Running on Faith: Season One: Episode 13: The Killer Dees

by filmtheory

“Here,” Spike said, pointing at the chart. “This is the best entry point.”

“It’s across the building from the server room,” Connor said.

“Security’s weakest here,” Spike said, pointing at the same spot. “This one’s covered heavy. Plus exposure to people on the street. My entrance has a nice big building covering us.”

“We have to go through the heavy security whether we go through the near entrance or the far. If we go through your entrance, we’re exposed when we run down the hall to the server room. As for street exposure, no one’s going to be looking up at the building at 3 in the morning.”

“Why you gotta be in the server room anyway? I thought you were super hacker.”

“Best way to hack is to set myself up as a client on the server. Only place I can do that is if I’m sitting at the server. There’ll still be a lot of firewalls, but not as many.”

“Sorry, Spike,” Faith said. “I’m going with Connor on this one.”

“A slayer going with Connor,” Spike whispered sarcastically. “Will wonders never cease?”

Connor glanced up at Spike with concern on his face. He wanted to argue again that nothing had happened between him and Buffy, but knew that wouldn’t help his case. Luckily, he was saved by Dawn entering the room. She’d been back a few hours and working on logistics for Dana’s recovery.

“Willow will be here as soon as she wraps a few things up in Chicago,” Dawn said.

“Chicago?” Spike said. “I thought Red was in the Amazon. And no, that’s not a lesbian joke.”

“Brazil went quiet,” Faith said. “Like the demons upped and moved when a slayer and a super witch hit town. She’s in Chicago now living in one of Kennedy’s’ parents’ houses.”

“And now she’s coming to help us with the Risen One?” Spike asked.

“No,” Connor said quietly without looking up. “She’s coming for Dana.”

The room when quiet as it did whenever Dana was mentioned in the presence of Connor and Spike. The two held such completely opposing opinions on the subject of the slayer that no conversation could go without at least the threat of violence. Faith had put an end to the argument when she’d made it clear that the two could agree to disagree, but Dana was staying. Spike wasn’t happy at being overruled in favor of Connor for the umpteenth time.

“Dawn, you think you can stay with Dana while we do this thing?”

“Bugger that,” Spike said. “Me and newbie are the inside men. You take Dana and keep her with you. There’s no way the Bit stays alone with psycho slayer.”

Faith grinned broadly. “Which psycho slayer do you mean, Spike?”

“I mean the one who cut my hands off.”

“She won’t hurt Dawn,” Faith said. “She’s good with girls.”

“Which is another reason you should stay with her and Spike come with me,” Connor said. “If she gets angry, we’ll need a woman with the strength to put her down gently.”

“I’m not sure Connor should go,” Dawn said. “I mean, look at him. He looks like somebody ran him through a meat grinder.”

“Can you hack their server?” Connor asked.

Dawn rolled her eyes. “Fine. Whatever.”

“I’ll interpret that as ‘No, Connor, I can’t. I suppose you should be the one to go.’”

“Easy, mate,” Spike said.

“Connor, you’re in no condition to start shit,” Faith said. “You two are going to be simpatico on this job, right? Cuz if not, it’s slayer and hacker all the way.”

“I’ll behave if he does,” Connor said.

“Ditto,” Spike said.

“Fine,” Faith said. “I’ll be the girl downstairs and bring Dana with me. Dawn, you stay here and try to work out . . . I don’t know. A therapy plan or something.”

**

"Should you be drinking before a job?" Faith asked.

Spike downed another shot in the bar of the Hyperion. "Liquid courage."

"You need that?"

"With this one, yeah. Something's wrong with that kid."

Faith sat on the stool next to him. "How long's this liquor been here?"

"It's scotch. Older the better."

"Then set me up a shot. So what do you think's wrong with that kid? Super powers creep you out?"

"He's hiding something," Spike said, pouring Faith a shot. "I can tell when people are lying to me. Had a lot of practice. Plus, he's got something going on with Eve, too."

