Life Changing: Results

Luckily for the Scooby’s, the hospital wasn’t too far away from where they were. Buffy had gathered the unconscious Willow in her arms and carried her to the hospital. Xander walked right behind her with Cordelia’s arm around his shoulder as he helped her walk. Oz walked next to Buffy with the makeshift stake clenched tightly in his hand. Buffy had assured him that Angel probably wouldn’t attack again tonight but he wasn’t taking any chances.
Oz was extremely worried. Willow was breathing fine and her pulse was strong but she was unconscious and Oz couldn’t stand to see her that way. She hadn’t moved since she was knocked out and her eyes were still tightly shut. He wished that she would just wake up. He would feel a lot better if she was awake.
He couldn’t help going over in his mind how bad this could be. The lump on her head was pretty swollen. She could have permanent damage. She could have internal bleeding. Xander had told him that the two of them had been fighting along side Buffy for at least a year now and they had both taken beatings and recovered from them fine. He said that he himself had been knocked out several times before. Even though his words were meant to comfort him, they didn’t. If anything it just worried him more.
Then Oz started to realize that things could have been a lot worse. If Buffy hadn’t have shown up, all four could be dead by now. They were extremely lucky. Buffy had told them that she was actually about to go home. She was tired from patrolling and just wanted to get a good night sleep. She told them that at the last minute she realized she hadn’t been spending much time with her friends lately and decided to stop by the bronze for a little bit where they said they would be. When she saw they weren’t there, she was just going to walk back home. Luckily she had to walk the same way as they did to do so.
They were moving at a pretty fast rate and reached the hospital quickly. They walked through the emergency room doors. A nurse, seeing Willow unmoving in Buffy’s arms, quickly rushed to get a doctor. Another grabbed a gurney and Buffy gently placed her down on the rolling bed. Another nurse rushed to Cordelia when she saw her holding her neck with blood on her cloths.
“What happened?” a doctor asked Buffy as they wheeled Willow into a room.
“We were walking home from the Bronze,” Buffy responded. “We were attacked. She hit her head pretty hard.” On they’re way to the hospital Buffy, Xander, Oz and Cordelia had discussed what they would tell the doctors so that they’re stories would be straight. According to anyone else who wasn’t them, they were attacked by a group of guys who were trying to rob them. Xander, Oz and Buffy were able to beat them back but not before they threw Willow into a wall, causing her to hit her head, and cut Cordelia’s neck.
They were fully aware that the puncture wounds on Cordelia’s neck obviously did not look at all like a cut from a knife but they couldn’t think of anything better. The shape of the cuts would just have to be considered a mystery.
“Is she going to be alright?” Oz asked that doctors as they reached an empty room and began to work on assessing Willow’s situation.
One of the doctors was checking her vitals. He checked her pulse, her breathing and her eye response. “Her vitals all seem good but I’m going to have to ask the two of you to wait in the waiting area. We need some space. We’ll let you know the minute we know more.”
A nurse escorted Oz and Buffy out of the room and towards the waiting area. Before they could reach the waiting area Buffy stopped short and braced herself against the wall. It looked almost as if she was going to faint, but she didn’t.
“Are you alright miss?” the nurse asked Buffy.
Buffy tried to steady herself as she held her stomach. “I’m fine.”
“Did they hurt you as well?” the nurse asked. She obviously thought that the ‘attackers’ had gotten a few hits on Buffy but Oz knew better. Buffy hadn’t been feeling well for quite some time now. She tried to hide but all of her friends noticed, even him. She had also almost fainted just after Angel split. Something wasn’t right with her.
“I’ve just got the flu or something,” Buffy finally gave in. “I’ve just been getting dizzy spells every now and then.”
“While you’re here I think you should get that checked out,” the nurse suggested strongly.
“It’s just the flu, I’ll be fine.”
“Please I insist.” They reached the waiting area. “Sir you can have a seat here. The doctors will be with you as soon as they have news on your friend.” Oz nodded his head and took a seat. Then the nurse turned her attentions back to Buffy. “And you, I’m going to find a free doctor and just have you checked out. Just a check up to make sure you don’t have something more severe. I’m sure you’re right and it’s just the flu but I’d feel better if you just get yourself checked out.”
Buffy was about to argue with the nurse but she gave her a stern look. Finally, she rolled her eyes and gave in. “Alright,” she responded. “I guess it couldn’t hurt.”

When Buffy woke up she was still exhausted. Thankfully it was a Saturday so she was able to lie in bed for a little while longer. Last night had been a long night. She still couldn’t believe that Angel had nearly killed her friends. On some level she knew that an attack like this would be coming but she just didn’t really want to believe it. Now reality had definitely sunk in and she would be much more carefully when it came to the people she loved.
