Note: I get really bored at work and weirdness results. The scenes from the Barnes and Noble are based on what actually happened when I took my brother to buy the book. I tried to take few liberties with the story line and characters, but immediately after Sunnydale imploded, what happened is anyone’s guess. This takes place before Gunn had his “procedure” and Spike comes back on Angel, but after they have moved into the Wolfram and Hart offices. The timeline on the show didn’t make much sense, so neither will the one in the story. I gave Angel and Faith last names to make things flow better and because I think everyone should have a last name. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
Willow giggled and then clamped her hand over her mouth when she saw Buffy glaring at her. They pulled into the Barnes and Noble parking lot, and Xander began to look for a parking spot.
"Honestly! I don't understand why you made me come dressed like this. I look ridiculous!"
"It didn't bother you when we went dressed up to see Attack of the Clones!"
"She's right, Buff. You joined us in our geekdom outside the Sun Cinema."
"Star Wars was different!"
"Why? Because the brown hair dye you used seeped into your brain causing temporary insanity? Or maybe it was because your braids were too tight and blood couldn't reach your cerebellum? Or maybe…"
"Shut up, Xander. You're just happy that you got your eye back." Buffy quickly shut her mouth when she realized what she had alluded to.
As soon as Kennedy had become a Slayer, she had dumped Willow for Wood who had promised to train her. They had been plotting to leave, when Willow and Faith found them packing their rental car. Once confronted, Wood and Kennedy admitted to everything and then drove away. Shortly there after, they were in a serious car accident and died from their injuries. At the hospital, Willow was able to magick Xander a new eye before turning her back on her ex-girlfriend forever.
Xander ignored Buffy's allusion and continued arguing with her.
"Or what? You'll wave your plastic lightsaber and pretend to cut off my hand? Please! Besides, Leia didn't even have a lightsaber!"
"Oh yes she did! Luke made her one right before they went to Corellia!"
"And when was that?"
"In Ambush on Corellia."
"Which is…?"
"It's a book, you moron! You know that!"
"Yes, but I was trying to make a point that books are important. Plus, you shouldn't yuck someone's wow like that."
"I'm not yucking anything other than being here in costume."
"Will you guys stop fighting?! You're ruining Harry Potter Day!"
"Sorry Will."
They finally found a parking spot and pulled into it. Xander turned the car off and unlocked the doors. Willow was out and waiting for them within seconds. Buffy opened her door slowly, reluctant to leave the relative safety of the car. She looked despairingly at her outfit again. She wore a gray pleated skirt, a gray sweater vest, a gold and red striped tie and knee socks and a Gryffindor house robe.
"You're really brave, Buffy, so you get to be a Gryffindor," Willow had explained just a few hours earlier.
Buffy looked very much out of place in her ensemble. This was increased when she stood next to Willow and Xander who had adjusted quite nicely to their costumes. Willow was wearing the same outfit as Buffy, and with her red hair looked very much like Ginny Weasley. Xander was decked out as Harry Potter himself, complete with a lightening bolt scar (drawn on in eyeliner) and round, black glasses.
"One more thing, here are your wands."
Willow reached into her bag and pulled out three dowel rods that someone had whittled into wands. Buffy sighed and took hers, and then followed Willow and Xander to join the queue that formed in front of the building. In front of them, a blonde boy in a house robe with a snake insignia waved his plastic wand at a redhead in a Gryffindor robe.
"Look Xan - I mean, Harry! It's Ron Weasley and Draco Malfoy!"
The boys turned and blushed when Willow smiled at them. She began to giggle again, not caring about the dirty and curious looks some of the parents were throwing at her.
"Breathe Will. Breathe," Xander cautioned.
"But it's only 6 hours, 27 minutes and 45, 44, 43…"
"Seconds, yes, we know. But you should really try to calm down."
"Xander, I thought you were excited too! Or are you both just humoring me?"
"I am excited, but A. We don't want to get kicked out for annoying people or being loud, and 2. We're going to get tired of that fast."
"Okay. I'll settle down."