"You're the one meeting her at bars.”

"When Eve was talking to him, she said both his parents are vampires, and he doesn't argue. I talk to him about it, he says Dru straight out killed 'em."

"You never got along with Angel, did you? No matter whether you were both evil or both good."

"What's that got to do with it?"

"Maybe you don't like other Alpha Males at the watering hole. Sorry, you get an F for playing well with others. Tell you what, I'll check into his parents. See what happened to them. See if I can find a grave with bodies in it."

Faith smiled and patted Spike's shoulder. "Come on. Time for you and Junior to rob a bank."

***

Spike slowly cut away the pane of glass into the office. "You get the chance," he said as he cut. "Make sure to transfer a couple mil into my account."

"You have a bank account?" Connor whispered.

"Actually, I think it's in Dru's name. She was always worried about retirement, you know."

"Really?"

Spike removed the pane of glass through use of a suction cup. "Ponce," he said at Connor's gullibility. Spike slipped into the office. Connor handed him two heavy bags full of computer equipment, then followed him in.

"Stay near the wall," Connor whispered.

"I have done this before, you know," Spike said.

Connor, back to the wall, moved slowly across the room until he was under a red censor. Reaching up, he fidgeted with chords, clips, and wires until the red light went off. "We're good."

Spike walked to the center of the room and removed a battery powered buzz saw from the bag. Connor walked to the door into the hall and laid down. He slipped a fiber optic cable under the door, plugged it into a monitor, then circled the cable around. "Clear," Connor said. Spike started the saw and began cutting through the floor into the server room below.

Connor continued scanning the hallway with the cable while Spike started the buzz saw and began cutting a hole in the wall from the office into the server room. "Hold up," Connor said.

Spike couldn't hear him over the saw. Connor jumped up and ran to Spike, tapping him. Quickly, Spike stopped sawing and turned to shove Connor. "Don't sneak up on me!" he yelled.

Connor clapped his hand over Spike's mouth. Spike shoved him off. Connor held a finger over his mouth to indicate silence, then pointed to the door. Connor crept back to the door and looked at the monitor again. The guard was standing still. Connor let out a sigh, glad he hadn't heard them. Then, he saw the guard point. Two other guards joined him in the hall and began jogging toward the office.

Connor jumped to his feet. "Finish fast!" The buzz saw blared as Connor grabbed the desk and pushed it toward the door. He was still injured and pushing the desk took all his strength. Spike finished sawing and ran to the desk. Pushing it, he yelled, "Go do the computer stuff. I got the door."

Spike slammed the desk into the door, then started grabbing filing cabinets. Connor grabbed a bag with two laptops and jumped through the small hole into the room below. Connor pulled out the laptops and plugged cables connecting each to the mainframe. Connor typed frantically as Spike moved furniture above them, barricading the door. He pulled out a cell phone and connected a headset.

"You're late," Faith said, answering Connor's call.

"Running behind. But I'm in the server. Gotta find the account. Okay, got an account here that wired to the account number Eve gave us. Hang on." Connor typed feverishly. "I'm in," he said as he began downloading the data to a flash drive. "Not a lot of activity. Opened in 1993. The money was transferred in from another account here called 'Municipal Fund'. Hang on. I'm going to try to find that account." Connor moved back and forth, typing on both laptops, as the data loaded onto his computer. "Damn! The other account was closed too long ago. It's on a completely different server."

Spike dropped through the hole into the server room. "They're almost through the door, mate. You done?"

"Almost.” Above, Connor heard the guards smashing through Spike's barricade. Sirens were sounding now. "We're going to have to go out through the sewers."

"And I thought I wasn't going to have any fun today," Spike said sarcastically.

"Done," Connor said, closing and disconnecting one of the laptops. He began to close the other. "What the hell?"

"What is it?" Faith asked over the phone.

"Faith, one of this guy's wire transfers has your name on it."

