What Can We Do: 1

by Spikes Queen

Spike knocked on Dawn’s bedroom door.

“Go away,” Came a nasty voice.

“Nibblet, open this door,” Spike growled.

Dawn opened the door. “Sorry,” she said, sitting on her bed.

Spike sat next to her. “Wanna tell me what’s going on?” He asked.

Dawn shook her head. “Not really.”

Spike pushed Dawn’s hair back. “Come on. It’s just you and me. Tell me,” Spike said, softly.

Dawn got up and took the jewelry box off her desk. She sat next to Spike and opened it

Spike looked at the stuff inside which had the sales tags on them still. “Dawn, did you still that stuff?” He asked, closing the box.

Dawn nodded. “Most of it is from the Magic Box,” she said, in a tiny voice.

“You have to tell demon-girl,” Spike said.

“She’ll hate me,” Dawn said.

Spike kissed her forehead. “No she wont. I’ll go get her,” he said, going to the door.

“Spike?” He turned back to look at her. “Don’t tell Buffy.”

Spike sighed. “Lil Bit, you know I don’t like lying to your sister. If you don’t want me to, then you should,” he said, going down stairs.

Downstairs, everyone else was still trying to figure out why they were trapped in the house.

“Anya?” Spike asked.

Anya looked at Spike. “What?”

“Dawn wants to talk to you,” Spike said.

Anya stood up from the couch and went upstairs.

Buffy went to go but Spike stopped her. “Not yet, Pet.”

“Spike,” Buffy began.

Spike put a finger to her lips. “Just trust me on this,” he said, going back upstairs.

Spike paused outside of Dawn’s room.

“Anya, I’m really sorry,” Dawn whimpered.

Anya frowned. “It’s ok. You told me and you returned everything. I’ll think of something at the shop that you can do as punishment,” she said.

Dawn smiled in relief. “Thanks Anya. Don’t say anything to Buffy. I’m gunna tell her myself.”

“I wont say a word,” Anya said, going back downstairs.

Spike came in and leaned against the door frame. “See? Not so bad,” he said.

Dawn looked at him. “I feel better now.”

Spike smiled. “Ready to go back downstairs?” He asked.

Dawn nodded and they went down to the party.

Buffy looked up as they came downstairs. She went over to Spike and Dawn disappeared into the kitchen. “Spike?”

“When the party’s over, Dawn’ll tell you,” he said.

“Why cant you tell me?” Buffy asked, crossing her arms.

“I’m not going to ruin Dawn’s trust,” Spike said, following his youngest girl in to the kitchen.

Buffy stalked after him. “What about my trust?” She asked, as he got a beer from the fridge.

Dawn looked at Buffy. “I’m going to tell you when the party’s over. Don’t be mad at Spike,” she said.

Buffy frowned. “Spike, I wanna talk to you,” she said.

Dawn went to the living room and Spike leaned on the counter.

Buffy looked at him and sighed. “Spike, why…” She broke off and tried again. She went over and leaned on the counter across from him. “I’m sorry,” she whispered.

Spike looked up at her. “No big deal,” he said.

Buffy frowned. “Spike, come on, you know this is hard for me,” she said.

Spike pushed himself off the counter. “We’ll talk when everyone leaves,” he said, going to the living room.

Buffy frowned and swallowed her tears. After she composed herself she went back to the party.
