It made no difference what they thought of her as she sped down the street. Things were all so new again; even the one’s whose presences alone should have brought her comfort, the people who used to supply a sense of home, caused her to feel alarmingly out of place.
When she had answered the phone, the overwhelming sickness in the very pit of her stomach found ease, and her skin, as cold as ice, grew warm. Her whole being rejoiced, melting into ecstasy as if she were being enveloped in a soft, warm, familiar, blanket; fresh from the dryer. His words he need not have spoken, his desire needn’t have been expressed, for the moment his voice sounded-- no, before she ever heard his words, her bones ached for his touch; her eyes longed for his gorgeous features; her heart beat only for his unconditional love; her soul cried at only the thought of the peace it would be granted by his very presence. Right now she needed to be by the only person whose company never failed to send her spiraling into sheer wonderment of the beautifully serene bliss that flowed from his essence; his exalted soul.
Her thoughts raced around inside her mind. She felt as though she was programmed to return to him, to seek him out whenever he pushed a button. But it was more than that, some sort of animal instinct inside of her yearned for the comfort of his words, his touch, his soul; this feeling drove her towards her mate, her lover, the only person who was able to make such an indentation on her as claiming her whole heart, only for him to love. His unknown steel barricade remanded strong inside her breast. It held fast and continued to repel all of her mind’s thoughts of love that didn’t lie with him. How she was supposed to move on with her life when she could offer nothing of pure love to anyone? It all still remained a mystery to her, even after two long years.
“If I were blind I would see you…” Her thoughts drifted upon the words he’d spoken to her in that long ago dream. Only now did she realize the truth in those immortal words. The crumpled directions she now clutched in her sweaty hand against the steering were completely irrelevant. They held no importance. She was sure someone could create a reality TV show called “Where’s Angel?” People would then hind her love in random vamp-safe, sun-free spots around the world. And she; she would be sent out to find him. Naturally, the producers would time her quests and pay for the airfare. Each week the audience would be amazed by her overwhelmingly low times. This would go on for maybe two seasons before the audience would grow old of the insane concept and the show would then be canceled…
The slit-your-wrist traffic that she, as a non driver, was always a victim of hearing people bitch about, seemed to have taken a well deserved vacation. She barreled down the highway at a frighteningly high speed, efficiently eliminating the distance between herself and her destination as the seconds passed. She noticed a car only here and there. The slight part of her mind still capable of making reasonable decisions, had turned the cruise control on; the rest of her mind focusing again on their conversation earlier.
He had mentioned somewhere in the middle; a cabin? She couldn’t remember. God she felt deficient. How the hell has she managed to forget where she was going? At least I still have the directions…
It felt as though there was an invisible cable connecting her to him. It was attached somewhere in her stomach and pulled her in what she guessed was the direction of the immortal one she sought out.
The open car window to her left that had only minutes ago offered a cool refreshing breeze which Buffy herself was very thankful for, now littered her entire body with water droplets. She was so anxious she was shaking. The steady beat of the cool wind colliding against the car and finding it’s was through the window and into her hair had been a temporary luxury. Buffy quickly moved to close the window before she resembled a wet mop. She’s been so lost in thought that she’s allowed plenty of time for the rain to penetrate her now soaked clothing so that it now uncomfortably clung to her. Oh, now THIS is attractive.
The sky above her exploded in thunder and the clouds cried the tears of the heavens. Was heaven where she’d been? Where was heaven if there even was one? Were there multiple heavens? If so, where were they; above the clouds somewhere between the Earth’s atmosphere and space? Was it below the dirt? In a different dimension? Who decided who got in; God? Was there A God; as the almighty? The Big Kahuna? Had she completely lost her mind?