Spike turned and looked at Connor nervously.

"What? What are you talking about?" Faith called over the phone.

"Transfer out from yesterday," Connor said with amazement. "To an account in Switzerland. The memo line reads Faith-”

"Gotta go," Spike said, slamming the laptop closed and picking it up. The guards had smashed through the barricade into the room above them.

"The floor! The floor!" someone above them yelled.

Connor and Spike took a laptop each and ran form the server room into the hallway on the floor below the guards. "Do it, Faith," Connor said into the headset on his cell phone.

The building's power shut down. Emergency lights came on, but only briefly before they too shut down. Connor hung up the phone.

Spike pried the elevator doors open as guards poured from the stairwell onto their floor. "Freeze!" a guard yelled. Spike shoved Connor into the empty elevator shaft and jumped after him as bullets whizzed by.

"Looks like they're shooting to kill," Spike said as he began prying the bottom doors open. He ran into the hallway. Connor was limping slightly. He was still battered form his 12 rounds with Dana and 7 story drop wasn't exactly pleasant in his condition.

Both Spike and Connor could hear many footsteps storm into the building. "Sounds like SWAT's here," Spike said. Spike walked to a metal door in the floor and pulled it up open.

Connor stepped past Spike. "Down we go into the River of Waste," Connor smirked before jumping into a clean tunnel. Spike jumped down after him. "Pretty nice.”

"This bank obviously has demon clients, genius. This is a sort of VIP entrance." Spike pulled the door shut.

Connor turned and began to run down the tunnel. Spike froze, then turned to Connor. "Wait!"

Connor stopped, but it was too late. He felt metal wire close around his ankle and suddenly he was being jerked into the air. Connor dropped the computer as he flew up upside down. He quickly pulled the flash drive form his pocket and tossed it to Spike. "Get it to Faith!"

Spike caught the disk but didn't run. "Dru. Come out!"

"Spike just run!" Connor yelled.

Drusilla slowly sauntered around the corner toward Connor. "All those silly men upstairs, looking for my boys," she seemed to hum in her melodic voice. Several vamps followed behind her.

Connor had managed to fold up and was trying to get out of the trap. "Spike, run!" he shouted again, his fingers working to get between the metal chord and his ankle.

"Don't like you, mate. But I’m still not leaving you with her."

Drusilla laughed. "You don't have a choice."

Spike turned to see vampires enter the stretch of tunnel, cutting him off from the exit.

"We're all together now," Dru smiled. "My baby brother and my precious Spike."

Connor freed his foot from the trap and fell to the ground. He sprung to his feet, though with less energy and speed than usual.

"Someone's hurt my little brother. Mmmm. Makes me jealous. I don’t want anyone else hurting him but me.”

"Let Spike go," Connor said hoarsely.

"No, no, my lovely. We shall be together. Like a family."

"How's he involved with this Dru?" Spike yelled angrily. “He couldn't be your baby brother unless Angel sired him, and the boy is not a vampire!"

"I'll come with you," Connor said quietly. He intended to be too quiet for Spike to hear, but the vampire's hearing was too good. "You're right," Connor said weakly. "I belong with you. But not Spike. Not anymore. Let him go."

Drusilla stepped up to Connor. His lip was bleeding again, the blood running down his chin and neck. Drusilla leaned forward, and slowly licked the trail of blood from his neck to his lip. She swallowed the blood and gently sucked his lip. Stepping back, she stared adoringly at Connor. She waved her hand at Spike. "Let him go.”

Spike looked around. His odds were bad, especially considering Connor had neither the strength nor inclination to fight. "This isn't over," he said coldly to Drusilla.

Drusilla turned Connor to face Spike. She slid behind Connor and wrapped her arms around him. Drusilla's eyes were locked with Spike's as she slowly backed away, pulling Connor with her. "Baby brother was right. You don't belong with me anymore. Farewell, my love."

