The paramedics tried to revive Giles, but he was beyond help. The
police questioned Joyce and the others about the events of the night
and left. The group split up to look for Buffy. Amy and Cordelia
stayed at the house in case she came back or called. Chris and
Xander went to check out the Master's old lair. Joyce, Willow, and
Oz went to the library. They found Buffy there, sitting at one of
the tables. She barely acknowledged their existence, saying only,
"It killed Angel." As soon as they got her home, they took Buffy
straight up to her room to sleep.

Shortly afterwards, Chris and Xander came back. Chris reported, "We
found the stone shattered. No sign of anything else."

Joyce told them, "Buffy was in the library. She said Angel was dead.
She seemed like she was in shock. She's upstairs sleeping now."

Chris nodded, "We'll let her rest. If she saw Azathoth directly then..."
He paused and continued, "Still, she might feel better tomorrow."

The next day Willow, Xander, Cordelia, and Oz walked to Buffy's house
after school. When Joyce answered the front door, Willow asked, "Is
Buffy in?"

Joyce replied in a worried voice, "She's upstairs in her room. She's
hardly left it since last night. I'll tell her you're here." Joyce then
went upstairs. She came down shortly afterwards and told them, "Buffy
said she doesn't want to see anyone."

Willow replied, "She'll see me," and went up to Buffy's room. Buffy was
sitting on her bed, staring at the wall. Willow asked hesitantly,
"Can I come in?" Buffy didn't respond. Willow continued, "Oz,
Xander and Cordelia are downstairs. We thought we might head to the
Bronze tonight. I talked to Chris. He said a new watcher should be
sent in a few days. He also said the watcher will probably also be
the new librarian."

Buffy said in a flat tone, "I saw Angel die. It hit him and he turned to
dust right in front of me."

Willow tried to comfort her, "I'm really sorry. Is there anything at all
I can do to help?"

Buffy shook her head and in the same flat tone responded "I'll be all
right eventually, I think. The medallion's gone. The one I found in my
father's house. Giles said it might have protective powers. I had it
when we entered the tunnels. It was gone when I woke up in the library.
I'm tired, Willow, I need to rest."

Clearly worried, Willow walked over to Buffy. She began to say, "Buffy,
I..."

Buffy interrupted, "Don't worry, Willow, I'll be fine. I just need some
time."

Willow considered for a few moments and finally said, "All right. I'll
come by again tomorrow. Or maybe we can talk at school?" Buffy didn't
say anything but tried to smile.
