I got out.

A year and a half ago.

So why didn't I go back to them, right then and there?

I needed to get things in motion. I wanted to go back, so much, but what could I do against the First Evil?

Getting things in motion? You know, getting my team together, which I can tell you has not been an easy task. I was so glad the Gunmen were there when we got to Mulder and Scully, or this time I really would have gotten shot.

It took them hours to calm down enough to listen, well Mulder anyway.

I told them my story, you know, basically the same thing I told the 'Scoobies' two years ago. I added in the bit about the guys. How they're my contacts with my bosses.

I think they believe me, in fact I think they have done so for about two months. They just don't trust me, and they've lost the faith they had in Frohicke, Langly and Byers.

I hate that this has broken their friendships, but I know that one day, maybe soon or maybe when this is all over, they'll be fixed and I will be trusted.

They thought they knew 'the truth', Mulder and Scully, but that date, December 22nd 2012, is just the beginning. And maybe we can stop it years before, or maybe we'll stop it just in the nick of time, or maybe we'll fail.

I don't know all the answers, but we have to try. If you had the chance to stop the end of the world, wouldn't you try?

It's all you can do, try and hope and pray.

And most of the time the rest of the world doesn't even realise what's going on. I learned that with the Consortium and with Buffy.

She and her friends have saved the world so many times, and the only recognition from the 'real world'?

A plastic umbrella.

Yeah, there was that thing with the Mayor, but how many stayed on?

Exactly.

I'm not asking for fame, and I realise that in some ways the rest of the world knowing would be a bad thing. In some ways it's better just to enter the shadows and fight back.

The camera's stopped working. We saw the people leave. We saw all but the fight underground. We saw Willow's spell. We saw Anya die. By we I mean the Gunmen and myself.

The camera's stopped. Two days ago. All that is left of Sunnydale is a great big hole in the ground. And I don't care, I don't care that so many people lost their homes. All I want to know is if my girls made it out.

I know that something most have gone ok, I mean we're still here, aren't we? But did they sacrifice themselves so that the rest of the world could go on?

I can't stand the not knowing. They haven't made contact with anyone, not even Angel.

The door behind me opens. Even though I know I'm safe I'm still on guard. We're in a secret installation underground. We're safe. But, how many times has Mulder, Scully or Buffy found a 'secret' installation?

I turn to face my visitor, it's Mulder. He's changed in the year or two it's been since he found the date. Yeah, he's aged but it's not that. It's the way he moves, he's more aware of his surroundings. And since his arrival he's got even better, so has Scully, they're becoming more like me. Is that a good thing?

"K - Alex?" He stumbles remembering my request. He has a file in his hands and his face tells me he thinks he's found a new lead. I hope he has, but at the same time I realise what he may have come across, I can see how he may think it's a lead.

"Yes, Mulder?"

"I think I've found something."

I wait, holding my breath.

"I think it was another ship." He begins to open the file.

I sigh, "Sunnydale?"

His face swings round, his jaw drops.

"H-how? Why didn't you mention it?" His face goes dark, he thinks he's finally found my treason.

"It wasn't a ship. I've seen the pictures from the pole, I know how you might think that's what happened."

"It wasn't?" He looks at me incredulously, "What else could it have possibly been?"

"I don't know." And I don't, I don't know what caused the great big hole in the ground that was once Sunnydale.

"Then how do you now it wasn't a ship, *Alex*, how do you know?"

"Because I know exactly what happened up until two minutes before Sunnydale became nothing but a hole in the ground."

He's doing a great impression of a goldfish right now. He snaps out of it.

"So tell me."

I sigh. It's a wonder he's never been to Sunnydale before. Well, it would be if I didn't know that the Consortium had managed to keep him out of there.

"Scully needs to hear too." I tell him.

"What about the guys?"

Is my answer going to destroy him further?

"They already know most of what I know, but we'll get them too." I tell him, as gently as I can.

Can he take much more of what the world has to throw at him? Can any of us?

I'm sick of this damn bus, I want off.

Ok, so it's only been two days, but can we just get through a discussion on what happens next, for any of us, without an argument?

Sleep? Yeah, right, like that was gonna happen.

But we have so many questions to answer, so many problems to tackle:

"What are we gonna do, Buffy?"

"What should we do about the slayers, Buffy?"

"We need to reform the Council, Buffy."

I know what needs to be done, but they won't listen to me. They ask me for answers, but won't hear them.

We can't do this in one big group, we need to split up. We'll stay in close contact. But we can't deal with what we have unleashed on the world from a bus.

We need someone in Cleveland. We need someone to find the slayers, to build a new council, one that works *for* the slayers, not the slayers for them.

And I need, Dawn needs, Alex.

I know, I won't rest when I get there, but I need him with me and he needs me with him.

How do I know? Apart from just knowing, I dreamt it. I saw us with him. I'm not quite sure whom, but I'm sure that'll sort itself out as it always does.

It felt like a planning meeting, much like the one's we've had over the last seven years. It was telling me that at least some of us need to be there.

"Buffy?" Giles, looks like we're ready for the next round.