Drusilla backed around a corner, taking Connor with her.

****

"Eve," Faith said angrily. "She set you up!"

"I wouldn't put it past her," Spike said. "But in this case, I don't think so. Eve seems to want Connor for her very own and neither she nor Dru are the type to share."

"You just don't want to admit trusting her was a mistake!"

"A," Spike shouted as he jumped up. "I've never trusted Eve! And B . . ."

Suddenly, Spike felt himself slammed into the wall. Dana had a stake at his chest as she glared into his eyes. "Don't touch her," Dana hissed angrily.

Faith was still in shock. She hadn't realized Dana had been watching. Dawn had looked up from the laptop and was now standing next to Faith.

"Dana, I need you to back away for me," Faith said. "Dana, let him go. Come on. Back away." She wasn't sure it was a good move, but Faith walked quietly to Dana's side. She gently laid a hand on Dana's shoulder.

Dana quickly turned, brandishing the stake at Faith. Then, recognizing the other slayer, Dana lowered her arm. Faith slowly pulled a stake away.

"See what happens when you let that thing roam free around here?" Spike spat bitterly.

Faith glared at the vampire. "You're closer to being a thing than she is." Faith turned to Dana. "Do you want to sit down here with us for a little bit? Because you can if you promise not to attack anyone. Including Spike."

Dana looked at Spike homicidally. "Touch her and I'll kill you," Dana said in a tone so devoid of emotion it was frightening.

"What if she asks me to touch her?" Spike said smugly.

"Spike," Dawn said chastising the vampire. "Just sit down. Don't do anything stupid."

Spike sat. Faith, Dawn, and Dana follow suit. Dawn moved the laptop's mouse to turn the screen saver off.

"How much did he get?" Faith asked.

"Not much. It's possible the account wasn't very active. Money coming in '93. A few small withdrawals. Money going to a law firm in Illinois. That must have been to spring Ethan. Money to the account in the Caymans we think is Markovic. Then the transfer to Switzerland." Dawn turned the computer so that Faith could see it. "Connor was right. Your name's in the memo section of the transfer."

"Looks like the Risen One's looking to take out Faith," Spike said. "Probably calling back Vladimir."

"But this transfer went to Switzerland," Dawn said. "Not the Caymans."

"The Markovic brothers are pretty hard core about being paramilitary. It doesn't surprise me they'd cover their tracks by switching bank accounts."

"I don't get it," Faith said. "When we first ran into this Risen One in that place in Sunnydale, he took off as soon as he saw me. He wanted me dead, why didn't he do it then?"

"All him running off proves is that he's scared of you," Spike said. "Which is probably why he's contracting out to have you killed."

"I don't know," Dawn said. "When that ceremony happened, he was pretty weak. That could be why he ran. But I saw Riley questioning Ethan on this Risen guy. Ethan seemed pretty scared. He didn't seem to know much, either. But he still seemed scared. Why would a guy that scary need hired assassins?"

"Same reason he needed hired kidnappers," Spike said.

"But that was before he rose," Faith said.

"Why's everyone here always ganging up on me?!" Spike yelled.

With her usual tremendous reflexes, Faith managed to catch Dana as she flew over the table toward Spike. "Okay, sweetie. Why don't we go upstairs, huh? Watch some television."

"Oh, yeah," Spike scoffed. "That'll solve all her problems?"

Faith turned. "Spike, the decision's been made. Get on the train or get off the tracks."

"You know Dru," Dawn interjected. "Maybe you should try to find her and Connor. Wait a sec, I'm actually the watcher here, aren't I? So forget the maybe. Spike, go find Connor and Dru."

Spike stood and stepped from the table. "Fine," he said, sounding anything but. "I'll go find Dru and her baby bro . . ." Spike slowly sat down again, lost in thought.

"Spike?" Dawn asked quietly.

Faith shrugged at Dawn as if to say 'Spike's your problem.' She took Dana upstairs.

