Dream come true: Chapter 7

Chapter 7

“Buffy?!”
He called again. The tunnel was dark and damp, and he had to stoop to walk through it. He had no idea where he was going, he couldn’t see as well in the dark anymore. Not like he could as a vampire. He reached into his pocket and brought out a small silver lighter. He lit it so that it’s orange flame lit up the tunnel ahead. He shivered at the chill coming from further down the tunnel, something he would never usually notice.
Spike made his way down further into the tunnel, he’d seen Buffy come this way, probably to slay some big bad, and he knew she was here somewhere.
Then, suddenly, he heard mutterings, and his stomach turned. He knew he was getting close. His heart raced, which made his whole body tingle. He couldn’t wait to tell Buffy where he’d been and what had happened to him. To see her face when he revealed himself to her. He heard her laughter and his heart fluttered. He’d missed her so much.
Finally he saw a flickering light as the tunnel opened up into a small cave. He let his lighter shudder out and pocketed it.
He stepped into the cave and saw her standing there with her back to him, laughing at something. He watched her for a moment, the firelight showing off her radiant beauty, for to him she was the most beautiful girl he’d ever seen. So much so, he had gained his soul, and then his humanity for her.
But the further he entered the cave, the more her laughter seemed to mock him. And he realised that she was actually standing in someone’s embrace.
A pain suddenly erupted within him as he got closer and anger flared up inside. His dreams and visions shattered.
Because as he rounded the corner and got a full view of the situation, what he saw sent shivers down his spine.
Buffy stood, oblivious to Spike’s entrance, in Angel’s arms.

Kissing him.

And as she leaned into his chest, he hung over her shoulder and smiled viciously at the heartbroken Spike, standing alone at the entrance….

Giles picked up the stake which lay in the grass. He had returned with the potentials just in time to hear a yelp from the backyard. He had fought his way to the front of the horde of girls who had scrambled to get to the door.
Now he stood with a worried Xander and Willow on the lawn, and a crowd of onlookers had gathered on the porch.
“She followed Spike after he yelled out. How can they both be gone?!” Willow said worriedly.
“Well… we can’t rule out that it might be The First.” He mused, turning the stake end over end in his fingers.
“Of course. Taking two out of four of our strongest warriors, they weaken our army…” said Robin coming forward.
“And leave us defenceless.” Kennedy sounded. She was pissed and it was obvious.
Giles nodded I think it’s wise if we keep both Faith and Willow in hiding until Buffy and Spike are both found, to be on the safe side. And although I hate to agree, both Buffy and Spike…” he rolled his eyes, “are extremely important to our cause.” He looked back down at the stake.
“And our survival.” Xander sounded.
Giles looked up. “This business with dream-sharing could very well be linked to their disappearance.”
“Or… it’s definitely linked.” Said Wood, bending down and bringing up an object that shocked all but Giles.
He took the syringe from Robin, and it seemed to confirm all his speculations.
“I fear very much what situation they’re both in right now…”

“Buffy?”
It was more a confirmation than anything. He didn’t quite believe it.
She turned suddenly, like a schoolgirl caught in the act.
“Oh my god.” She looked at him wide-eyed, “Spike?” She breathed. He didn’t answer, didn’t dare look at her, just glowered at Angel with hatred.
After everything I’ve done for her…
He began to clench his fists so tightly they shook with rage, and his fingernails dug into the palms, causing blood to drip down onto the ground.
It has to be him…
“Well, well, well.” Angel grinned as Buffy pulled away. “The wanderer returns.”
“Spike… I…I… had no idea… I didn’t know you were back.” Buffy stammered.
If Spike was still a vampire he would have vamped by now.
“And…human” Angel said. At this point he seemed to change. At first he appeared to be a lot like the cruel Angelus. Now he seemed to be the less evil, but still cruel, Angel.
Buffy suddenly froze. “What?” she whispered, stunned. “Human?”
Tears were visibly forming in her eyes now, and he was violently reminded of when she found out about his soul. She tiptoed toward him. She stared into his eyes a moment, so full of anger now, but the closer she got the more innocent they appeared. She put a hand to his face and felt immense guilt take her over. Tears spilled down her face as she felt the warmth of his cheeks on her cool fingers. He softened now, tears coming to his own eyes and he put a hand to her delicate fingers. She felt the warm, tacky blood from his palms and shut her eyes, trying to ease her conscience, but it was no good.
“How…” she breathed through tears.
“For you.” He whispered. And a single tear trickled down his face.
Then he pushed her hand away and knocked her to the ground. He suddenly vamped, but it seemed normal to him, and he looked up at Angel.
“You took her from me!” he growled.
“Spike!” she called desperately from the ground through tears, but she was lost to him now. She had proved once and for all which of the vampires her heart really lay with.

In a fit of rage he began to overturn the tables dressed in lavish decorations, began to claw at the walls and finally, lunge at Angel and beat him for all he was worth and all of the time screaming at the top of his lungs. And although he was in full vamp mode he felt an ache in his heart unlike anything he’d ever felt before.

He’d lost his princess.

Buffy had never seen him so enraged, and her heart broke for him. She’d never realised how much she actually cared for him. She’d seen how he tried, and succeeded in becoming a better man.
For her.
And she’d thrown it in his face.
She watched in horror as a bloodied Angel pleaded for his life, before Spike plunged a shaft of broken wood into his chest and he dusted in seconds.
Then, terrified, she watched him turn on her.
“Bitch.” He cried from the other side of the room, in a voice that resembled nothing like his own. One filled with rage, anger, terror, pain, bloodlust and revulsion.
“Spike, please…” she stammered holding up her hands. But he raced across the room at inhuman speed and grabbed her by the hair. He threw her across the room.
“I gave you EVERYTHING! DID everything! And you still went back to him! Bitch!”
And as she looked up at her lover’s drastic change in horror, he grabbed her upper arms viciously, and sank his fangs deep into her neck….
