Trouble in Paradise: 2
by Spikes Queen
Buffy came out of the kitchen as Spike came down the stairs. “You okay?” She asked, going toward him.
Spike raised his eyes to hers. “She thinks I was pretending to care for her and it breaks my heart that she could think that I would rather die then put her in danger,” he whispered.
Buffy slid her arms around his waist. “It’s okay,” she whispered.
Spike wrapped his arms around her. “Buffy, Dawn’s one of the most important people in my life. It has nothing to do with my promises to you or to Joyce. It was about my promise to Dawn and to myself,” he whimpered.
“What does my mom have to do with this?” Buffy asked, pulling back.
“I promised your mom I would take care of you and Dawn if anything ever happened to her,” Spike admitted softly.
“So you knew she was gunna die?” Buffy whispered.
“I knew whatever was wrong with her, she had a fear of leaving her daughters and I told her I wouldn’t let anything happen to you,” Spike whispered.
Buffy moved away from Spike. “You knew there was something wrong with her and you promised her you’d take her place,” she whimpered.
Spike’s eyes filled with hurt and confusion. “That’s not what I did,” he said, softly. “Why are you acting like this?”
“You knew she was dying!” Buffy flared.
“No I didn’t,” Spike said, reaching for her.
Buffy flinched away from him. “Then why’d you promise her something like that?” She asked.
“The same reason I promised you I would protect Dawn,” Spike said, softly. “If I had known that Joyce was gunna die, I would’ve done everything in my power to save her.”
Tears slid out of Buffy’s face as Spike left.