Spike looked at Dawn. "I need your help with something.”

*****

Connor almost felt like laughing at the irony. Surrounded by vampires and yet only feeling self-conscious. A curtain was drawn around the large bathtub in which Connor sat. Only Drusilla could see him. She was dipping a cloth in the water and gently wiping the dirt and blood from his face.

"I've seen you coming for as long as I could see," she whispered to him sweetly. "One who was born of us. I have seen the things you are capable of. The lovely destruction and despair." Though still fully clothed, Drusilla slid in to the tub, straddling Connor and looking into his eyes. "I have so longed to taste you, my precious brother."

Connor placed his hand on Dru's chest and gently pushed her back. "Dru, um, is that okay? Can I call you Dru?"

Drusilla nodded and purred, placing her head against his.

Again, Connor pushed her back. "Yeah, um, well . . . look. This . . . this isn't the sort of thing that brothers and sisters do. I mean, I had two sisters . . ."

"No!" Drusilla barked. "You have only me, my love."

"Okay, fine. But I had people that I thought of as my sisters. And I loved them so much I can't even tell you. But, um, not like this, you know? Because loving your sister like this is just . . . gross. And illegal. Unless you're in West Virginia or something."

"I don't like West Virginia. Everyone tastes the same."

"That's what happens when brothers and sisters . . .Hands. Hands." Connor said frantically as he grabbed Drusilla's wrists and pulling them away from his thighs. "Dru, we can't-”

Drusilla grabbed Connor's hair and jerked his head back. She gazed into Connor's deep blue eyes. He stared back up in to her blue eyes. Connor thought this was it. He'd pissed her off and now she was going to suck him dry. In a killing way, not a dirty, incestuous way. But instead of attacking, she whispered.

"Be in my eyes. Be in me."

Connor felt himself falling into a daze.

"See me with your heart, Connor. See me as your heart.”

******

"So what time can you be here?" Spike asked. "That soon. Good." He looked at his watch. "Cutting it a bit close to dawn for my tastes, but that's fine. I'll meet you there, then. Later, mate." Spike hung up as the front door to the Hyperion opened. He turned and smiled. "Hey Red. Long time no see."

Willow quickly walked to Spike and hugged him as her baggage floated in behind her. "This feels awkward, huh?"

"Oh, just a little," Spike smiled, hugging her back.

"Okay then," Willow said, releasing him.

"I didn't say stop!" Spike laughed, hugging her again. Willow laughed and Spike finally let her go. "Slayers and watcher!" Spike called loudly. "Your witch in white shining armor is here." He looked at Willow again, a more serious look on his face. "You think you can help this bird?"

"You think I can't?" Willow said with a mock arrogant cock of the eyebrow.

"Let's just say I have a particular interest in her either being fully recovered or fully locked away."

"I'll see what I can do."

"Willow!" Dawn yelled as she entered the room. She ran to the witch and hugged her tightly.

"There," Spike said. "That feel more natural?"

"Is that a gay joke?" Willow asked, furrowing her brow.

"No!" Spike protested quickly. "Just, you know, hugging the Bit and and and . . ."

"Spike, I'm kidding. And yes, I'm a little more used to hugging Dawn."

"I'll leave you two to it, then. Got an appointment with an alley to keep." Spike grabbed a long bag from the counter and headed for the door.

Faith came down the stairs as Spike was about to leave. "Going to get the kid?"

"Yeah. Gotta meet someone first."

"Eve?" Faith asked suspiciously.

"No. Old mate of mine."

"You think this old mate of yours can help?" Faith asked.

Spike stared at her resolutely. "Positive.” Spike turned and left.

"No hello?" Willow asked.

Faith smiled. "I'd hug but . . ."

"It's be awkward," Willow said. "I already covered that with Spike. So where's this slayer of yours?"

*******

The room was dark. Rose pedals floated in the bathtub. Candles surrounded it.

