Losing: Promotion
by Psyche2
A/N: Okay, okay. I realize that I have like ten other stories going and I haven’t updated this in a while but I had a sudden inspiration, a turned on light bulb, finally. And yes, I realize its a little on the short side. Any suggestions to this would be great, but I have the basic plot in my head. So, enjoy and please review!
Angelus grunted as he got up. He had long forgotten the pain that came with losing his soul, since it wasn’t a common thing. But he felt free, finally. He no longer had the annoying conscience keeping him from doing what was his true nature. He was a vampire, vampire equaled bloodsucker. Blood Suckers do not fall in love with vampire slayers and fight for the side of good. It made him gag, although soul boy did have a good choice in woman. Exhibit A, being Buffy of course.
He looked around, memories, not his of course, of what soul boy had been up to came flooding back to him. L.A. huh? His stomach let out a pain and he growled.
It didn’t take him long to figure out his whereabouts. He was in an alley in L.A. Perfect…he smiled and walked out of the alleyway.
Smells of all origins greeted him. Death, despair, hunger, oh how he loved the city. He looked around, trying to figure out something to eat. He saw a woman walk into the alley and laughed. This was too easy.
He followed her and smiled. “Are you lost ma’am?” He asked, politely.
She turned around startled. “No, I just-.”
He cut her off and stepped closer. “It’s alright.”
She tried to get away as he moved closer to her neck. He vamped out and bit down, before the girl could scream for help.
Angelus dropped the corpse to the ground, wiped his mouth and once again walked out of the alley. Now that he was refreshed, he had to finish some things he started a long time ago.
Buffy got off the bus. She looked around, trying to see if she could spot Angel. She knew that was stupid and she knew he wasn’t there but something had her looking over her shoulder every five seconds.
That deep impending feeling of doom hadn’t gone away either and she fought the urge to throw up.
Swallowing the fear down she made her way over to a payphone. She put the change in and dialed the number to the hotel. She waited, and waited. She let it ring for a couple of minutes longer and then slammed the phone back on its hook. She picked the phone back up and put the change in. She dialed Cordelia’s phone.
“Ugh, umm, Cordelia Investigations, we help the helpless.” Came the cheery yet unsure voice of the ex-cheerleader.
“Cordelia? It’s Buffy, is Angel there?”
Cordelia cleared her throat and then said in a muffled voice. “It’s Buffy.” Then another clear of the throat and she said more clearly. “We don’t work for Angel anymore Buffy, he fired us.”
“Fired you?” Buffy asked, confused. “Cordelia, he just called me and I think he’s in trouble.”
After a snort from her and a sigh she gave Buffy the directions to their new office. Buffy hung up the phone and made her way toward the office, wondering what exactly was going on with Angel. A chill went down her spine and she shivered, as she crossed the street.
The huge conference room was bustling. Lindsey McDonald had never seen it so full in his time at Wolfram and Hart. It was huge and every seat was filled. People and things were actually standing up also. It had been so crowded in there that a fight had apparently broken out between a demon and a shaman.
Out of the corner of his eye he saw a tall figure, saunter up to him. “Get this, her favorite ice cream is Mint chocolate chip cookie dough.” Lilah Morgan said and flipped closed the folder and took out another.
“What are you doing here?” He couldn’t help but snarl at her.
“There’s a promotion in for me as well if I do well on this.” She said casually.
He shook his head. “I should have known.”
“Well, Manners couldn’t contain his excitement.” She said as if it was some big secret. “He came into me and offered me part of this. And who can refuse, this will make the senior partner’s particularly happy.”
He shook his head and she opened another folder. “Her most recent boyfriend was Riley Finn, he was in the military and.” She squinted down at the paper. “Was involved in a project called the Initiative, something involving demons, it failed and Mr. Finn recently was called off to do some other government business.”
She smirked as she took out another folder. “She is definitely interesting. But I have to ask, is there anything we are specifically looking for?”
“Weakness.” A voice said from behind and Lindsay turned to see Lucifer.
Lucifer smiled at Lilah before she could say anything. “Ms. Morgan, how nice to see that you are helping. Intriguing isn’t this?”
Lilah smiled. “Yes, it is.”
“Now, can you do me a favor and go the prophecies section? I would like to take a look at the prophecies concerning the slayer.”
“Yes, Sir.” She said and hurried off in that direction.
Lucifer winked at Lindsay as they watched her leave. “I am aware that she didn’t come up with this Mr. McDonald. Trust me, I am more than happy to ignore her, but if she helps with this, that might be worthy of some kind of promotion.”
Lindsay smiled and picked up some folders to look through.