Buffy looked at the two of them like they had turned green.
At least Faith and Giles aren't here.
"They're over here! Hey, B - nice outfit."
Buffy sighed.
Oh, Lovely.
She turned around face the other Slayer, and found Giles and Andrew were with her. All three of them were in costume.
Giles wore a navy robe with a gold, celestial print. He had on a long white wig and beard and his normal glasses were replaced with half moon spectacles. Faith was wearing a green robe and a plaid shawl. Her hair was in a tight bun at the nape of her neck. Andrew was dressed similarly to Xander, only he lacked the scar and wore silver glasses. They all carried “wands”.
"Hello Professor Dumbledore, Professor McGonagall, Neville."
"Mr. Potter, Miss Weasley, Buffy. Professor McGonagall and I were just discussing the high level of Muggle security." Giles looked at Xander. "Am I doing this right?"
"Yes sir, Professor Dumbledore."
They all smiled at the mortified look on Buffy's face.
"You…" she began. "You…You're all into this?"
"Yeah, B. It's neat. All kinds of things we don't have to fight. We've been doing a book group thing since Sunnydale imploded. Willow's kinda our leader. She's ahead of us. We've only just finished The Chamber of Secrets."
Buffy looked around at the eager looks on her friends' faces.
At least Andrew is being quiet.
They wanted to share this with her, as odd as she thought it. She sighed and looked toward the sky.
"Who am I supposed to be?"
Willow reached into her bag and pulled out an auburn wig and put it on her friend.
"You are Lily Potter. Harry's mom."
Buffy looked at Willow, "Well that's a plus, but how do you explain the age thing?"
"Harry's parents, well, they died when he was a baby. You're about her age when she died and that's the way she's remembered."
"Great, so I'm dead? Why do I have to be dead?"
You'll see.
"Because you’re experienced at being dead," Willow told her friend.
"Whatever. Do you have the first book?"
Willow smiled broadly and pulled out her well-worn copy of The Sorcerer's Stone and handed it to her friend. Buffy opened it and with a glance over the top of the book at her friends, she plunged into the world of magic and Muggles.
Chapter One: The Boy Who Lived.
Mr. and Mrs. Dursley, of number four, Privet Drive, were proud to say they were perfectly normal, thank you very much. They were the last people you'd expect to be involved in anything strange or mysterious, because they just didn't hold with such nonsense.

Angel followed Fred down to the car where Gunn and Wesley were waiting. He looked at his colleagues, and couldn't help but smile. Here he was, 250 years old, going to a bookstore in costume to get the newest Harry Potter book.
Fred had started reading anything and everything she could as a defense mechanism after she returned from Pylea. She found the Harry Potter books to be most enjoyable and a really good way to relax. After Angel had withdrawn when Buffy had died, Fred recommended them as a way to release his pain. He was hooked and before she could say "Quidditch"; Wesley, Gunn, Lorne and even Cordelia read them too.
When Willow came to LA to help with their Angelus problem, she and Fred had discussed many different things, including Harry Potter. That was how Willow got hooked. Now the girls had plotted to meet each other at a Barnes and Noble in LA. They conspired to get their respective groups there in costume to get a picture.
They had an ulterior motive. They wanted to get Buffy and Angel together again. After Angel had visited a month earlier, he had come home and locked himself in his room. He was broodier than usual and wouldn't speak to anyone. Buffy too had been out of it. She was reckless at times, and then became sullen and disinterested in things she used to enjoy. Both Buffy and Angel were scaring their friends, and Willow and Fred were convinced that it was because of the visit. Two days after they had defeated the First Evil, Willow and Buffy had talked about everything that had happened.
"I went to see about the scythe, and Caleb was there. We fought, and I fell. Just as he was going in for the kill, someone hit him on the back of the head. I couldn't see who it was but, I knew it was Angel. He helped me up and let me finish off Caleb, or so we thought, and then we talked. And then there was kissing. And then we talked. Then Caleb got up again, and he knocked Angel out. I killed him and then we talked some more. Then he gave me the amulet I gave Spike. Then we argued about whether or not he was going to stay here and fight. Then we argued about our relationship, then I explained that I didn't think a Slayer was supposed to have any kind of serious relationship. I told him I was cookie dough and I needed to finish baking before we could be together."
