The Listener: Chapter 2
by stargirl
Willow crept along the alley, following the two vampires. She was silent, breathing easily and not making any noise. She was covered by the darkness, and when she passed a streetlight, she stayed well behind the boxes, tossed aside by the shop owners. The two vampires were talking, one blond, one black headed. The blonde one had a British accent, a long black coat on and was talking most out of the two. The black headed one was tall, dressed casually and was nodding, not listening at all. Willow couldn’t get risk getting to close as she would give the game away, so couldn’t pick up the conversation.
Suddenly, the blonde one stopped and sniffed the air. As soon as he stopped, Willow did and crouched low. Then, in a surprised tone he said, “Red?” Willow knew almost instantly, when the vampire had said this, it was Spike. In her rush she stood up instantly, and then realised she had totally blown it.
“Hey Spike. Oh-“ As she realised what she had done she sighed. “Oh well, rather now than later.” The black headed guy suddenly paid attention, and turned bumpy. Spike noticed as the guy took a step forward, he put out his arm.
“Tell him what I said. You know where I’ll be.” The guy looked at Spike, then at Willow. He kept his eyes on her and was about to take another step forward when he realised Spike arm. “I said now.” Spike said again. The guy stepped backwards, licked his lips, and then ran down the alley to wherever he was meant to go.
“I see your companies changed.” Willow said sarcastically.
“Why are you out here?” He looked behind her in hope. “Is Buffy with you?” He needed to show her he had changed, with a new soul freshly worked for.
“Erm – no.” She didn’t want to go into detail. “I need a demon bar. Can you take me? I thought you and that guy were going to one.”
“Hey.” He put up his hands in defence. “I won’t ask as long as you don’t ask where I have been.”
“Deal.” Willow wanted him out the way and to get to a bar.
“Then follow me.”
Buffy sat at home, on the sofa, patiently waiting for the phone to ring. Her search came out unsuccessful, leaving her with no better idea as to where Willow was or why she went. Spike was no where to be found either. Dawn was sat too, thinking only the worse things. She didn’t want to think them, but she knew something inside was wrong. They sat in silence, both deeply thinking. Suddenly, the phone rang. Buffy jumped and stood up quickly, then ran to the phone and picked up. “Hello?”
“Has she called yet?” A voice said in a strong English accent.
“No.”
“There is nothing here. No one has track of her or if anything is wrong.”
“Well, get off the line ‘cause she may be ringing.” Buffy hung up and returned to the sofa with Dawn.
“Spike, are you lying to me?” Willow was stood in front of an old factory wall and Spike had opened, what seemed to Willow, an imaginary door. He shrugged his shoulders and stepped through the door he could see perfectly well. To Willow, he disappeared. She panicked. “Spike?!” He stepped back out again, grabbed her arm and then pulled her inside.
She wasn’t exactly shocked as to what she saw – it was a demon bar. More surprised. There were tables all on her right and in the middle, some with chairs, then a bar to her left. By the side of that was a white fire door, with the green exit sign on it. Willow wasn’t sure why they had it. She put it down to health and safety regulations.
Tables were occupied by all sorts of demons playing what seemed to be card games, a few vampires scattered around drinking blood from shot glasses then two normal looking people sat at the bar on stools. The bar woman looked familiar to Willow but she didn’t know why. Before she had time to think, Spike pulled her over to the table in the corner and slumped down into a chair.
They sat in silence for about five minutes, both shifting uncomfortably, when the door Willow and Spike came through burst open. In came the black haired vampire from before, with what must have been his gang. They all snarled and in an instant had vampire faces. The two men sat at the bar did the same and joined in. Spike took one look at them, then back to Willow. “Must do this again sometime Red.” He walked quickly across the room and tried to make his way across to the fire door. The vampires scanned the room, trying to see through the demons and over crowded tables. Someone must have spotted him, because they all started moving towards the fire door. Spike got there just before they did and kicked it down, then ran. The gang followed him and went out of sight. Now, Willow thought. Down to the real business.
