Disclaimer: ok none of the characters except Barry, Sergei, and the Wander, belong to me. Everything else belongs to Joss Whedon, the WB, and everyone else associated with buffy the vampire slayer.
Author's Notes: I just want you to know that I started writing the story before the new season started. I'm writing other stories, making this a series. I guess you could say I'm starting my own buffyverse.
thanks...and enjoy

The bus pulled up to a sign that said: Welcome to Sunnydale, Please enjoy your stay. The driver opened the door and the man stepped out. He walked into the station and passed a man behind a large desk, who looked up and said, "Sir we need to check your bags."
The man kept walking so he ran out from behind the desk and stood in front of the stranger.
"Excuse me, did you hear what I said?" The desk clerk asked him.
The man pushed him out of the way, throwing him against the wall knocking him unconscious. A security guard nearby stood up from his chair and ran in front of the man, also getting pushed away. He immediately got up and stood directly behind him and shot him in the back.
The man yelled in agony and turned around, his face in vampire form. He grabbed the cop by the neck, sunk his fangs into it, and left the station into the vast darkness of the night.

Buffy walked past the abandoned gas station, when inside the lights came on and she saw movement.
she thought to herself. She made her way to the door and kicked it open, just to be knocked into a wall by a vampire. Buffy looked up just as an african-american boy staked it.
The boy helped her up and said, "You must be Buffy."
"Please don't tell me you're the new slayer," Buffy said.
"No I'm not but I was sent here by Kendra's watcher. He sent me to help me with something called the Wanderer," He said.
"The Wanderer? What's that?" Buffy asked.
I don't know. Her watcher said to get to *your* watcher and tell him the Wanderer is coming. By the way, my name's Barry," He told her.
"Well, let's go."

Buffy and Barry walked into the library only to find Giles surrounded by stacks of books.
"Um Giles? What's with all the books?" Buffy asked.
"Oh…Buffy and…someone else," Giles said.
"Hi, I'm Barry," Barry told him as he reached out his hand.
"How do you do-"
"Is that the second volume of Pisetto's journal?" Barry asked.
"Why yes. But how did you know that?" Giles asked him.
Buffy interrupted and said, "Okay, anyway Barry worked with Kendra and her watcher sent him to help us with-"
"The Wanderer?" Giles interrupted.
"Yeah but how did you?" said Buffy as Giles held up a newspaper clipping. Buffy had only read the heading, which said: Local bus station attack by out of towner; two dead. When Barry said, "Whoa."
"Yes, Whoa," Giles said, "The Wanderer is whoa actually. In fact he goes from place to place picking out people to feed on. As soon as he feeds he moves onto a different place. It's simple really."
"So all we have to do is wait?" Buffy asked.
"Well I suppose. Unless he comes after one of us," Giles answered.
"If he does I'll kill him," Buffy said.
"I don't know if it will be that easy Buffy," said Giles, "The Wanderer is supposedly very powerful and strong."
Well in the mean time I guess I'll show Barry around campus," Buffy said as she hopped down from the table she was sitting on and walked towards the doors just as Xander and Willow walked in. They said hi to Buffy and walked towards Giles with strange looks on their faces.
"Who's the new kid on the block?" Xander asked.
"Oh. That's Barry. He worked with Kendra and her watcher. He came to help us with the Wanderer," Giles answered him.
"The Wanderer?" Willow asked.
"Yes," Giles said as he took off his glasses, "The Wanderer."

Buffy walked down the hall next to Barry in full conversation.
"So the school's ok but the Dean sucks. I mean not only does he hate me because I'm the slayer, he's also been pissed lately because a giant demon almost ate him. He was the principal at our high school, too," said Buffy.
"Well do you think he'll let me start attending the school?" Barry asked.
"Probably, Snyder loves new students. -" Buffy said, but stopped short when the lights above them turned dark.
Snyder's voice came over the intercom sounding scared," Attention all Hall students. Please report to the Hall auditorium for an important assembly."
"Is that Snyder?" Barry asked, "He sounds scared of something."
"Yeah. Do you think we should check it out?" Buffy said.
"Sure," Barry said, and they started off towards the auditorium.
* * *
"So we should watch out for any larger then normal vampires wandering around?" Willow asked.
"Yes. Well that's just about it." Giles said.
"Ok. Well I'll tell Oz."
"And I'll tell Anya," Xander said.
"Anya?" Willow asked.
"Oh. Yeah. Over the summer we sort of grew close," Xander answered.
"Oh…….ok. Well, I guess I'll be going now," Willow said as she walked to the door. She turned the handle and pushed on it, but the door wouldn't budge.
"Giles? Is there something wrong with the door?" She asked.
"No. It's perfectly fine, why?" Giles asked.
"Because it's not opening."
"Here, let a man show you how it's done," Xander said as he got up and walked to the door, but he didn't have any luck, either.
"Giles, we're stuck," said Willow.

