Dear Angel: Accidentally Sent

by inlovewithangel

Meanwhile back at the Summers’ house, Joyce was out of town, and Buffy was enjoying this fact by spending the morning in bed with Riley, her boyfriend.

I better go shower,” Riley said, smiling, as he leaned down to kiss the woman he loved. She nodded.

As soon as he had left the room, Buffy remembered something. She went over to her desk to pick up and destroy the letter she had never planned to send. Three days ago, Buffy had read a magazine that claimed that writing a letter to the person you loved or hated or whatever, was supposed to make you feel better. She had put it an envelope, wrote Angel’s name on it and sealed it, planning to burn it or something ceremonious like that. As Buffy, more anxiously, scrambled around on her desk, searching for the letter, Dawn came in.

“Whatcha lookin’ for?” Dawn asked, still in her pajamas.

“Don’t you have to be at school?” Buffy asked, distracted.

“Duh, it’s Saturday,” Dawn said, rolling her eyes. “Seriously, Buffy, what are you looking for? I could’ve put it somewhere when I was cleaning your room the other day.”

Buffy turned around to look at her not-exactly-human little sister. “What?”

“I was just trying to be nice. God. Won’t do you anymore favors from now on.” Dawn was about to leave when Buffy stopped her.

“Did you see a-a letter?” Buffy asked, hoping that Dawn wasn’t going to answer what she already knew she was.

“To Angel? I mailed it.” Buffy’s mouth dropped open. “Once again, just trying to be nice.” Dawn walked away. Buffy lifted her hands and raked them through her hair. This is so bad, she thought. So bad, so bad, so bad, so bad, she kept repeating to herself over and over as she picked up the phone to call Willow.

“Hello?” Tara’s sleepy voice came from the other end.

“Hey Tara, is Willow there?” Buffy was trying to keep it together, but panic was rising in her chest.

“Hey Buff.”

“Willow, oh my God, remember that letter I told you about? Dawn mailed it by mistake and now I don’t know what to do I’m freaking out what if he’s read it oh my God,” Buffy said in one breath.

“Angel has the letter? Okay, relax. I’ll be right over.” Just then a knock sounded from downstairs.

“I’ve got to go, someone’s at the door.”

“See you in a few.”

As Buffy made her way downstairs, she had this crazy fear that it would be Angel, but when she pulled the door open, it was only a grinning Xander, holding a bag of donuts.

“Hello! I come with donuts.” For a minute, Buffy forgot about Angel, and the letter, and just looked at her good friend.

“My hero.” She stepped out of his way. “Come in. Will’s on her way.”

“Great! We can chow down and partay!” Buffy just sort of looked at Xander. “Hey, I was trying it. Never mind then.” He pretended to be hurt.

They went into the kitchen and set the donuts down. Just then, they heard another knock.

“That must be Will,” Buffy said. “I’ll get it. Put the donuts on a plate.” Buffy ran to the door. The knocking started again, more urgent, harder. “I’m coming, relax.”

She reached the door and yanked it open. All color drained from her face. Angel was there, under a blanket, but all Buffy could do was stare.