Her voice faltered for a moment before she took a deep breath and plunged on in a hoarse whisper.
"The thing is, I am finished baking. I didn’t know that seeing the ruins of our home would show me that, but now I’ve totally screwed up everything! Oh God, Will! I wrecked it all, he was right there and… I love him and he loves me and that's all that really matters. But he'll never know that now! I messed everything up!"
Buffy hadn't cried, making the situation all the more heartbreaking for her friends. It had strengthened Willow's resolve to fix things for her. Later that night, Willow called Fred and they began conspiring to meet, seemingly by accident. They came up with the perfect cover, the midnight Harry Potter party.
"So, you'll get there around 6:30 and we'll come by as soon as it gets dark. Even if she doesn't want to come, you've got to keep her there."
"I know, Fred. I'll tell her it's a perfect opportunity for a vamp attack or something. How about Angel? I mean, he's not exactly the kind of person one expects to see at a Harry Potter party."
"Actually, he's read the books and is a fan, so it won't be to hard."
"Good, what about the costume thing?"
"That'll be a little harder, but you know he hates sticking out, so we'll convince him this will keep him from being a sore thumb."
"That brings up another question. About sore thumbs. Do they really stick out? I asked Xander and he just looked at me with pure pity, like he was sorry for me."
"I think it's 'cause if they're bandaged they do stick out straight and funny, or something. Back to Harry Potter. How are we gonna do costumes? I can't sew and I don't think we'll find them in our sizes in stores."
"I'll take care of it. Just get me the measurements tomorrow. Who is everyone gonna be?"
"Well, I don't know. What'd you think? Favorite characters? Or something else?"
"There are prizes for costumes and if we get a whole group, we're bound to win. So maybe we should do it on a kinda looks like way."
"I agree. So, you'd be…?"
"Ginny and you'd be Hermione. Wesley should probably be Ron and Xander can be Harry. Giles can be Dumbledore and Faith can be McGonagall and Andrew can be Neville."
"Gunn is always complaining about how there are 'No black men' in Harry Potter, so I think we should make him Sirius Black. Lorne isn't going to be in town and Cordelia's still in a coma, so they don't need costumes. That leaves…"
"Buffy and Angel. Who should they be?"
Willow and Fred were silent for several minutes, trying to figure out whom Buffy and Angel should portray. Finally, an idea hit Willow.
"What if they were Lily and James Potter?"
"That's perfect!!"
"I can get Buffy to do it, can you get Angel to?"
"Easily. Angel thinks that James did things right, trying to save his family by sacrificing himself. But, what should they wear?"
"Well, they could just wear Gryffindor house robes, I guess. And I'll get Buffy a wig, she won't die her hair."
"That's brilliant!"
"I have a really easy pattern for a robe, I just need lengths for each person. Xander's going to help me out. He can make wands for everyone and we'll get any accessories too. Anything else?"
"None that I can think of. I'll get the measurements from everyone and e-mail them to you. I think I hear someone moving around. I'll talk to you later!"
"Bye, Fred."
"Bye, Will."
******
In the car, Angel fiddled with his robe. Fred was keeping something from him, from them all. He didn't like it.
"Fred, what's going on?"
"N-Nothing. Why?"
"You're very jumpy and seem on edge. Is there something you're hiding?"
"It's a surprise. A very happy surprise." Fred smiled and then went back to the book in her lap. She wanted to finish rereading The Goblet of Fire before she started The Order of the Phoenix. In the front seat, Gunn and Wesley shared a look. They knew something was up, but they too were in the dark about it. Angel knew she wasn't going to tell him anything, so they all rode in silence. They got to the Barnes and Noble and quickly found that parking was a nightmare.
"I'm going to park over there and we can walk."
"Sounds good."