Buffy peered through the window of the auditorium door.
"Looks ok. Principal Snyder's standing behind a podium on the stage," Buffy said, "Lets go in."
They opened the doors and sat down in the back row just as Snyder started to talk.
"Well assuming you're all here, I'm just going to start," He said, "We have a very special guest for you today. So pay attention. Yes that means you Mr. Green Mohawk boy. Anyway let me introduce you to…… Well I guess you'll find out soon enough."
Snyder left the stage and the auditorium went dark. A light came on, on the stage and they could see the outline of a man.
"Hello children," He said, "My name is… well, actually the only people who know my name are dead. You can call me the Wanderer, though."
"Shit," Buffy said, then whispered to Barry," Let's get out of here and tell Giles, ok?"
"Yeah, ok," He said.
The got up and started walking to the door when the Wanderer said, "YOU," pointing towards Buffy.
Buffy turned around, her eyes wide. "Come up here," He said as the lights came on.
"Just play along. You don't want everybody here to know you're the slayer," said Barry..
"Yeah, ok," Buffy said as she walked forward to the stage.
Barry started to follow her, but got held back by two vampires who held him as he struggled to get away.
Buffy saw people looking at her and heard them whispering things about her as she walked up to the stage. She walked up the steps and stood a few feet away from the Wanderer.
"What is your name?" He asked.
"Buffy," She replied.
"Hmm… Buffy… come closer," He said. Buffy did so and he said, "Nice neck. To bad I'm going to chew it up."
Buffy's eyes narrowed and she swung her fist. The Wanderer grabbed it before her hand reached his face. He cracked her wrist sideways and threw her in the air across the room. Buffy slammed into a wall and fell to the floor. Barry got away from the vampires and ran over to her. She was unconscious. He looked up as the Wanderer said, "Men, come on. Let's get out of here," as he left the stage.
The vampires all around the room scattered out and Barry picked up Buffy. He ran out of the doors and carried Buffy out into the courtyard.
"Help!" He said, "Can anyone help me?"
Oz ran up to him.
"Buffy!" He said, "What happened to her?"
Barry stared at him, trying to figure out if he knew Buffy's secret when Oz said, "Vampires?"
"Yes, Barry said with relief, "I need to get her to the Giles, but I don't remember where the library is. Can you show me?"
"Sure," Oz said, "Follow me."

Giles, Willow, and Xander where sitting there trying to figure out how to get the door open when the door opened.
"Okay, do you guys know we're supposed to be in the-" Anya said
"NO! Don't shut the" Xander yelled, then calmly said after Anya closed it, "door."
"What?" Anya asked.
"The door won't open from the inside you idiot," said Xander.
"Well how was I supposed to know? I'm not a mind reader," Anya yelled at him.
"Okay you guys just calm down-" Willow said as Oz and Barry burst through the doors.
"Buffy!" Giles said as Barry laid her down on a table, "Barry, what happened to her?"
"The Wanderer threw her against a wall," Barry said.
"The Wanderer……he was here?" Giles asked.
"Yeah in the auditorium-"
"See I told you we were supposed to be in the auditorium," Anya said.
"Anya shut up," Xander said coldly as Buffy's eyes fluttered open.
"Giles?…Barry?…" Buffy said and suddenly sat up panicking, "Oh god, the Wanderer. Giles the-"
"Buffy. Buffy! It's ok he's gone," Giles said.
"Giles…I was so scared. When he threw me off the stage…I thought I was going to die," Buffy told him.
"It's okay Buffy," Giles said as he hugged her, "It's okay."

The Wanderer sat in his throne tapping his fingers on the cold gray stone. The cave was the perfect place for his vampire headquarters.
"Sergei," He said as a well-built vampire stepped out of the shadows.
"Yes sire?" Sergei said.
"You're probably wondering why we haven't left yet," The Wanderer said.
"Well, yes sire," Sergei said, "We've stayed in this place longer than any other place before."
"Sergei, as you know, this place does hold the Mouth of Hell," said the Wanderer.
"Is that reason we haven't left yet sire?" Sergei asked.
"No Sergei, there is another reason," answered the Wanderer," Do you remember that girl in the school auditorium?"
"The blond one sire?" Sergei asked.
"Yes that's her," The Wanderer said, "There was something about her."
"She tried to fight you?" Sergei suggested.
"No, it was something else," said the Wanderer, "I don't know what yet, But believe me Sergei, I'm going to find out."

