Hell on Earth 4: Signum - Series 1: 108: Flashback – Act 4

Spikes car slowly pulled up in front of the tall building. Both he and Dawn stared up at it in awe.
“I’m gonna say this one more time,” Spike said seriously, “this is a really bad idea.”
“I need to go here.” Dawn replied in an almost absent voice
“Still haven’t clued my in on why you need to go here pet.”
Dawn scanned her mind.
“I don’t why. I-I just have this feeling.”
“Well maybe you and your feelings should sit a moment and have a serious chat. From what I’ve heard about this place good doesn’t stay too long.”
Dawn looked out the window of the car again and read the name on the giant sign near by
‘Wolfram and Hart: Attorneys at law’
“I have to go in there.” Dawn replied as she opened the door
Spike rolled his eyes and barged out the driver side door. He paced around the car and moved in front of her.
“Sorry love can’t let you.”
Dawn looked up at the blond her eyes almost pleading with him.
“Please I-I don’t know what’s happening to me but I know it’s something important and I know it has something to with these lawyers.”
Spike gestured to the building wildly.
“These aren’t lawyers bit. They’re demon spawn wrapped in Armani. Whatever it is you think these blokes are doin’ to you I think you’d better stop cause if they find out you’re who you are . . .”
Dawn looked at him curiously.
“What would they do?”
“Let’s just say I hope you’re not too attached to living.”
Dawn looked over to the build again. The intense need to go inside resurfaced inside of her and became stronger with every passing minute. Although she knew Spike was looking out for her all she could think of was heading in. Dawn shot Spike one more look before she pushed past him. Again, Spike rolled his eyes turned to her.
“Oh bloody hell! What is it with you summers girls?”
The elevator doors opened slowly. Dawn took a couple of tentative steps into the lobby and looked around. This was creeping the hell out of her. The building felt so familiar to her but she had absolutely no idea why. Spike walked up next to her not taking his eyes of the teenager for one second.
“Okay you came, you looked, we’re goin’.” Spike said forcefully
“No,” Dawn replied absently, “There’s something here. I . . . know this place.”
“Oh for god sake Bit! You’ve been miss crazy talk ever since we left Sunnydale.”
A few feet away Lindsey McDonald was scanning some case notes when Lilah Morgan approached her and grabbed her by the arm. Lindsey looked her up and down.
“Mommy never told you about the personal space rule did she?” he remarked
“Cute,” Lilah replied, “Think I found something we definitely want to get involved in.”
The both of them stood calmly as they Watched Spike hover around Dawn as she looked around the lobby in confusion. Lilah handed Lindsey a folder.
“His name is William the Bloody A.K.A. Spike one of the most vicious vampire that ever un-lived.”
“Who’s the girl?” Lindsey asked
“We’re still looking into that.”
Lindsey leaned into the screen closer.
“Is it just me or does it looks like the vampire is protecting her.”
“That’s the interesting part.” Lilah replied
A moment later the door opened and another lawyer walked in. he handed another folder to Lindsey who started to read.
“Oh this is good.” She remarked
“What?”
“The girl, she’s the slayer’s sister.”
Lindsey looked at her in surprise.
“Wait, let me get this straight,” Lindsey commented, “The sister of the slayer not only walked into this office voluntary but is being guarded by a vampire.”
“Wanna go make friends?”
“Dawn, we have to go” Spike said, “Not sure how many soddin’ way’s I can say ‘lawyer bad’ to you. . .”
Dawn ignored him which frustrated the vampire more. He walked around in front of her and grabbed her by the shoulder.
“Look here kid! If we don’t leave now and get you home I’m gonna have a very angry slayer on my ass and, personally, I like to remain unstaked now come on!”
Spike grabbed her by the arm. They turned around and found Lindsey and Lilah smiling at them warmly.
“Good evening,” Lindsey asked, “Can we help you two?”

Buffy sat anxiously at the table and played with a loose store pamphlet. She looked around to the rest of the Scooby’s trying to hide her fear.
“Nobody’s seen her since this afternoon,” Buffy explained, “I called the school, her friends, neither of them have a clue.”
“Well maybe she needed to go for a walk, you know, to clear her head.” Willow replied
Xander looked at her strangely.
“A five hour walk Will?” he asked
Willow shrugged awkwardly.
“Her head was pretty full.”