"I . . . I thought you were dead," Connor said, covering her neck with kisses.

Cordelia slowly rose from the tub. She was dressed like Cordy all right. Tight red top. Black mini skirt. The face of an angel with a body that could entice a monk to sin. Connor smiled up at her. She lowered her hand. Connor took it and Cordy pulled him to his feet. He kissed her deeply.

"You're so beat up," she said with a laugh. "Why do we only do this when you're hurt?"

Connor smiled and kissed her ear lobe. "I dreamed of you. Even before I got my memory back. I would dream of you."

"Were your sheets sticky when you woke up?"

"Cordy!" Connor said blushing.

She stepped from the tub. Connor followed her. She slowly dropped to the floor. Connor lowered himself on top of her.

Cordy turned her head to the side. "Leave us.”

Connor turned to the side. For a moment, the room was brightly lit. There was a curtain with people moving behind it. "Who . . ."

"Just us," Cordy said, turning Connor to face her. "Connor, baby, I love you. I always loved you. You know that, right?"

Connor shook his head no. "You said it was a mistake.”

Cordelia pulled her shirt off. There was no bra. Just her chest. Magnificent like he remembered. He lowered his mouth to her nipple and slowly drew it in. She put her hand on the back of her head and held him there. "Oh god. God yes, Connor. Oh, how I loved you."

Connor looked up at her again, disbelief radiating from his eyes.

"I was scared, baby," she whispered. "It was taboo." She smiled wickedly. "But I don't care about those things now. Do you?"

Connor shook his head no. It was all the same as before. Her loving him. Giving herself to him. Promising him a haven of solace in a world of violence in which he'd lived since birth.

She unzipped the miniskirt and pushed it down her hips. She placed her hand under his right buttock, massaging it as she gently pulled it toward her. "Slow and steady. Like I showed you."

Connor positioned his hips between Cordy's legs. He moved forward slowly. Moving into her was like sinking into a hot bath on a cold day. Warm. Peaceful. Connor sighed when he was all the way in. It wasn't just pleasure. It was relief. It was a breath of air when he thought he was going to drown.

"Do you love me, baby?" Cordy whispered.

Connor stared in to her eyes as he rhythmically moved in and out of her. "Yes.”

Still looking in to his eyes. "Would you do anything for me?"

Still looking back into her eyes and slowly moving inside her. "Yes."

A soft moan. A stroke of his hair. "Say it," she moaned as if on the verge of orgasm.

"I love you," Connor moaned back, speaking in her same tone of pleasure and near release.

"And?"

"I'd do anything for you.”

"Again."

"I'd . . . oh . . I'd do anything for . . . oh god . . . I'd do anything for you," he said picking up his pace slightly. "Any . . . anythin . . . oh, oh."

Cordy moved her hand to Connor's ass again. She pulled it, holding him deep inside her. "Do it. Do it now."

With a moan of ecstasy, Connor released his orgasm inside her. He moaned more as he continued throbbing inside her, filling her. Cordy placed her hand on the back of his head and lowered it to her soft breast. "Stay inside me.”

Connor nodded as he closed his eyes. He quickly drifted away to sleep.

Holding her young lover, Drusilla wondered if Connor, being the child of two vampires, could himself impregnate a vampire. His last child had been such a remarkable force, Dru knew that their offspring would be no less. But Drusilla had been awake many days and dawn approached quickly. She pulled a heavy blanket over Connor and herself, then joined him in his sleep.

Spike was smoking a cigarette. He looked at the sky, growing a frightening shade of pink to the east. Sensing a presence behind him, he turned. "'bout time you got here," he said opening the bag he brought from the Hyperion.

"This was as fast as I could make it."

"I'll bet," Spike said, handing the man a sword and taking one for himself. "It's been a few hours. Think we'll still be able to pick up the scent?"

"I could track him from anywhere," Angel said as he stepped from the shadows. "After all, he's my son."
