A Bittersweet Goodbye: Part 1
by Wish
Disclaimer: I own so little of nothing I barley own this disclaimer. Buffy, Angel, and everybody not even mentioned don't belong to me. They belong to Joss "God of all things" Wheadon, the little "Grr Arrgg" guy and all those people who I've never ever met. All I do is beg at the table for table scrapes, anything I can get. Anyway, I do own this story (Ha Ha I own the story, nana na nahhhhh! Sorry) so please do put it out there, but ask me first.
I live on feed back so, I'll take any. I don't really like those spicy flames, but I eat them anyway (table scraps, remember?).
A warning, this is a product of way too many sad eps on the show's part, and way to much time (late at night) on my part. This is very bittersweet and hopefully if I wrote it right, you may need a tissue or two. I am a romance lover deep down (wayyyyyyyy down) and tried to make this good. Angel's pretty much already dead, and that comes in major factor here.

She looked around.
"Come out, come out where ever you are..."
"Sure. You just have to promise not to kill me." A familiar voice came out of the shadows.
"I think you know the answer to that one, Angelus. Now are you a coward or a vampire? Wait, those two go together pretty good. Any ways, show your sorry vampire butt, now."
* * *
Angel was shocked. But he was glad too. He was looking from above at the pending battle between his old body and the Vampire Slayer he loved. The one reason he was trapped in limbo. Namely, Buffy. It was about time she got around to slaying Angelus. Dear, god he missed her. When the demon got control of his body, after the night with Buffy, he, or at least his soul got trapped in limbo. That meant he wasn't in heaven or hell. Although it seemed like hell sometimes. Like when she was right there, within his reach, or so it seemed. Or when Angelus killed, again. Angel watched the pending battle with interest, wondering what would happen to him when his body was slayed. If it was Angelus who would end up dead, again. Hoping that it would be Angelus who was destroyed.

"Well, lover, this seems like the end for us. Unless..." A though had entered Angelus's mind.
"Unless what, demon? This gets boring, ya know? The Master did have a point there." Buffy said, looking at her finger nails, but still alert.
"Unless, we spend infinity together. I really should have thought of this before. I drink your blood, you drink my blood, you know, "the whole big sucking thing"... Angelus said, recalling the words Buffy told Angel she'd said at one time.
"That, that's ...sick," Buffy replied, at a loss for words.
"Yeah, it is, isn't it? I said it before, I'll say it again, I should have thought of it sooner. Hmm. But I think we'll find out at the end of this, huh?" Angelus asked. Without an answer, he seemed to fly in Buffy's direction.
"Oh boy", She muttered right before she managed to dodge away from Angelus. He slowed, however and kicked her in the face before she found a stake. She'd been out hunting and was running out of stakes. In fact, she'd just been heading home to sneak in and get enough to finish her patrol. Buffy ducked down and grabbed the stake she'd just used on a pervious vamp and shielded her face from Angelus's punch. her arm flew around his left side, the one he left unprotected when he punched. The stake made a gash in his leather jacket, but Angelus grabbed Buffy's arm before the stake could reach his black heart. He twisted her arm.
"Now, say mercy, when you need me to let go, _Buff_."Angelus sneered.
"Mercy," She said. He let go, surprised that she answered.
* * *
* Good going, Buffy * Angel thought. She'd definitely been studying up Angelus. She'd decided the only way to beat him was the give him a taste of his of medicine. To psyche him out. * That's the only way Buffy *
* * *
"You know, Angelus, I've been thinking during this fight so far-uh!" Buffy said between kicking, punching, and shielding. "I was thinking, why would I want to, grow old and get ugly, die, never see you again? Why- *punch* would *kick* I * block* want *thrust* that? I'd like to take you up on your offer."
"What?!"
* * *
* What?! *
* * *
"You serious, lover?" Angelus stopped fighting, amazed. Buffy had said it so sweetly, so real , so _ sensually _, that Angelus believed her.
"No." With that Buffy pulled up the staked, and faster then a human could see, staked the amazed Angelus. A white mist filled the air around Buffy, sweeping her up, up, up, in to a light...
* * *
"No." Angel watched Buffy stake Angelus in one swift motion. A white mist filled the space around Angel, sweeping him, down, down, down, to a green light... And they met some where in between.
"Wow." Buffy's word seemed to dissipate in to the air, only there long enough for the word to fill Angel's ears. He didn't realize that he took her voice for granted until he heard it for the first time in so long.
"I know. I missed you." Angel's words seemed to dissipate in to the air, only there long enough for the words to fill Buffy's ears. She realized how much she's missed his soft tones, spoken only the way a lover's could.
"Where are we?" Buffy asked.
"I don't know, but I don't think we'll be here for long. Together or not." Angel answered.
"You always have been the bearer of bad news," Buffy said as they kissed, passionately.
* Always _have_ been? Doesn't she realize I'm dead? *
"You're not dead," Buffy said, for in this lover's paradise they could read each other's thoughts and doubts. For it seemed they were one.
"Buffy, I love you. But I- I'm," The word "dead" got caught in Angel's throat.
"Don't you know I love you, and that I know you love me? If it weren't for that Angelus would have drove me insane along time ago. I dreamt about you watching over me all the time, Angel, just like you always will." They kissed again and it seemed to last for eternity, sweet, passionate, ever lasting, the best kiss they'd ever had. It was they're last.
"I love you, Buffy..."
"I love you, Angel..."
"I'll miss you, Buffy..."
"I'll miss you, Angel... "
"Good bye..." The said as one as the forces of nature tore them apart, Angel whisked upwards, the freedom of not feeling guilty making him so light, Buffy dragged downwards, the price of being alive...