“She’s not acting herself right now.” Buffy explained
“So do we have any info on that?” Xander asked
Giles and Buffy looked at each other.
“We have a suspicion that it might be some kind of external influence.” Giles replied
Willow looked at the both of them curiously.
“Like what?” Willow asked
Giles picked up Dawns work book and handed it to the pair of them. Xander and Willow studied the repeated drawings of the Star of Asgeroth in surprise.
“We think it has something to do with Becky,” Buffy remarked, “Problem is we can’t find out till we find her.”
“Did you try Spikes?” Xander asked, “You know he kinda has a thing for him.”
Xander cringed slightly at the thought.
“There’s an image I’m gonna have trouble sleeping over.” He continued
“No good,” Buffy explained, “That was the first place I went and it looks like he skipped town.”
“So things are looking up.”
Buffy shot Xander a look which made him shrink away. Tara, who had been sitting quietly, looked over to Buffy.
“We could work on a locater spell see if she’s still in the town.” She said
“Good idea. I’m gonna make one more trip around the town see if there’s something I missed.” Buffy replied grabbing her jacket

“She’s in my office now Sir.” Lindsey explained
“And she came in on her own?” Hamilton asked curiously
“Either that or the vampire brought her,” Lindsey replied, “We’re trying to figure that out.”
Hamilton stood up and walked around his desk. Casually he walked over to one of his book shelves and brought out a huge leather bound book.
“You realize the opportunity we have in our hands?” he continued
Lindsey looked at the head of special projects curiously.
“Sir?”
Hamilton murmured something into the spine of the book then opened it on the table. Lindsey watched as a series of symbols began to materialize on the page.
“Lindsey I’m going to let you in on a secret not many people know within this organization. Have you ever heard of a document called ‘The Prophesy of the Divine?’”
“Not off hand.”
“I’m not surprised,” Hamilton explained, “In short the prophecy tells us about The Slayer’s niece, Dawn Summer’s daughter, it says that some time in the future she’s going to gain power and destroy the senior partners.”
Lindsey looked at him curiously.
“We’re not going to let this happen are we sir?” he asked
“No we’re not. If its one thing I’ve learnt in this office it’s never look a gift horse in the mouth . . .”
Hamilton turned to Lindsey in a commanding fashion.
“ . . . Take her down to the storage level. We’ll put her on ice.”
Dawn sat in Lindsey’s office rubbing her temple uncomfortably. What ever was happening in her dreams was beginning to bleed into her mind when she was awake. Across from her Lilah watched her carefully.
“I . . . Don’t understand what you’re saying.” She commented
“Something happened here.” Dawn snapped
“This is a law firm miss a lot of things happen here.”
“Yeah, and how many of those things make the evening news.” Spike said from the corner of the room
Lilah shot him a look.
“I don’t think I like you’re tone.”
“Sorry love,” Spike said sarcastically, “Did I offend the big evil lawyer?”
“I’m curious of exactly what you’re accusing us of.”
“Thought I covered that with the ‘evil lawyer’ bit.”
A moment later Lindsey re-entered the office. He walked up to Lilah and took her aside. After a brief conversation they turned and faced Spike and Dawn.
“I’m sorry we’re gonna have to ask you to leave. I think you’ve disrupted us for long enough.” Lilah remarked
“About bloody time,” Spike remarked taking Dawn by the arm, “Come on Bit we best be on our way.”
Dawn stood up. Suddenly she felt overwhelmed and had to lean against the chair. Images began to flood her mind which made her turn to the lawyers in shock. Unconsciously she started to rub her right arm
“You did this,” Dawn remarked in shock, “You made her.”
Lindsey gestured to people standing outside the door. The doors burst open as the Strike Team came in and snagged Dawn. Spike rushed over and punched the
Lead team member. He stumbled back in pain as the act caused his chip to fire. A couple of members moved over and dragged spike to his feet leading him out of the office.
The team led the both of them through the lobby to the elevator. Just as they arrived the doors open. Angel stepped out slugging the closes member in the face. Before the others had time to react Buffy and Gunn followed suit and began to attack the others. Seizing the opportunity Spike got free and dragged Dawn to safety. After that it didn’t take long for Angel and the others to neutralize the team. Buffy rushed over to Dawn and examined her.
“Are you okay Dawnie?” Buffy asked
Dawn was about to reply but her head began to swim. Buffy looked at her in shock as Dawn began to glow green slightly before she passed out.