Gunn maneuvered the car back out of the parking lot and down the street where they parked at a Petsmart. Everyone climbed out, adjusted their costumes and headed back toward the bookstore. Fred was getting jumpier and acting stranger with each step. She tried to keep her excitement inside, but knew that this was one of the best things she could do for her boss. They crossed the street and looked for the end of the line. Fred looked for Willow.
Angel noticed something was different right away. He looked around, trying to figure out if it was a threat. His eyes finally rested on a group of adults, in costume no less, talking animatedly and laughing.
That looks like… no, it couldn't be.
Angel and his friends got in the line that now stretched down the sidewalk behind the store. Fred slipped away, saying she had to use the bathroom. She quickly found Willow and her friends already inside completing the trivia challenge, to the best of their abilities.
"Willow!"
Willow looked up to see Fred walking toward them.
"Hiya Fred!"
"Hey there, everyone. Loving the costumes."
"Thanks, Willow made them. And you are?"
"I'm Fred. I work…" Fred saw Willow shaking her head no. "…here in town. Willow and I are old pen pals. Her mom knew my mom."
"Oh. Well, nice to meet you. I'm Giles."
Faith picked up on the charade, raised her eyebrows in a very Professor McGonagall fashion and introduced herself too.
"I'm Faith and this is Andrew. He's not allowed to talk." Fred smiled at her, grateful that she didn't reveal they knew each other.
"This is Buffy. She's never read Harry Potter before, so she's trying to catch up."
Buffy waved absentmindedly, completely absorbed in the book. "And of course, you know Xander."
"I do?"
"From my 7th birthday party. He was the one that took my Barbie."
"Oh, right! I remember now."
Willow knew that she had to slip away without being really obvious. She had to talk to Fred to make sure everything was going to plan.
"I've got to use the bathroom. I'll be right back."
"I was headed there myself when I saw you. It was nice meeting you all. Enjoy the book Buffy!"
Willow and Fred walked to the back of the store and out of earshot before they spoke again.
"Everyone is here and the costumes you made fit wonderfully! I think Angel knows something's going on. Do you want me to bring them over now?"
"Yeah, I think that'd be good. Just, don't tell them who it is."
"Okay. See you shortly!" Fred and Willow parted company and each returned to her friends.
******
Angel couldn't shake the feeling that there was something strange about the people he had seen.
They all seemed familiar. Almost like…
"She didn't!"
"Who didn't do what?" Gunn asked, still annoyed that Fred had made him dress as Sirius Black. They had argued when she suggested it, but everyone had sided with her.
"Fred didn't deliberately bring us here to meet up with Buffy and her friends."
"What? She wouldn't!" Wesley said, incredulously.
"Sure I would," Fred came up behind them smiling. "It was supposed to be a surprise and you weren't supposed to figure it out. Willow and I thought it would be fun. Come on, we're gonna go say hi. They're inside."
The men looked at Fred as if she had grown antennae.
"Angel, I need to talk to you first. Gunn, Wesley, you guys go on, we'll meet you there."
Wesley and Gunn slowly stepped out of line and walked toward the front of the building.
Angel was furious. "Fred, I really don't want to talk to you right now."
"You never want to talk to anyone anymore! You've been so withdrawn ever since you came back from Sunnydale – even more than usual. I've been talking to Willow since she came to visit us and she said Buffy's been out of it too. We think that this destructive behavior stems from your visit. She said that Buffy needs to talk to you, but she won't come and seek you out. We decided to give you two the opportunity to talk things out and solve your issues. So please, just try to have fun and if you want to be mad at me, that's okay. But you need to talk to her."
Angel looked at Fred for a moment. She looked genuinely concerned for him. He sighed and squeezed her shoulder.
"Okay Fred. If it's that important to you, I'll give it a shot. Now, let's go."
"I think you should go talk to her by yourself. They're sitting in the coffee shop. Wesley an' Gunn an' I will get her friends out of the way. She's dressed as Lily."
Angel looked at Fred in disbelief.
"So that's why you wanted me to come as James, huh?"
Fred smiled and trotted away.
