*****Epilogue*****
Pierce had watched the two sisters bury their brother’s ashes, and after they left he approached the gravesite to pay his respects to an old friend.
He was trying not to cry…it wasn’t manly to cry, especially if you had a tough biker image to uphold. Screw the image. He thought, and began to cry quietly. He stayed there for a few hours, not noticing the time pass as he grieved.
He felt someone’s hand on his shoulder and turned round. What he saw was almost a mirror image of himself. The pale, tear streaked face of a guilty vampire. It was Quill.
‘I’m sorry…’ She sobbed and fell against him. She was crying loudly and uncontrollably as he hugged her tightly.
‘It’s okay.’ He soothed, trying not to cry anymore. ‘There was nothing you could do…it was my fault.’
‘No…I could’ve done something…I could’ve helped, but I didn’t…I could’ve stood up to Blade the way you did…maybe he’d still be alive…’
Pierce took hold of her by the shoulders and shook her, trying to make her see sense. ‘For God’s sake! It wasn’t your fault! It wasn’t anybody’s fault! Blade killed him!’
Quill pulled away from him. ‘You’re wrong! It was my fault! I could’ve helped you, but I didn’t…I should be dead too!’ She started walking away from him. He could see she was hysterical.
‘Quill!’
‘I just want to die too!’ She cried. She ran out of the cemetery in hysterics, sobbing and shaking violently, she couldn’t see where she was going through her tears.
‘Quill! Come back!’ Pierce gave chase of her; he was planning to calm her down. But as she reached the end of the street he sensed that the sun would soon come up.
He called to her a few more times, warning her of the sun, but she wasn’t listening anymore…she was too emotional. He could only hope she saw sense, then jumped onto his bike and rode towards Esme and Eve’s apartment.
Quill watched him leave from a distance through her tears, and then ventured back to the cemetery. She went back to Eli’s grave. She had made up her mind what to do; she was going to kill herself. She was going to wait for the sun to come up and turn to dust.
As she waited she paced, muttering to herself. She was already hysterical, but now she was working herself into a fury. An angry fury aimed at Blade, at Pierce, at Eli…but mainly at herself.
/I see the sun begin to rise/and I'm blinded too/I've seen the world through jaded eyes that I'm crying through/I've watched the darkness hypnotize/and confided/
As the first rays of sunlight touched the grass of the cemetery Quill had broken down into louder sobs, but they were dry sobs, she had no tears left.
She had stopped pacing and now stood still, staring Eastwards at the sun. She was still mumbling madly…she was too far gone to worry what she was saying.
/Hold on I'm falling/can't breathe anymore/an ocean has opened/these scars need to heal over/
Suddenly the sun appeared and its rays caught her skin. She screamed in pain as it burnt, but refused to move or hide from it. She stretched out her arms and lifted her head high, willing herself to burn…and burn she did.
/Caress the needle prick in my skin/the tears fell like rain/I've rode the Phoenix as she glides/and I've gone insane/I've seen the light of suicide/and I'm dying/
The pain was intense, but she stayed motionless. She was ablaze…yellow, red, orange and finally white. She shone momentarily with pure white fire and then exploded softly. Her ashes floated gently down onto Eli’s grave like black snow.
/I've watched the darkness hypnotize/and confided/
A soft wind blew over the cemetery and dispersed her ashes all over Sunnydale.
/Hold on I'm falling can't/Breathe anymore/
Pierce stared through the window of Esme and Eve’s apartment and watched the devastation manifest itself. He covered himself in a long blanket to block out the sun and failed to notice a light dust on the breeze.
/An ocean has opened/these scars need to heal over/Hold on I'm falling can't breathe/breathe/Colder and colder/Just hold on to me/
