Spikes Girls: 3
by Spikes Queen
1 Year Later
“Daddy!” Kary yelled.
Spike ran into his daughter’s room. “What happened, baby?” He asked, kneeling in front of her.
“It hurts,” Kary whimpered.
“What does?” Spike asked.
Kary held out her arm and there was a really bad rash on her arm.
Spike looked at it closely. “We need to get that looked at,” he said, taking her to the bathroom.
“Dad, it burns,” Kary whimpered.
Spike soaked a towel in ice cold water and wrapped it around her arm. “Better?”
“A little,” Kary sniffled.
Spike scooped her up and took her down stairs. He scribbled a note saying hospital and grabbed the car keys.
5 mintues later, he was in the parking lot and running toward the doors.
“Can I get some help?” He called.
A nurse came forward. “What happened?”
“She’s got a rash on her arm and she says it burns,” Spike said, frantically.
“Just relax. Follow me,” she said.
Spike followed the nurse to an exam room and sat Kary on the table. “You okay, Baby?” He asked.
Kary looked at her dad. “It hurts,” she said.
“My name’s Melissa,” the nurse said, kindly. “Can I look at your arm?”
Kary looked at Spike with questioning eyes.
“Its okay,” Spike said.
Kary looked at Melissa and nodded.
Melissa gently peeled the towel away from Kary’s arm. “That looks nasty,” she said. “I’ll get you a lollipop while we have your dad fill out some paper work,” she said, smiling at the young girl.
Kary smiled. “Do you have red?”
“Yes we do,” Melissa said, leaving.
Kary looked at her dad. “Where’s Mom?” She asked.
“Taking your sister to Aunt Dawn’s,” Spike said, smiling tenderly.
Melissa came in with another doctor. “Here you go Kary,” she said, handing her a red lollipop.
“What do you say?” Spike asked, his daughter.
“Thank you,” Kary said, blushing.
“You’re welcome,” Melissa said.
The doctor smiled. “My name’s Laura. May I see your arm?”
Kary nodded and sucked on her lollipop.
Laura looked at the rash on Kary’s arm. “It looks like something spilled on her,” she said.
Spike took a closer look at it. “Were you playing with anything upstairs?” He asked his daughter.
“No,” Kary said, in a tiny voice.
“Kary,” Spike said, firmly.
“I didn’t mean to,” Kary said, looking at her dad.
“We just need to know what it was so that the doctor can give you something for the pain,” Spike said, gently.
“It was in the dirty clothes basket. It was a dish rag and spilled soda on me. I just wiped it off,” Kary said.
“Your mom probably used it yesterday when…” Spike paused. “Is it the same one Mommy uses when she uses 409?”
“Yeah. It smelled really bad,” Kary said.
Laura smiled. “Just a reaction. I’ll get some cream and a bandage,” she said.
Then Buffy came barreling through the door. “Kary, you okay?” She asked, looking her daughter over. “What happened?”
“The rag you used with the 409, Kary used to wipe soda off of her. Had a reaction but she’s okay,” he said.
“You the mother?” Laura asked.
“Yes,” Buffy said.
“I’m Laura. Kary’s gunna be fine,” she said, rubbing cream on Kary’s arm gently. She wrapped the young girls arm in a bandage and handed the cream to Buffy. “Apply the cream once at night and cover it with a bandage. In 2 weeks come back and I’ll take a look. If the rash doesn’t show signs of going away in the next couple of days, bring her back in. Especially if it burns again.”
Spike and Buffy smiled their thanks as Spike picked up Kary. They left the hospital and Kary was asleep by the time they got home.
