Back to Sunnydale: Getting Started (Chapter 4)

"Giles how do you think Buffy's doing? I mean, when we left her she...she looked so...she looked so lost. Like she wasn't even with us anymore," said Xander in a low, soft tone.

"I'm not really sure I know how she's doing, but I'm sure that Willow is doing the best she can to help her," said Giles, "Right now we just have to find a place to perform the spell."

"That's another thing. How do we get Willow to help with the spell without Buffy knowing? I mean we can't just leave her alone. We don't know what she'll do if she's alone. She's already out of it. Imagine what she'll do if she gets worse. She's already made herself bleed by digging without thought."

"You do have a point there, but we'll just have to do the best we can. Once its over it really can't get much worse anyway."

"Oh trust me, Giles. It CAN get worse, and it WILL get worse if this plan fails."

While Giles and Xander were on their way back to get Willow for the spell, Willow was still with Buffy, trying to talk her back from the world she was in.

"Buffy, you wanna...you wanna tell me a joke?" asked Willow, trying to enlighten the mood.

Buffy just sat there staring off into space, not making a sound at all.

"Ok, so you want to tell me a story instead? How about the last time you slew a big bad vampire? What was that like?" asked Willow again, trying to get her to come back.

Again there was only silence as Buffy lay there in Willows arms staring into the darkness around them. She stared without thought as though she had been scared into shock by something.

"Oh Buffy! Please, just say something!" said Willow as she pulled her closer and started rocking her again. She even started to cry, hoping that Giles and Xander would be back soon.

Giles and Xander were getting closer and closer to the spot where they had left Willow and Buffy. As they started to come into site Willow looked up to meet the gaze of the headlights. She gently removed Buffy from her lap and placed her on the ground. Then she ran towards the vehicle. The car stopped, and Giles and Xander got out. They grabbed the supplies and started towards Willow.

"So, are we ready to perform the spell?" asked Willow.

"I believe so," said Giles, "We just need a place to perform the spell, and judging by the looks of it we don't really need to worry about that now do we."

"Willow, what about Buffy?" asked Xander, "Is she gonna be alright? Where is she?"

"She'll be...ok, I guess. Right now she's in her own world. Just look at her! I don't know how to get her back," said Willow.

"Well, lets not worry about that right now, and lets concentrate on the spell. If it works then we'll be sure to get her back anyway," said Giles.

"Well, how about we start it now instead of tomorrow and having everything get worse," said Xander, trying to hurry them along.

The three of them started walking away from where Buffy was lying. After walking for about ten minutes they finally decided to stop and set everything up to perform the spell.
