A Promise: 2

by Spikes Queen

Spike came in the back door and leaned against it.

Dawn came in from the living room. “Spike?” He looked up at her with pain filled eyes. “You okay?”

“Yeah, I’m fine,” he said.

Dawn went over and touched his cheek. “What did she do? I can see it in your eyes,” she said, softly.

“Same old thing. Just thought it would be different,” he said, sighing.

The front door and Buffy’s voice came through the house. “Spike?”

Dawn went over to her. “You’re a dumbass,” she said.

“Language, Nibblet,” Spike said, coming out of the kitchen.

Angel stood behind Buffy looking back and forth between the two blondes. “Buffy, what’s going on?”

Buffy put the scythe on the table and looked at Spike. “Spike, you have to..”

“No, Buffy,” Spike said, going out the back door.

Buffy stomped after him. “You stupid, dopey vampire. Would you just listen to me please?” She cried.

Spike turned around to face her. “Why so you can reject me again? No thanks, Buffy. We did this already. I thought I was different. I thought last night meant something to you, but I was a jerk to think that,” he said.

Buffy frowned and sniffled. “Spike,” she whispered.

Spike paused as tears ran down his face. “What?”

Buffy went toward him and ran her hands over his back. “I’m sorry. I didn’t realize what was happening and when I did I pushed him away. Things are different, and last night meant more to me then you’ll ever know,” she said, leaning her forehead against his back.

Spike sighed. “Buffy, we’ve already done this,” he said, turning around and gently pushing her away. “I can’t keep giving myself to you only to have you push me away. Last year, I wouldn’t have said anything, but I’m not the same person anymore. I really don’t care if you hate me, but at least its better then what happened last year,” he said, tears sliding out of the sides of his eyes.

Angel was standing on the back porch but neither seemed to notice him. He crossed his arms and tried to understand the insanity in front of him.

“Spike, just stop and listen to me for a second,” Buffy said, softly.

“Buffy, I really don’t wanna hear you tell me you don’t love me or that last night was a mistake. Or more importantly, I don’t wanna hear you tell me that I’m not good enough for you because I’m not Peaches. I already know I’m not Angel. I didn’t leave you. I didn’t abandon you. I know I hurt in the worst possible way but I didn’t run from it. I came back. I wanted to see you one last time because I though you would kill me.

“I thought we fixed it. Well sorta. But I thought things were different between us but you still want me to be Angel. And I’m sorry but I cant be what you want,” he said, wiping his wet face and forcing himself not to react to her tears.

Buffy sniffled and went over to him. She pulled his head down to hers, but just made him rest his forehead on hers. “I am sorry, and I wasn’t gunna tell you any of that stuff. I was gunna tell you that you are one of the most decent men on the planet. Not a lot of people come close to the kind of man you are. No one knows me as well as you and no one can take care of me like you can. No one had done anything like what you did and certainly not for me. Last night was one of the best nights in my life and I’m not gunna throw away what we have. It was an accident and I just want you to tell me that you love me and that everything is okay,” she whispered, looking into his eyes.

Spike frowned but put his arms around her. “You know I love you. I’ll never stop. You cant keep pushing me away and pulling me back. You want things to be okay, then be honest with me,” he said, softly.

Buffy nodded. “I’m just scared,” she said.

“Of what?” Spike asked.

“Of losing you. Lost you twice and let you go once. It’s too much for me. I didn’t want you to leave me that’s why I didn’t let you in. Didn’t help, you still worked you way into my hear, and I want you to stay there,” she said, kissing him softly.

Spike kissed her tenderly as a familiar sparks began to ignite. He licked her lips seeking entrance, and tentatively his tongue met hers.

Angel watched as Buffy pushed herself up against Spike. She never kissed him like that and she certainly wasn’t going to be kissing Spike like or at all.

Buffy’s arms were locked around his neck and she was kissing him with everything she had. She reluctantly pulled away to breathe but leaned in his embrace and she panted heavily.

“That was quite lovely,” Angel said, from the porch.

Buffy frowned and turned in Spike’s arms. “Not, now Angel.” she said, leaning against Spike.

“Um… Buffy? You’re kissing Spike. What’s he doing here anyways?” Angel growled.

“He lives here and he’s a part of my life in unspeakable ways. No matter what anyone says, I’m staying true to my word this time,” she said.

“’This time’?” Angel asked, going over toward them.

Spike tightened his arms around her as Angel came closer.

“Yeah. I’ve never been honest in a relationship,” she said. “And they always ended because of that. But its different now and no one is going to ruin that. Not you or my friends.”

“Buffy, you have totally lost your mind,” Angel said.

“No I have not. Stop trying to make decisions for me,” she growled.

Dawn came out on the back porch. “Buffy, you’re being kinda loud, wanna tone it down?”

Buffy looked over at her sister. “Sorry, Dawnie,” she said.

Dawn smiled. “I’m going to bed. Spike wanna tuck me in?” She asked.

Spike looked down at Buffy then at Dawn. “Sure,” he said, following her with a smile.

Buffy watched with a smiled as they went inside.

Angel looked at her. “Now that he’s gone, will you please talk to me?”

Buffy sighed. “What do you wanna know?”

“Why are you kissing Spike?” Angel asked.

“Because, he needs to understand where he and I stand. He needs to know that I care for him,” she said, softly. “And I felt like it.:

“Since when?” Angel asked.

“Since I’ve been able to trust him,“ Buffy said.

“The Spike I know is very trust worthy,” Angel mumbled.

“He’s not the same guy you knew. He’s more then a friend to me,” Buffy said, softly.

“So you love him?” Angel asked.

“Um… I’m not sure. We’re not lovers anymore, but we trust each other and we’re there for each other. Spike and I aren’t friends. I don’t know you’d call us,” she said, walking away him.

“So that’s why you pushed me away,” Angel growled. “So you would hurt Spike’s feelings?”

“Yes,” Buffy said, looking at him. “I’ve hurt him enough.”
