Disclaimer: You all know the drill; I don't own them. They belong to the Great One (Joss Whedon, if you're not paying attention).
Time Line: This happens some time after the death of Joyce, but before everything with Glory. Just pretend the stuff with Glory will never happen.
“Buffy?” “Giles, why are you calling?” “Recently, something came to me that concerns your mother,” Giles said. “What is it? Do you know?” “I have no idea. I received a videotape and a thick envelope. I haven’t touched either,” Giles said. “I’m coming right over,” Buffy said.
Buffy arrived at Giles’, and found everything sitting on his coffee table. Giles put the videotape in, and they sat down to watch it. The screen was black, and then suddenly, Joyce’s face filled the screen. “Hi Baby. I know that this seems odd to you. But there is something that I had to tell you. And I made this tape just in case something goes wrong. So, if you’re watching this, it means that something has gone wrong, and I died. But don’t worry, I’m okay.” Buffy silently wiped the away the tears streaming down her face.
“Okay, here it goes. There was a time when your father and I were separated, before you were born. We had a bad fight, and I fled to London. While I was there, I went to some clubs. One night, I had a one-night stand with some random guy. I never even knew his name. The next day, Hank showed up in London. We made up, and went home. The next few weeks were spent talking, getting to know each other again. Then, two months after we got back, I found out I was pregnant. There was only one possibility for your father, because Hank and I had not had sex since before I left for London. Your father is the man from the club. Now, don’t worry about trying to find him because I already have. Now, he doesn’t know yet. He lives in Sunnydale. When I first saw him, I thought he would recognize me, but he didn’t. So, I pretended that I didn’t recognize him. Brace yourself; here it comes. Buffy, if I know him, your father is more than likely sitting right next to you. Yes, Giles, you are the man from the club. I can almost see the recognition in your eyes. Buffy, you can check the envelope. When Giles went in to the hospital for his annual check-up, they drew blood. They still had your sample on file. They sent both to be tested, and found that Giles really is your father. Now, what you do with this information is up to you. But, also realize that since the monks made Dawn from you, which means that Dawn is also Giles’. I leave all this in your hands.” The screen went blank.
Buffy and Giles sat in silence. “Does the Council have rules about being your daughter’s Watcher?” Buffy asked. “Do you want me to be your father?” “Giles, you have been more like my father than Hank Summers ever was,” Buffy said. Giles turned to her, tears in his eyes, and he immediately pulled Buffy into his arms (father-daughter hug).
They immediately called everyone to let them know. Dawn was ecstatic. Giles decided to leave his apartment, and moved in with Buffy and Dawn. Tara and Willow found a small apartment close by. Giles, with his booming business at the Magic Box, was able to keep Buffy and Dawn from going bankrupt. They were happy. Giles had children, which he never thought he’d have, and Buffy and Dawn finally had a father, something they hadn’t had in a long time. They became a family.
