Death May Bring Love: 4
by Spikes Queen
Spike opened the door to the Summer’s house and carried a sleeping Buffy inside. Much to his disappointment, Angel was still there.
“Spike,” Angel said, going toward him. “We gotta talk.”
Spike looked at him. “Let me get Buffy in bed first,” he said, disappearing upstairs.
A few minutes later, he came downstairs and went into the kitchen where Angel was waiting.
“Whaddaya wanna talk about?” Spike asked, heating up some blood.
“I didn’t mean to snap at you before you left,” Angel said, softly. “Just couldn’t help it.”
“No big deal,” Spike said, softly. “We’re all pretty upset about Dawn. Me and Buffy mostly. Its understandable that we’re all pretty on edge.”
“How are you and Buffy holding up?” Angel asked, leaning against the counter.
Spike sighed. “I think it helped us to be away, but she’s not doing too well,” he said. “She wont eat or sleep that much anymore. She has to deal with funeral arrangements, and she has to go through their stuff.”
“She has had so much loss in her life,” Angel said, softly. “I just hope she can get through this.”
Spike rubbed his hand over his face. “Me too,” he mumbled.
Angel looked at his childe closely. “How are you holding up?” He asked, taking a step closer to him.
“If I could sleep, we’ll be in good shape,” Spike said. “Buffy has been having nightmares, so that keeps me up. Don’t know how to make them stop.”
Angel went over and lifted Spike’s gaze to look deep into him. “Have you dealt with what happened or are you just worrying about Buffy?” He asked.
Spike looked away from Angel’s gaze. “Buffy,” he admitted.
Angel frowned and gently ran his hands through Spike’s ungelled hair. “You’re grieving too,” he said. “Buffy’s not gunna be mad.”
Spike trembled. “I cant,” he said, pulling away from Angel. “Not until I’m sure that Buffy is gunna be okay.”
Angel rolled his eyes and took his hand. “Come on,” he said, leading him out of the kitchen.
“Where are you taking me?” Spike asked, tiredly as he took him upstairs.
“You’re going to sleep,” Angel said, taking him to Buffy’s room.
Buffy was trembling a little in her sleep and Spike didn’t need Angel’s encouragement to climb in next to him.
Angel watched as Spike curled around the broken slayer and she continued to fight her dream.
Spike whispered calming words of love in Buffy’s ear. “It’s okay, Pet,” he whispered.
Buffy’s eyes flew open and her eyes darted around ‘til they landed on Angel then Spike.
“You all right?” Spike asked, softly.
Buffy closed her eyes and nodded. “Yeah, just a nightmare. I’m okay though.”
Spike smiled and kissed her softly. “Go back to sleep, Luv,” he said, softly.
Buffy snuggled into him and closed her eyes as she tried to fall asleep.
Angel watched as Spike looked at Buffy with tired eyes and shrugged off his jacket. He went to the other side of Spike and took off his shoes, before climbing in behind the blonde vampire.
Spike was surprised when Angel spooned against his back and nuzzled his neck. “Go to sleep, Spike,” he said, in a soft commanding tone.
“Angel,” Spike whispered, in protest.
Angel nipped him softly. “Sleep,” he said. “I’ll watch over the both of you.”
Spike laid down and buried his face in Buffy’s hair as Angel’s arm came around his waist. He pressed back into him a little and closed his eyes as sleep claimed him.
Angel looked at his childe and slayer as the grief they were both feeling showed in their sleep. He ran his hand under the shirt Spike was wearing to rub is tummy soothingly. Soon he was in a light sleep incase either of the blondes needed him.
The next day, Buffy woke to her vampires still slumbering. She kissed Spike softly. “I’m going to take a shower,” she whispered. “Don’t worry.”
When Buffy came out of the shower, Spike and Angel were awake.
“Hey,” she said, coming back into her room.
“You okay?” Spike asked, as Angel rubbed his back.
Buffy nodded. “The funeral is tonight. Then tomorrow, we’ll clean out the house,” she said, kissing him softly. “I do have to ask, why Angel was in here with us?”
“It was the only way I could get Spike to sleep,” Angel said, from the other side of Spike. “He would have just stayed up all night watching you. Again.”
Buffy looked at Spike with worried eyes. “You haven’t slept at all?”
“You were having nightmares, and I wanted to make sure you were okay,” Spike said, softly.
Buffy smiled and ran her fingers through his hair. “It’s nice that you’re worried about me,” she said, softly. “But you’re gunna make me worry about you if you don’t get some sleep.”
“He slept last night,” Angel said, softly. “But its obvious that you both are still dealing with your grief. Mainly Spike.”
Spike turned and glared at him. “What does that mean?” He asked.
“Buffy didn’t have that many nightmares after you came in here with her,” Angel said. “You did. Which is reason enough for me as to why you don’t sleep. And its not just about Buffy having nightmares. You don’t want to deal with yours.”
Spike opened his mouth to protest but didn’t know what to say.
Buffy touched Spike’s knee. “Spike, you don’t need to be strong all the time,” she said, softly. “I’m going to see if I can eat something. You stay up here, and talk to Angel.”
Spike opened his mouth again but she was gone before he could say anything.