~ The Hyperion hotel, Los Angeles California ~
Buffy carefully lay Dawn down on the sofa in the lobby. She stood up and walked over next to Angel.
“Thanks for the help.” Buffy said softly
“Thanks for the call,” Angel replied, “After Willow told us Dawn was at Wolfram and Hart I figured you needed the back up.”
Angel walked over to Dawn and looked at her. She still had a faint glow around her body.
“So any clue to why this is happening?” he continued
“Giles is still trying to figure out the details but we think its Becky related.”
Angel looked over Buffy in surprise.
“How?”
“That’s the trying to figure out part.”
“But she’s okay though right?” Spike asked from behind them, “The little bit’s all dandy and nobody need to be tied up.”
Buffy folded her arms and rolled her eyes. She turned to face Spike who was sitting near by tied to a chair.
“Yeah she looks okay. Tell me spike who took Dawn there in the first place?”
Spike looked at her awkwardly.
“That’s what I thought.”
“For the record love Dawn asked for my help.” Spike snapped
Buffy stopped listening to him. A moment later Willow rushed into the lobby flustered. Buffy looked at her curiously.
“Will?”
“Okay I think we’ve figured out why we were getting weird results with the locater spell.” Willow replied
“What was it?”
“When I and Tara cast the spell we made it so it would follow the energies of the key, 'cause it would be easier to track, but when we did there was something off.”
“Off? Like how?”
“I could’ve been reading this wrong but the spell was telling us there’s two keys.”
“Wait, how’s that possible?”
“I don’t know but, hey, might have something to do with the dreams she’s been having.”
“Great, right when we can’t talk to her.”
The three of them looked at the unconscious teenager. Suddenly Willow was struck with an idea. She turned to the other two.
“Guys, there might be one way . . .”
Willow lit the final candle and joined the others. The group sat on the floor in a circle as Dawn lay peacefully in the center.
“So how does this work?” Buffy asked
“Well,” Willow replied consulting her notes, “The spells gonna make Dawn a conduit. We should be able to enter Dawns mind and see what she’s seeing.”
“And why is Spike joining us?” Angel asked
“Because I don’t trust him out here alone” Buffy remarked
Spike glared at the slayer as he experimented with his ropes.
“Well thanks a soddin’ lot Slayer,” he snapped, “here I was making sure the littlest summers was still alive so she could go back to big sis and this is the gratitude I get.”
“Shut up.” Buffy yelled.
“Okay everybody concentrate.” Willow said
The group closed their eyes and started to breath deeply. The crystals arranged in front of Willow began to glow brighter and brighter until the room was filled with light. When they opened their eyes the four of them were standing in a cave. Curious they slowly walked down the passage until they reached the main chamber. Inside Dawn sat curiously as a woman with long dark hair and brown eyes leaned against the wall. Buffy looked at the woman curiously. Although she looked older Buffy recognized her. Dawn looked over to the group and smiled in relief. She rushed up to Buffy and hugged her tightly.
Woman looked over to the four of them and smiled.
“Buffy,” she said in a tone that sounded like relief
Buffy moved Dawn to the side and walked up to her slowly.
“Now I don’t want you to get the wrong idea,” she asked cautiously, “But you’re Becky aren’t you?”
Rebecca pushed off the wall and walked up to her.
“Yes and no.” she replied
Buffy looked at Rebecca confused.
“Come again?”
Rebecca started to pace around the cave.
“Look. I’ll try and explain as best I can . . .”
~Wolfram and Hart, Los Angeles California ~
“I getting sick of this.” Hamilton yelled at the Lindsey and Lilah, “We’re supposed to be the best at providing a service to the evil community yet, some how, the good guy’s keep getting in.”
“None of us expected the Slayer and Angel to arrive when they did sir.” Lindsey replied
Hamilton shot him a look.
“Not Expected? We were holding her sister what do you think she was going to do?”
“What do you want done now sir?” Lilah asked
Hamilton leaned back in his chair.
“Angel’s been a problem for a year or so now and as for the Slayer I know a few clients who would be happy with the notion of her termination so I think there’s only one move left in this chess game.”
“Which is?” Lindsey inquired
“I want every strike team assembled and ready to go,” Hamilton ordered, “We’re going to hit the Hyperion hard and fast. By morning I want every single one of them dead.”