Buffy sat staring into nothing thinking about the Wanderer. < I could have died. The Wanderer had barely touched me and I had been knocked unconscious. This guy was very powerful- >
"So were IS Barry?" Willow asked.
"What?" Buffy said snapping out of her daze.
"Buffy have you heard anything I just said?" Willow asked.
"No I'm sorry Will," Buffy said, "I've just been thinking."
"About Angel," Willow said.
"No. I haven't had much time to think about him," Buffy replied, "Actually, I've been thinking about the Wanderer."
"Hmmm. Well just don't think too hard, okay?" Willow said, "I have to go. It's my turn to watch Oz in the cage tonight. Be careful, okay?"
"Yeah, ok. Bye Will," Buffy said.
"Bye," said Willow as she got up from the table and walked away.

Buffy walked down the dark street. She started to let her mind drift. To the Wanderer…to Angel. Angel. She missed him so much. She didn't understand why he left. And why he hadn't communicated with her yet. Or even why a vampire was pulling a blond teenage girl into the alley.
Buffy slowly followed the vampire and the girl the girl trying to be left unnoticed. As the vampire tilted his head to the girl's neck, Buffy walked slowly behind them. She was just about to stake the vampire when her foot crunched down on an aluminum can. The vampire's head snapped up and Buffy took a step backward. He turned around and Buffy saw that he wasn't a vampire at all. The boy stared coldly at Buffy and he muttered something to the girl. The couple walked down the alley, leaving Buffy staring after them.
Buffy thought
Buffy turned around to start walking back, but something was blocking her. She looked up and stared right into the face of the Wanderer.
"Why hello," He said.
"What do you want?" asked Buffy as she backed up away from him.
"It's…Buffy, Isn't it?" the Wanderer said.
"Maybe. What's in it for you?" Buffy replied.
"I want to know who you are," He said.
"You know my name, what more could you want?" She asked.
"I want to know your secret," the Wanderer answered.
"My secret? Oh, yeah. That one," Buffy said, "Wow. I can't believe you don't know I'm the slayer. How could you not know I'm the slayer? Oh, wait. I probably shouldn't have told you that shouldn't have I.
"Oh no, the slayer hmm? Well, that just makes everything better," the Wanderer told her.
"Oh yeah? How so?" Buffy asked.
"It's gonna be more fun when I kill you," He replied.
"Why you, god dam-" Buffy said when she got interrupted by the Wanderer punching her directly in the jaw.
Buffy got up immediately and swung her arm, but he grabbed it, and once again threw her against the wall. She got up and out of nowhere Barry appeared with a giant cross. The Wanderer hissed and walked away slowly, not turning his back.
"Barry, what are you doing here?" Buffy asked.
"Well I was with Giles and Oz in the library when Willow said you could have used some company. I just started looking for you." Barry answered.
"Oh, well…" Buffy said as the Wanderer turned the corner, "lets follow him. Try to find out where he's hiding. Come on, let's go." Buffy and Barry started to run.

Anya walked swiftly beside Xander, who said, "So you didn't even like the part where the guy jumped off the cliff and into the lake just to get away from the swarm of bees?"
"Xander, did it not occur to you that I made you leave the movie because it was the most incoherent thing I've ever seen?"
"In other words…" said Xander
"I hated it. I mean who would pay-" Anya said and screamed when the Wanderer ran out in front of them and grabbed her by the neck.
Xander grabbed the Wanderer's arm only to be thrown in the air. Xander crashed into a large window, which shattered as he flew into the building. Anya struggled to get out of the Wanderer's strong grasp, but started wheezing when he enclosed his fingers tighter around her throat. The Wanderer lifted Anya's neck to his mouth just as Buffy and Barry ran out into the street.
Buffy slammed her foot into the Wanderer's temple and knocked him to the ground.
"You just couldn't resist it could you," Buffy told him as Barry helped Anya over to the building Xander was in.
The Wanderer looked up at her and the two stared at each other coldly. The Wanderer suddenly jumped up and knocked her to the ground. He jumped on top of her and said, "I'm gonna kill you right here… I'll do it fast. You won't even feel it."
He stared into Buffy's wide eyes and tilted his head towards her neck. Buffy struggled to get out from under him but his weight was too strong. She gasped as his fangs touched her flesh. In an instance the Wanderer got up from Buffy, yelling wildly. He ran down the street followed by a trail of steam.
Buffy looked up and saw Barry holding a bottle with a cross on it.
"Holy water?" she asked, holding out her hand.
"It was the only thing I could think of," Barry answered as he helped her up.
The two walked over to where the pieces of glass were lying on the ground. At the same time, Anya and Xander, with cuts all over his face, walked out of the building.
* * *
"Sire, shall I get our things?" Sergei asked the Wanderer as he came through the entrance to the cave.
"No Sergei," the Wanderer told him, "We won't be leaving here until…"
"Until what, Sire?" Sergei said.
"Until…the slayer is dead."
