Darling, Pinch Me If I'm Dreaming: Part 2

by Geoffrey Alexander

Buffy the Vampire Slayer and her many friends are creations of Joss Whedon and, therefor, are his property. The story line for "Darling..." is an original work and, therefor, my property. None of the characters besides the Author and Joss Whedon are mine.

The character depiction of Joss Whedon is not accurate. I have never met him and do not know his mannerism and/or appearance. The character Joss in no way reflects the real Joss.

Part Two

Buffy awoke rather abruptly and found herself licking her lips. The memories of the all-too-vivid, "Xander" dream were still fresh in mind. She had this uncontrollable longing to experience that in reality sense. Her own feelings towards Xander surprised herself.

Buffy rose slowly from the bed. Her long, silk nightgown fell to the floor as she yawned away the lingering sensation of sleep. Opening the blinds to her window, she discovered it was still dark. The clock confirmed her suspicion: 4:39 am. Buffy groaned in disbelief and crashed to the bed. She lay there for a moment and then she decided to get a glass of water.

Buffy moved to the door and opened it. Suddenly, the room was filled with a blinding light. The luminescence shed from the hallway engulfed Buffy's room in a pale, white glow. She shielded her eyes from the light as she stumbled her way through the hallway and into the kitchen.

Only, the kitchen wasn't there. The hallway itself seemed to morph into the scene around her. The graveyard stretched out in front of her, barren and foreboding. She looked back to the eerily lit hallway she had just exited. Curiosity got the best of her, so she continued forward. The moist grass and ground squished between her bare toes and sent a small tickle through her legs. The crisp night air blew gently through her hair. The wind tossed her nightgown to and fro, pressing the silk close to her body.

She had to be dreaming, she knew it. But it all seemed so real. The colors, the sounds, her very senses felt alive and alert. Suddenly, a well-built man with glasses and a dashing smile grabbed her. His expression read terror.

"Sarah!" he said with anxiety, "Something's gone terribly wrong!"

"What are you talking about? Are you talking to me?" Buffy asked in confusion. Her head was spinning.

"He snapped, I knew he'd snap. I should have never hired that ass!" the deranged man seemed to talk to himself more than Buffy. He turned back to her. "You really have no idea what's going on, do you?" Buffy shook her head. The stranger took a deep breath and took Buffy by her silk-covered shoulders. "My name is Joss Whedon. I created a show called Buffy the Vampire Slayer. You stare in it! You, Nick, David, Allyson, Stewart --"

Joss paused at Buffy's facial expression. "Xander, Angel, Willow, Giles, the 'cast'?" Buffy nodded in stupid understanding.

"So, I'm Sarah?" Buffy asked with raised eyebrows.

Joss nodded and exhaled loudly. "And now it's all gone down the toilet. All because of… " Something caught Joss's eye and he shifted his head to look into the brush. "… Because of him." Joss pointed at a figure in a flowing black cloak. Its face was hidden from sight. The only clue to the fact he had a face was the deep blue embers burning in place of a normal human's eyes. The creature suddenly fired a bolt from his fist, taking a tree to the ground with a fiery wreck. Buffy jumped on Joss and forced him to the ground, shielding his body from the burning branches.

The creature, the tree, and soon its burning branches were all gone. Buffy found herself lying on the Joss's well-toned body. He smiled quickly.

"Damn, you are beautiful," he spoke with a smile, " I knew there was a reason I hired you." And with that, Joss was gone. The graveyard, the bright hallway, the dewy grass, they all disappeared. Buffy crashed into a dark slumber upon the enormous bed she was lying on, a bed that wasn't her own and she knew it...
