stared at each other. I had a feeling of deja vu when I realized I wasn’t going to see him again, but this time I didn’t kill him. He’s leaving on his own accord. And he keeps looking at me with those soulful eyes. He slowly turned and walked away. I watched him go until I couldn’t see him.

oh and every time I'm close to you
there's too much I can't say
and you just walk away

I turned and walked up to my friends who were sitting on the bench.

“You guys wanna take off? I think we've pretty much done everything we can,” I said, wanting to do no more then crawl into bed and sleep.

“I'm for it,” Cordelia said.

“Are you OK?” Willow being her everperseptive self.

“Yeah, I'm OK. I could use a little sleep though. If someone could just wake me when it's time to go to college, that would be great,” I said.

“Guys, take a moment, we survived,” Oz said.

“One hell of a battle,” I agreed with him.

“Not the battle, high school,” I realized how deep his statement was. We all paused.

“I'm taking a moment,“ Oz said, as Willow and I stood up.

“And were done,“ Oz finished as we all walked off.

“Yup, were done, that is so cool, “ Xander said. We continues to talk as we walk off.

I remember what our yearbook said: Sunnydale High 99, The future is ours. The future is ours and although it will be hard life will go on.
