Eavsdropping: 2
by Spikes Queen
A few minutes later, Buffy came upstairs and smiled at Spike with her sister.
She kissed his forehead and gently smoothed his hair back.
Spike murmured lovingly but continued to hold Dawn.
Buffy smiled and went downstairs.
As soon as she reached the bottom of the stairs, the front door opened and a smoking figure ran in.
“What the hell?” Buffy asked, as the figure uncovered himself. “Angel?”
“Hi, Buffy,” Angel said, in that voice that made her weak.
“What are you doing here?” Buffy asked, not wanting Spike to wake up.
“Are you hurt?” Angel asked, running his hands over her.
Buffy moved away from him. “No, I’m fine,” she said.
“Cordy had a vision of you jumping off a tower,” Angel said. “She said that you died.”
“Well someone saved me,” Buffy said, softly. “Saved me and Dawn.”
“That’s good,” Angel said, holding her hands. “At least you’re okay.”
“I am,” Buffy said.
Angel looked at her longingly before kissing her softly.
Buffy’s knees became weak as she slid her arms around his neck.
Angel pulled her closer to him and deepened their kiss.
Buffy had to pull away to breathe and noticed Dawn on the stairs. “Dawn,” she said, ready to explain herself.
Tears welled in Dawn’s eyes and she ran back upstairs.
Spike woke as she came into the room and sat up when she climbed in the bed. “Nibblet,” he said, softly. “You’re okay. You’re safe.”
Buffy came into the room with Angel close behind her. “Dawn?”
Angel paused seeing Dawn in Spike’s arms. “What the hell?”
Buffy went over and sat next to her sister. “Dawnie?”
“Go away,” Dawn whispered, clinging to Spike.
Angel looked on and had no idea what to do.
Spike gently lifted Dawn’s head and looked at her. “What’s wrong?” He asked, softly as he wiped her tears. “You can trust me.”
“No she cant,” Angel growled.
Buffy glared at Angel. “Don’t say that,” she said. “She can trust him. Dawn it’s not what you think.”
“How can it not be, Buffy?” Dawn flared. “You weren’t pushing him away. You were encouraging him.”
“What is she talking about?” Spike asked.
“Buffy was downstairs with her tongue down Angel’s throat,” Dawn said.
Buffy met Spike’s eyes and the look broke her heart. “Spike,” she said, softly.
Spike gently pushed Dawn out of his arms, as he moved away from the girls.
Dawn got off the bed and wiped her tears.
Buffy stood up and didn’t really know what to say. “Spike,” she said, again.
“Don’t,” Spike said, softly. “Just don’t.”
Spike pushed past Angel and went downstairs.
Buffy followed him and gently grabbed his arm. “Please, stop,” she said. “It’s not what you think.”
“Why do you care what I think?” Spike asked.
“Because you’re important to me,” Buffy said.
“More important then Angel?” Spike asked, before he could stop himself.
“Yes,” Buffy answered. “Angel didn’t save me and my sister. Angel hasn’t don’t half the things you have and I said I’d never forget it.”
“But you were kissing him,” Spike said.
“I know,” Buffy said. “And I’m sorry. But when Dru came back to town you were all over her even though you were in love with me.”
“But I was a different man then,” Spike said, softly.
“Well, things between me and Angel are different,” Buffy said. “There’s no chance for us to have a future.”
Angel was standing at the top of the stairs but neither seem to notice.
Spike closed his eyes but opened them when Buffy cradled his face in her hands.
Buffy stroked his cheekbones. “Spike, can we just go back up with Dawn?” She asked.
“And what about Angel?” Spike whispered.
“He’s gunna come off the stairs and say goodbye,” Buffy said, not even turning. “Then he can call to check up on me if there’s a problem.”
Angel came downstairs with a heart broken expression. “Cordy had a vision of you dying and I did call,” he said. “Got no answer,” he said.
“I’m going upstairs,” Spike said, disappearing before Buffy could stop him.
“Angel, I’m fine and right now Dawn and Spike need me,” Buffy said, crossing her arms.
“How in the world can you allow Spike in your house?” Angel asked.
“Because he’s important to me,” Buffy said.
Buffy finally got Angel to leave and went upstairs to her room. Spike was watching Dawn rest and looked at Buffy worriedly.
“He’s gone,” Buffy said, going over to him.
Spike nodded but didn’t say anything.
Buffy reached out to grab his hand. “Spike, I’m here,” she said.
Spike nodded and squeezed her hand as they watched their little girl sleep.
