Let Go and Move on: 3
by Spikes Queen
At the house, Buffy gave Willow and Giles the envelope. Angel had given her the amulet. Now she was deciding who to give it to.
Dawn found her on the back porch. “Buffy? You okay?”
“I don’t know,” Buffy said, looking at the amulet.
“Give it to Spike,” Dawn said, firmly.
Buffy looked at her. “Why?”
“You know why,” Dawn said, and went inside.
Buffy smiled and went in. She sense Angel coming from the living room and she slipped into her basement.
She found Spike, leaning against the wall, smoking a cigarette. When he saw her, he put it out and stood up.
Buffy went up to him. She pulled out the amulet and handed it to him.
Spike looked at her. “Buffy, I’m not a champion,” he said, softly.
“You are to me. You’re my champion and you always will be,” she said, leaning up to kiss him.
Spike put the amulet behind him on a shelf. He pushed her away gently. “Buffy, think about this.”
Buffy frowned. “I did. What, you don’t trust me?”
“I trust you. You know I do. But Angel…” Buffy put a finger to his lips.
“Angel is the past. I’m with you now,” Buffy said.
“Yeah, but…” Buffy put her finger to his lips again.
“No. No buts. I chose you,” Buffy said, her voice a little high.
“Why did you choose me?” Spike asked.
Buffy frowned and backed away. “Because a few things have been made clear and I realize I’ve been a complete idiot, because I didn’t chose you a long time ago,” she said, unshed tears in her eyes.
Spike’s eyes filled with guilt. “Butt, you’re turning this into a bigger deal then it is.”
“It is a big deal. Spike, that amulet could save the world,” she said.
“Buffy, sit down,” Spike said, and waited ‘til she was sitting before continuing. “My main job is not to make this world a better place or keep it from ending. That’s your job.
“My job is to make sure, while you’re saving the world, that you come out of it alive as well as every one close to you. You want me to wear the amulet I will, but I’m doing it for you. Not for the world,” he said, kneeling in front of her.
“I know that,” Buffy said, softly, pulling him up next to her so she could hug him.
Spike wrapped his arms around her waist and buried is face in her hair.
“Spike, I meant what I said in the tomb,” Buffy said, softly.
“Buffy, please don’t joke about something like this,” he said, looking at her.
“I know that and I’m not. I’m serious,” she said.
Spike’s eyes peered into hers and saw nothing but affection.
Buffy smiled back. She ran her fingers through his hair. “I know it’s a bit of a shock. It’s gunna take time for us to adjust to it. Everyone else needs to get used to it, too,” she said.
Spike smiled. “Well, they’ll probably have to deal with it later. After the apocalypse,” he said.
Buffy caught Spike’s gaze and kissed him gently. She laid down and pulled him on top of her without breaking their kiss.
