Prom: The series: Reigning Queen - Cordelia
by Chelle
The prom is the time of year for the true royalty of Sunnydale High school to look the part. Beautiful formalwear, and makeup, perfectly accessorized and ready to dance with the boys that they happened to be able to catch this week. Naturally, I'm still the Queen. Not the Prom Queen this year, unfortunately, but still the reigning Queen C.
I was rich and popular once. Then I fell into this crowd of freaks. A vampire slayer and her best buddies, and even some vampires and ex-demons thrown into the mix. I was rich. I was popular. Now I am neither. When daddy decided not to pay his taxes, like, ever, he made the decision to throw his daughter into the abyss of unpopularity and poverty. I had to get a job just to pay for my dress. Even then, I couldn't pay for it.
Xander paid for it. Xander! My nerdy ex-boyfriend, who I dated after lowering myself to the freak crowd. Then he cheated on me. Cheated on ME! I'm Cordelia Chase. I do the dumping. Ugh. But, still, I can't be mad. Hurt as hell, maybe. I couldn't forgive him. I won't forgive him. But still, he bought my dress for me. That was incredibly selfless and I truly appreciate him for it. He seems to not be the scum of the Earth that I wish he was.
I will say one thing for hanging out with a vampire slayer. Disasters are much easily averted. I mean, sure, you get into a lot of trouble, but then Buffy comes swooping in to save you at the last minute. Like tonight, some kid with a chip on his shoulder has created some demon dogs to eat kids in formal wear. And yet, here we are, formal wear on, and nothing is eating us. Buffy must have stopped them, and its a good thing too, because damn, I love this dress.
Xander is talking to the new girl, Anya. She is a strange little girl. She keeps to herself most of the time, and seems to regret being here at all. But he is dancing with her. Not that I'm jealous. Im over him. Very over him. But still, that could be me.
Wesley is here too. I see him over by the chaperones talking to Giles. He was sent here to be a watcher for Faith, and eventually Buffy too. He is handsome. Very 007 in his tux. I need a mature, older man. No more of those boys for Cordelia. I need someone who I can talk to. Someone mature. And that sexy british accent doesn't hurt much either.
"May I say, you look smashing," he says to me in that accent of his. I do love an accent. Except for Giles', because, ew.
"It's a start," I say, grinning wide. Do I need to spell it out for him? I take his arm, and start walking, when Xander rushes up to us.
"Cordelia! Wesley! My god in heaven, it's good to see you. How are you both? And details, please," he practically begs.
"Very well, thank you," the brit on my arm says. He is just so polite. So charming. Sigh.
"Yes, thank you," I say to Xander. I smiled at him. I hope he knows just how much I appreciate him.
"It looks good on you." He says. I smile. Silly boy.
"Well, duh," I say. Did he expect anything different? I'm still the Queen, after all.