Willow and Cordelia were released after being checked out. Willow had a concussion and the doctors said her bump on her head would be sore for a while but other then that she was ok. When she woke up she had a pretty big head ache but she would be just fine. As for Cordelia it seemed that Buffy reached her friend’s just in time. Angel had only drained a very small amount of Cordelia’s blood. It was more then a small cut would usually cause but she would be fine none the less.
It seemed that all of the girls were in need of doctors last night. As much as Buffy tried to protest, the kind nurse that had helped Willow insisted she see a doctor after she nearly fainted. It was the same thing that she felt after fighting Angel. She was sick to her stomach and dizzy. This damn flu was really getting on her nerves.
She finally agreed to see a doctor after some protest. The doctor had just given her a routine check up. He checked her blood pressure, her reflexes and other such things. He told her that she seemed physically fine but he took a blood sample just to be sure. He told her that he would call her as soon as the results came back and that they would most likely tell her what was wrong. She wasn’t worried though. Slayers healed fast and even though this flu was persistent she would beat it soon enough. Besides, she had bigger problems to worry about.
After a few more moments of lying in bed she decided to get up and take a shower. Then she would call Giles. He would want to know about what happened last night and she wanted him to know. He would have to be extra careful now as well as the others. It wouldn’t be long before Angel would go after him too.
As she walked to the bathroom she tried to figure out what she would tell her mother. She had to think of something to tell her to make sure keep herself on guard and away from Angel but she wasn’t sure what. Sometimes she wished that she could just tell her mother that she’s a slayer. Things would be so much easier to explain. Although then she would just be worrying about me every time I’d go out at night.
Buffy tried to put the thought out of her head. She couldn’t tell her mother weather she wanted to or not so it was useless to think about it. Instead she had to focus on a good lie. She thought about it the entire time she was in the shower and decided that she would just tell her mother the truth, or more like a modified version of the truth. She would tell her mother that she and Angel were dating but that he change. She would tell her that Angel got mean and that he was dangerous. It was the truth, just not the whole truth.
The phone rang just as Buffy was getting out of the shower. She figured it was probably Giles wondering why she hadn’t checked in with him about her patrolling last night. She walked into her room and picked up the cordless phone on the stand next to her bed. “Hello?” she said as she clicked the talk button and placed the phone to her ear.
“Hello,” the voice on the other line greeted. “This is Dr. Stevens from Sunnydale Medical. Is this Buffy Summers?”
“Yes, this is Buffy.”
“I have the test results from your blood work Ms. Summers. It appears that you actually do no have the flu.”
Buffy’s face wrinkled with worry. Normally that news would sound like a good thing but Buffy knew that something was wrong with her and if it wasn’t the flu she knew it must be something worse. Also the tone in the doctor’s voice wasn’t exactly comforting. She didn’t say a word. She just waited for the doctor to continue.
“I had a hunch about this when you told me of your nausea, soreness and occasional dizziness but I wanted to wait for the results before alarming you. The tests have confirmed my theory. You’re pregnant Ms. Summers.”
Buffy couldn’t breath. This was impossible. There was no way she could be pregnant. The only man she had slept with was Angel and he’s a vampire. Vampires were incapable of having kids. She was sure of that. She had done research on it when she had started thinking about the possibility of her relationship getting more serious with Angel.
It took her a moment but she finally found her voice. “That’s impossible…are you sure?” she asked into the phone.
“Yes Ms. Summers,” the doctor responded. “The blood tests are never false and nausea, fatigue and sometimes soreness and dizziness are all symptoms that come along with the first trimester of pregnancy. The soreness and dizziness could be caused by being overly stressed or not getting enough sleep.”
Stress? Lack of sleep? Yeah, that was Buffy for sure. But this was impossible. She just couldn’t wrap her mind around it. There was no way this was happening.
Dr. Stevens continued, “If you’d like I can give you a phone number of counselor that you can contact. She can help discuss with you your options. You don’t have to be alone in this.”
But she was alone. Buffy couldn’t even think straight. This was all too much to deal with at a time like this. It wasn’t bad enough that she had her murdering ex-boyfriend trying to kill her friends to deal with and now she was pregnant. This was just too much.
She tried to snap out of it so she could at least finish her conversation with the doctor. “Umm…no. That’s ok. I…I’ll be ok. Thank you.” Then she hung up the phone and sat down on her bed with a look of complete shock on her face.
She couldn’t move. She couldn’t think. It was impossible but it was there. I’m pregnant. I’m pregnant with Angel’s baby.
